Chapter 6:

The Phantom Thief and The Heists

Lost Horizon: Phantom Thief in Another World

As intergalactic arts and cultural performances continued to enrapture the audience, Princess Seraphina found herself lost in a whirlwind of emotions.

The breathtaking displays of artistry showcased the diverse beauty of the universe, and yet, amidst the grandeur, a sense of unease lingered within her.

Alfred, ever watchful, noticed the subtle shift in her demeanor. Leaning closer, he whispered, "Is something troubling you, Your Highness?"

A soft smile graced Seraphina's lips at Alfred's attentive concern. "It's just that these performances serve as a reminder of the boundless beauty that exists across galaxies. However, it's also a stark contrast to the conflicts and challenges we face. I yearn for a future where harmony and peace unite all planets and civilizations."

Alfred nodded in empathy. "Your vision resonates deeply with me, Princess. I share your belief that through mutual cooperation and understanding, such a future can be realized."

Meanwhile, L.L. observed that his terminal successfully established an external connection.

"Queen to Rook. Over," Lyla's voice crackled through his earpiece.

A grin played across L.L.'s lips as he responded, "It's good to hear your voice. The evening would be dull without our conversations. Over."

"Why are we engaging in this communication style again?" Lyla inquired.

"Because it's entertaining, and besides, remember what my new therapist, Barry, says—A touch of fun brings positivity to the world," Logan replied, simultaneously attending to the guests.

"I believe your new therapist might be overlooking the nature of your profession, L.L.," Lyla retorted.

"Ever since I started talking to Barry, I've found an unprecedented sense of serenity. No more nightmares, and I've become more accepting of people's flaws. Barry believes it's time for a change, and I think he's right," Logan responded while attending to the dignitaries.

"Barry does not know what you do for a living. By the way, I've gained full control. The party can commence at your signal," Lyla's message indicated that the operation was primed and ready.

"You may proceed. I am ready," Logan confirmed.

"Going dark in three, two, one..." Lyla's voice trailed off.

With a single push of a button, Lyla remotely cut off the power supply to City Hall. In an instant, darkness enveloped the surrounding buildings.

Their conversation was momentarily suspended, allowing Logan to focus entirely on executing his plan.

Back inside City Hall, Alfred, anticipating the blackout, swiftly took charge.

"Don't panic! Activate the portable power generator immediately! Move!" Alfred directed urgently.

His team members reacted swiftly, rushing to the location of the portable generator. "Yes, Sir!"

Moments later, fireworks illuminated the night sky outside, casting intermittent glimmers of light that filtered through the large windows of City Hall.

In the midst of the spectacle, a card materialized from thin air and affixed itself to the carpeted stage, causing a collective gasp among the audience.

The card bore the unmistakable insignia of the elusive Phantom Thief L.L.

A sense of tension filled the room as all eyes remained fixed on the stage.

In a calculated sequence, a servant began moving towards the stage, clutching what appeared to be a firearm. Panache's instincts went on high alert, poised to intervene if necessary.

"He has a gun," Panache whispered to Alfred, his voice edged with concern.

Fixated on the servant, Alfred issued a stern command, his voice unwavering, "Drop your weapon."

Despite the gravity of the situation, the servant hesitated, unwilling to relinquish his hold on the pistol.

Alfred's patience wore thin, and he repeated his directive, commanding, "Didn't you hear me? Drop your gun!"

Reluctantly, the servant began raising his hands, yet his grip on the firearm remained resolute.

In a sudden and unexpected twist, the servant fired the gun, but instead of bullets, a rope with an anchor shot forth, embedding itself firmly in the ceiling above. With swift precision, he utilized the makeshift rope to ascend and reveal his true identity as none other than L.L.

Garbed in a sleek black suit accented by white folds and glistening gold embellishments, L.L. exuded an air of charismatic sophistication. His blonde hair and glasses framed his enigmatic countenance.

