First day of School Part II

I turn around and look who was calling me.

“Hello there” said a guy with short black hair that was sitting behind me.

“H-hi” I'm surprised. It is the first person of my age and gender that I have talked to in a long time.

“Do you know those girls over there?” he asked me.

“Who?”.

“That one's over there” he said, pointing at Yuki and Lucy.

They are looking at me and murmuring to each other, like the typical duo of old ladies whispering rumors in the neighborhood. They are obviously talking about me. And I have a feeling it is nothing good.

“Well... I kind of know them, yeah”.

“What did you do to them?”.

“Why do you ask?”.

“Well, they are obviously talking trash about you, so something must have happened”.

“Yeah, something may have happened”.

"Hmm…" he looks at me.

"What?".

"Are you going to tell me what you did?".

"Why should I?".

"Because I'm going to assume the worst and start telling everybody about it, spreading a rumor that would destroy your high school career".

"Gugh-" This guy…

With no other option, I tell him a quick summary of how I met them and why I think they are acting that way.

“So, in summary. You think they hate you?”

“I wouldn't say 'hate' but they definitely have a bad impression of me” I said while looking at the girls again. They are still whispering and talking to each other.

“Don't think about that man. If I were in their position, I'd think that you are a stupid, weird, cringe, pervert and useless human being. But I wouldn't hate you” he said with a smirk.

“Is that supposed to make me feel better?”.

“Hahaha, cheer up man, cheer up” he laughed while giving me little pushes in the back.

We talked a bit more and I learned that his name is Javier Ortiz, a freshman coming from California.

He seems like an honest and nice person, but I don't know if I want to be his friend. He seems like that type of person that would never stop talking even if you tell them to stop, and that can distract me from studies just like he did in this class. Well, I also let myself go with it and keep talking to him.

As the class ended, I got out of the class and Javier followed me.

“Hey Chris. What class do you have next?” he asked me, while walking next to me.

“History”.

"Me too! In which room though?".

"2352.".

“Ough man, mine is in room 2348”.

“That’s unfortunate,” I said, trying to show sadness about it. But I am actually relieved. If we aren't in the same class, he will definitely distract me.

While we were walking to the History Hall, again, I started to feel that pressure in my neck, and I instantly knew they were behind me, but I didn’t want to look. I was just crossing my fingers and wishing we didn’t have the same class.

“I don’t know why, but I feel a pressure on my neck,” said Javier while rubbing his neck.

“R- really? Why would that be? Maybe you slept in a bad position or something, ha ha” I said trying to make Javier not to look behind. And at that moment Javier turned around, seeing Yuki and Lucy.

“Chris, Chris” he said, tilting his head, whispering to me while pushing me with his elbow.

“W-what?” I asked, trying to look like I didn't know what was happening.

“Why are Yuki and Lucy following us? And why is Lucy staring at you with an angry look?”

“I don’t know man; I have no idea. I don’t even know what I did wrong”.

“Well, if I remember correctly, you followed them hiding like a pervert. You keep their keys so they couldn't enter their apartments. And you also make them waste their time for more than two hours trying to teach a moron like you. What will be the thing that you did wrong, I wonder?” He said with his hand at his chin looking at me with the eyebrows up.

"Hey! none of that happened, you're making things up".

"But not the last one…".

“Okay, okay, maybe I didn’t make the best first impression, but to think that Lucy would look at me with such an intense pressure” I said while looking behind me. My eyes met with Lucy’s for a millisecond, and that was enough to see hell within those sky-blue eyes.

“I- I'll go to the bathroom. See you later” I said to Javier while I entered the bathroom. I need to refresh myself a little bit and regroup my thoughts.

After I washed my face and waited in the bathroom a little bit to lose the girls I went outside and headed to my classroom.

When I arrived, it seemed like I was the last one to get there. All seats are already occupied, and guess, between who the only free seat is.

Yuki and Lucy, again. What is going on? Is this some type of divine punishment? We are in the same class for the third time in a row. After what happened in the first period, I don't want to sit between them, at least not in front of Lucy, for my neck’s sake.

The teacher came from behind me and pointed at the seat between Yuki and Luci saying, “You can sit there”.

After he said that, Lucy and Yuki immediately looked at me. Luci's terrifying look gave me goosebumps.

Class ended and after my neck suffered at history class, it was time for lunch. I looked for some place where I could have some peace and study.

Of course, I can't have any peace because just as I was sitting and getting my notebook out, Javier appeared and sat next to me.

“Hello, my friend” he said while putting his lunch at the table.

Friend?! We talked only for 10 minutes, and now, we are friends? I didn't know you just needed a small talk to become friends with someone.

“Oh, hi...” I said, showing maybe a little discomfort for his presence.

“See, you said earlier, before you went to the bathroom, ‘see you later’, so I saw you here, and I thought, now is later, so I came to give you some company” he explained.

“I see".

“So, you don’t want my company? Do you hate me?” he asked with a sad puppy face.

I thought only girls use that type of resource; I was wrong.

I don’t want him to feel bad, I just want to be alone, but I don’t know how to say it without hurting his feelings.

But before I could really think in some proper way to tell him to go, the 'unexpected' occurred. The two souls that seem to be harassing me through the day are coming right straight to me.

“Oh, I see” he said while looking at Yuki and Lucy that were coming right to us “You already have company. Man, you just have to say it. Okay, I'll leave” he said, while getting up.

“Wait!!” I said, grabbing his arm. “You don't have to go; I don’t mind your company at all” I am technically begging him to stay with me.

“Okay, okay, if you beg like that, I have no other choice but to stay, just because it is bad to have two just for you” he sat back.

I don't know why, but I feel safer with Javier here.

Although it's already half the day, I feel like my first day of school is just starting.
