Chapter 6:

Island of Mary

Imagination

I felt like I passed through a heavy shower and then bright light met my eyes. I could feel a cool fresh wind, with a smell of wet leafs and wood, and I felt wet soil and little twigs and rocks under by bare feet.

I opened my eyes, looked around. I was in the middle of a huge forest with trees taller than towers, branches spreading high above us like a roof, and it was wet, like it had rained recently.

The trunks were huge, like an entire room could fit into them. I looked back and the portal we just walked out of was on one such trunk, shaped like a doorway.

“Woah ho ho!” I said, looking around with wide eyes, “So cool!” my heart bursting with excitement. I remembered The Dark Forest from Harry Potter and The Mirkwoods from Hobbit, but this wasn’t a gloomy, giving-off-a-bad-feeling forest like them, though it was fairly dark.

Looking at my childish grin my dad said, “This is the Island of Mary, or you can say, ‘A hotel for the extraordinary’” and laughed softly, “you will love it, believe me!”

I already was.

“Don’t get your hopes too high” snapped the girl coldly and walked away. I realised I hadn’t greeted her so I said, “Uh... Hi?” but she was already gone and I stood there, embarrassed. Dumb introvert moments.

I hadn’t noticed, but she really was beautiful.

May dad said, “Umm... anyways-”

“Hello visitors!” suddenly I heard a voice and looked in its direction, and my eyes shining, after all, it was the first mythical creature I was watching right in front of my eyes.

Little body, size of a pen, female, glittering dress like a skirt, little butterfly wings that were almost transparent and golden sparkles all around them, giving off a happy vibe. They were…

“A fairy!” I said, “You really are a fairy aren’t you?” I was kinda freaking out, “Oh.. oh! Oh my god! I’ve read so much about you, everyone has since childhood day! Can I?” I said, raising my hands, fully aware that it would be creepy (even if a fairy, she was still a girl) but I didn’t care, I had to make sure she was real, “Umm, can I touch you, please?”

She gave a confused smile, flew at me and touched my finger with her palm, she was real (I swear I could have passed out). Then she looked at my dad.

“Umm… He is a new” my dad said.

“Oh! So that is why!” she said, delighted, then looked at me, bowed, which I retuned, and said, “Hello sir! My name is Elixi, and yes, I am a fairy!”

She whistled and as I watched, hundreds of fairies appeared out of branches and from behind the leaves, lighting up the forest, and all of them greeted, “Hello!”

“I heard someone say a new has arrived!” I heard a man’s voice.

Muscular upper body of a human with over-grown chest hair and beard, horns on head, holding bows and arrows, and lower body of horse.

He said, “Hello kid, my name is Vergros and I am a-”

“Ceh… Centaur!” I said. I had forgotten I wasn’t breathing anymore.

It was so overwhelming, so awesome that I couldn’t handle it. They were all the ones I’ve read and watched about all my life, standing in front of me in flesh. I didn’t check if I was dreaming anymore… Even if it was a dream, I didn’t want it to end.

“Enough with the boy!” said a woman, her voice bit younger than mid-age, “He’s a new! It’s already too much for him, let him take a breath!” and I realised my lungs were out of breath and gasped in furiously.

All the other fairies went away, except Elixi.

The woman who said that walked to me. She was wearing a velvet green robe, a huge belt around her waist, her hair completely covered by the large pointed hat she was wearing. She was looking like Professor McGonagall from Harry potter but way younger. And please forgive my words, I’m just saying this for information purpose, but her chest and hips were huge. Tsunade from Naruto in Professor McGonagall’s dress will be perfect, just change the hair-colour to black, add round glasses and a pearl necklace to that.

“She’s definitely a wizard” I thought.

The centaur said, “Madam Givana we-”

“Later Vergros” said she, coming close. She looked at me, smiled and said, patting my shoulder, “Go get some rest”

“O…Ok” I said, and before I realised I didn’t thank her said a say thank you, she said to the fairy, “Lead him to his room” and went with the centaur, discussing something.