Gaining the necessary elevation, L.L. skillfully detached the propeller from his back, propelling himself toward the stage with calculated grace.

In a seamless motion, he caught hold of Princess Seraphina and swung her upwards, evading her captors and propelling them toward the rooftop.

Panache, ever the vigilant guardian, made a swift move to pursue L.L., only to be momentarily thwarted as smoke bombs engulfed the area, shrouding the surroundings in a thick veil of obscurity.

"Hold your fire! He's using Princess Seraphina as a shield," Alfred commanded, his voice authoritative as he prioritized the safety of the princess.

The bodyguards held their positions, weapons trained on the dense smoke, unable to ascertain their target or initiate an offensive maneuver.

Taking advantage of the diversion, L.L. skillfully navigated the chaos, veering toward his objective with calculated precision.

Princess Seraphina displayed remarkable composure despite the pandemonium, engaging L.L. in a verbal exchange. "Are you planning to abduct me?" she inquired, her tone unwavering.

L.L. responded with a confident chuckle, his tone dripping with intrigue, "No, Your Highness. My sole desire is to possess the resplendent gem gracing your neckline."

Unperturbed, Princess Seraphina asserted, "You have gravely miscalculated. This gem holds profound significance within the Lunar Galactic Empire, not merely as a symbol but also for the potential miracles it embodies."

L.L. appeared momentarily taken aback by her unyielding stance, yet he swiftly regrouped. "Ah, but you see, Your Highness, my appreciation for beauty is boundless. I find allure in this gem, and my artistic nature compels me to claim it," he explained, a beguiling smile playing upon his lips.

"That's the wrong answer," Seraphina retorted, trying to use her training in martial arts to restrain L.L.

Having received combat training as part of her duties as a royal princess, Seraphina was no ordinary damsel in distress.

She regularly practiced martial arts with Panache, the royal guard leader of the Rose Order of the Knights.

L.L. chuckled and teased, "Hey... hey... it sounds like you want to be kidnapped?"

"That's not the case, Mr. Phantom Thief. Even though I'm curious about you, I won't let you take my possession," Seraphina responded with determination.

"Oh, really? I only steal beautiful things. But if you want, I can steal your heart," L.L. flirted, trying to distract her.

His flattery caused Seraphina to blush for a moment, but it was enough for him to take advantage.

With a swift move, L.L. deployed his glider and sent Seraphina flying, breaking free from her restraint, and snatched the necklace from her in the process.

However, losing his glider in the process, L.L. concealed it again and made his way toward the main building.

As he reached the third floor's east hallway, he was met with police officers surrounding him.

"That outfit... It's L.L.!" the officers exclaimed.

"Freeze!"

"Freeze or we'll shoot!"

Ignoring their warnings, L.L. shot his propeller at the police, tying them up before swiftly escaping.

L.L. continued running towards the main building, but more police officers were waiting for him from various directions, leaving him cornered at a T-junction.

"Freeze!"

"Freeze or we'll shoot!"

With no other escape route, L.L. stood motionless at the junction.

"We've cornered L.L. on the 3rd floor's east hallway!"

"L.L., drop your gun. Now!" Alfred, who had managed to chase him, ordered.

L.L. dropped his pistol onto the floor.

"Good. Now slowly raise your hands and get down on your knees," Alfred commanded, keeping his gun trained on L.L.

Gradually, several police officers approached L.L., but he remained silent and still.

"Didn't you hear me? Put your hands where I can see them," Alfred pressed on.

L.L. raised his hands slowly, but he was still holding something.

However, before Alfred could react, L.L. quickly threw a flash bomb on the ground, creating a blinding light that disoriented everyone.

Panicking and with only L.L. in his line of sight, Alfred fired shots in front of him, shattering the glass and creating an opening for L.L. to escape.

"Damn you, L.L.! He got away," Alfred cursed as he watched L.L. disappear into the illuminated cityscape.
