Chapter 43:

Road Trip!

Watch Over You

The days that followed our visit to the detention center was calming, healing. Misako and I had walked around town, going to parks and watching more films. I had also remembered to buy Yuki her sweets that I promised. Yuki had…somewhat begun to tolerate me, and only beat me into submission a handful of times. Miss Ishihara had left for the weekend; she had told us she was going on a girls’ trip with her friends from the hostess club. She was in dire need of relaxation and time to herself. She was a strong mother, a strong person. It made me reminisce about my own mother, how she was the boulder of the house. It made me want to see her again, though that were going to be impossible. Yuki was on school-break, so we decided to have her join us for the weekend; as Hiroshi and Yuta were going to join us. I was in the front lounge when I heard the doorbell ring. I answered the doorbell, using the intercom:

“Hello?” I asked into the intercom.

“DESTROY ALL ALIENS.” A fake-manly voice said.

‘The troublemakers have arrived; my world is going to be in turmoil.’

“Hello, Yuta.” I replied.

“Mister David of the Martian species, let us in!” Yuta spoke.

“I’m good. I think you can stay outside.”

“Pal! If you don’t let us in, I’m going to make your life miserable!” Hiroshi yelled.

“I’ve prepared myself; I’m not going down easily.” I replied.

“Oh, are you now? Try us!”

Then, I heard the ruffling of feet outside the front door of the house. And a loud ‘THUD!’ scared my socks off. I was armed, I had purchased a water-gun from a store earlier that day. I was ready for war. But the rustling outside dampened, eventually disappearing entirely. I crouched myself behind the couch, readying myself for anything.

“What are you doing, David?” Misako said, appearing behind me.

“I’m hunting demons.” I replied softly.

“Oh, who might these demons be?”

“Hiroshi and Yuta.”

“Oh…”

It sounded to me, as though Misako had made a big mistake.

“What did you do?” I asked her, turning to face her.

“I let them in.” She responded.

Beside Misako, stood a man and a boy, dressed in all-black suits with black sunglasses. Yuta and Hiroshi held their signature gel-guns in each of their hands. And they aimed them at me.

“Target acquired.” Yuta spoke.

“Destroy the alien, before he tries to infiltrate our brains.” Hiroshi stated.

“Misako! You betrayed me!” I screamed, running away.

They sprayed their bullets, and it peppered my in my backside as I ran away. I turned a corner, sprinting down a long hallway.

“I heard an alien has invaded our home.” A voice said.

In the hallway, stood Yuki. She wore the exact same outfit as Yuta and Hiroshi. But she held a kendo-stick in hand.

“NOT YOU TOO!” I screamed.

I was tormented, my clothes were different colors of paint, and torn from Yuki’s painful method of fun. I hid in my room, and flipped my bed over, creating a barricade of cover. The three delinquents took cover outside my room, blindly firing gel bullets into my room, covering it in paint.

“This is unfair! It’s three versus one!” I yelled out.

Life isn’t fair, pal!” Hiroshi yelled back.

“Surrender, Alien!” Yuki and Yuta yelled.

“No! I value my life!”

I could hear a wheelchair move into my room as the firing stopped; I lifted my head out to inspect. Misako was between us.

“Can we get going, guys? I wanna be by the guest house by sundown.” Misako spoke.

“Tell them that!” I yelled.

“They’ve stopped. I’m just waiting on you.” She replied to me.

I stood up, they weren’t firing back, so I assumed she spoke the truth. But she smiled with a menacing look… Misako was smiling at me.

“Why are you smiling?” I asked.

She then pointed a water-gun at me. I’d forgotten that I purchased two of them at the store.

“Sorry… I’ll forever remember you, mister Alien.” She spoke.

“I’m going to curse you for the rest of your life.” I replied.

And she pulled the trigger.
