Chapter 51:

Lady of Darkness

Beyond The Void

Emmett immediately unleashed a barrage of spells upon Fraw, yet she didn’t even budge an inch: Every single one hit her perfectly, yet she shrugged them off as if nothing had even happened.

“Damn it, try this!” Emmett sent another barrage towards her, and once again, she remained unaffected, her shadowy form flickering a bit.

“What the hell?” Maria yelled. “None of Emmett’s magic is affecting her! What are we supposed to do?”

She walked forward but immediately dropped to her knees, Emmett reacted quickly and caught her.

“Are you okay?” He asked.

“Her injuries are too severe.” I said. “Go get her to a safe location, while I distract Frawa.”

“No!” Maria suddenly stood up, struggling to do so. “No…I can do this, I’m fine. I promise. We can’t win without all of us.”

Meanwhile, Frawa stood still, unmoving. For some reason she’d stopped making her way towards me, and was silently observing me, while completely ignoring any attack aimed at her.

“What are you doing?” I asked, to no avail. “Don’t you wanna kill me? Come on!”

My taunts were no use, as she stood still as a statue. I couldn’t figure out why she’d just randomly opted to do that, but we had to take advantage of it.

Just like Emmett, I used a combination of multiple different spells, however, mine were on a far greater level compared to his. Despite that, the result remained identical, she stood motionlessly, acting as if nothing had happened.

“What’s going on?” Emmett asked. “Why’s she decided to turn into a statue, all of a sudden?”

“I…I don’t know.” I admitted. “But we can’t let this opportunity slip! If she decides to stop fooling around and slaughter us, then we’re fucked! She’s already shown she’s basically impervious to all magic, so we might need to find another way!”

“If I could just use my enhancement…”Maria muttered. “But I’m just too weak, right now…”

Suddenly, Frawa jerked her head up, pointed a finger towards the ceiling, and sliced it in half with a black laser beam from the tip of her finger.

“Shit!” Emmett grabbed Maria and carried her out of the room as the ceiling began to collapse on us, and I followed them shortly after.

I went back in once the debris had settled, and found Frawa still standing in the same place. Then, she suddenly started floating up.

“Hey! Where the hell do you think you’re going?” I charged towards her. But she was now floating out of the hole she’d made in the roof.

I enhanced my legs and jumped up, landing on a piece that remained unbroken while she still floated above me, but had stopped going up.

And then, she spoke.

“When you woke up here, the first day….do you remember?” Frawa’s voice was not human. I didn’t know how to describe it, as it was something that couldn’t be told, as I lacked the necessary vocabulary for that-not just me, but probably every human ever.

“Yeah, so what?” I tried to sound tough, but my performance wasn’t convincing at all.

“Do you remember, the strangest thing you noticed while riding that train?” She continued.

“It doesn’t matter, why’d you suddenly decide to become chatty? And why aren’t you attacking me, anyways?”

“It was the sun. You found it extremely strange that the sun rose from the complete opposite direction here than on Earth.”

“Yeah, that’s right.” I recalled. “But so what? It doesn’t have to do with any of this!”

“Allow me to show you why.”

Frawa snapped her fingers, and in an instant, the sun crossed the entire planet and set on the other side of where it had risen from, as if in a time lapse.

“You think I care about a stupid fucking sun? It’s the least of my business?”

“Fool, how do you think humans on Earth function!”

“Shut up!”

I sent a fireball towards her, but naturally she took it head on and didn’t blink.

“The sun on Earth has produced almost all energy you see on it. It dispense energy freely. The Void, however, does the opposite. You already knew it drained emotional energy, but how? It’s simple, the “sun” itself, if you even want to call it that. Perhaps you could even name it the “nus” since it’s functionally the opposite as the sun.”

Of course, it made sense. There were so many people living here, the only way to possibly be able to monitor that would be through an object that envelops the entire planet.

Frawa snapped her fingers once again, and the sun rose once more, stopping right in the center of the sky, as far as my eye could tell.

“Naturally, I can dictate just how much it can drain at once. Allow me to show you.” Frawa held her palm up to the sky a black orb of pure darkness forming in it.

And then, the sun turned completely black.

“What the-”

I heard voices shouting from below, it was probably Emmett and Maria. Frawa probably heard, so she created a dark shield around the entire mansion, locking them inside.

I immediately tried to shatter the shield using both magic and physical enhancement, but naturally, both options failed.

“Enough, it’s no use.” Frawa said. “Instead, why don’t you feast your eyes on this?”

I turned back and looked up at her, and saw that the orb had grown twice as large, then I noticed a flux of energy descending from the sun.

“That’s right, emotions turn into power!” Frawa said, still flaunting the massive orb that slowly got bigger and bigger.

“Is this why you created this world?” I asked. “Because you crave power? You drain emotions from humans because of something as stupid as that?”

“Something as stupid? You utter imbecile, power dictates everything! My will is the strongest, so I decided whether you live or die! Besides, don’t you humans like what I offer?”

“What you offer is to strip us of humanity.”

“No, that is not true. I don’t strip you of anything, you humans decide to let go of the pain. And why wouldn’t you? I simply have agents placed everywhere on Earth, to give a little shove…”

“You’re fucking insane!” I screamed at the top of the lungs, crafting the largest fireball I’d ever made, yet even that did not leave even a scratch on her.

“I’ve saved you all! Why would you keep hold of feelings that only bring you pain or suffering? Even now, why do you resist? You cannot win! It is impossible! Yet, you intentionally make yourself miserable through this pathetic resistance!”

“Y0u’re wrong…I won’t lose!”

As I said those words, I felt a sharp pain in my chest. I looked down and a saw a large blade made out of pure shadows sticking out of it, blood flowing everywhere.