“Come with me sir!” said the fairy, leading the way as I followed.

She led me to another tree, and a door appeared in front of it.

“Get in” she said, as bright as ever.

I opened the door and got in, and guess what? I was standing at the entrance of my own house.

For a moment I thought it was actually my own house. I ran in and around, searching for my mom aswell, but soon realised it was just a good replica, because outside every window the forest was visible.

Elixi flew around the house with me.

“Madam Givana said the more accurate the room is to your own, the more comfortable it will be” she said.

“Umm… I…” I started.

“What’s it sir?”

“Is the madam… um, madam Givana, is she a wizard?”

The fairy looked surprised. “Yes she is! How did you know?”

I smiled rubbing the back of my neck (yes, I was red), “It just… um… looked like that you know. The p-pointed hat and all”

“Yeah she does look like a typical wizard from those movies” she said, then realised something and instantly said, “Please don’t tell that to her”

“No I won’t” I said with a smile. I reached my bedroom (It took me some time to figure out if I should say it was my room or not while writing this, because it looked like my but I knew it wasn’t really mine). I found my phone on the bed.

“Is it uhh… umm”

“Yes, it’s also a replication of your phone sir” said the fairy, as I scrolled through it. Everything was as it is, the photos, Subway Surfers (it might sound weird but I don’t play mobile games very much, not at all basically except for subway surfers once in a blue-moon when my net is over), but the call icon was gone.

“Everything is as it is except that you can’t call or message anyone of the normal world, not without Madam Givana’s permission, because-”

“I know I know” I said smiling, “it’s obvious, you won’t want me to go telling about this place”

“Really sorry about that!” the fair said loudly.

I laughed. “It’s alright!” I said, “I wouldn’t have said even if I could”

I knew the basic principle of fantasy worlds, ‘no revealing about it to normal public’. After all I was in one now, apparently.

The fairy smiled.

“Anyways” she said, “Soon the b-”

“By the way” I accidentally interuspted, but then instantly added, “Oh sorry, you were saying something?”

“Oh no sir!” she said, “You go first”

“Umm… uh…” I couldn’t put it words, “I didn’t mean to be personal but umm… I was just wondering…”

“say it sir”

“I… I was wandering” I took a deep breath and said it, “I was wondering if all fairies as females how do you... you know…”

“Have kids?” she said, smiling.

“I’m sorry! I know it’s a silly question! I didn’t mean to…”

“It’s fine!” she said, “Actually it’s a lie that male fairies don’t exist, it’s just that they aren’t very popularly shown in movies and so, from where normal people know about us. Outside you didn’t see them because while female fairies are in charge of greeting newcomer’s and showing them around, male fairies do the inside jobs like keeping track of visitors and other creatures, fileworks, etc.” she explained, flying around the room, ‘If you stay here for long, you’ll see a lot of them too”

“Oh… I was just curious, sorry” I said, a bit embarrassed.

“You can google it, we have free wifi here, even if it’s a jungle” she said, which surprised me a bit. Even mythical people use internet these days?

“Very well!” she said, “Anything else sir?”

“No, thank you”

“Nice. Breakfast will be ready soon, so get yourself fresh by then and take some rest” she said, “And try processing about everything”

“Right”

“Later!” she said and then vanished with a sparkle from her wand.

I gave out a breath, and suddenly felt like all energy left my body. I threw myself on the bed, looking at the ceiling and breathing. My mind was completely blank, but I knew it would start imagining countless possibilities of how things came to this (I still kinda thought it was all a dream) as soon as I let it to.

But one thing was clear, I was happy.

I was smiling from eye to eye, my heart jumping like a kid.

I still had no idea what was going on, and why.

But one thing I was sure of:

I was happy

I was very very very super duper happy!

I couldn’t believe it myself, but my life really had turned into a fantastic tale!

(Then I remembered I hadn't pooped since morning and ran, holding my stomach, straight into the bathroom)
