Chapter 0:

A Fateful Morning

The Journey of the Little Black Fish

In a small town called Evergreen, there lived a young man named Alex. He was no different from any other person you would find in the crowd – average looks, a mundane job, and a series of failures that had left him disheartened. One evening, after a particularly rough day, he drowned his sorrows in alcohol.

As he drifted into a deep slumber, something extraordinary happened. Alex found himself waking up in a whole new world, but there was a twist - he had transformed into a tiny black fish named Fin. Confused and astonished, Fin found himself in a beautiful isekai world, surrounded by colorful aquatic life and breathtaking landscapes.

Despite his diminutive size, Fin possessed a curious and inquisitive mind. Unlike the other fish, he couldn't help but wonder about the world beyond their small pond. What lay beyond the edge of the horizon? What secrets did the vast ocean hold? These questions echoed in his thoughts, compelling him to seek answers.

Driven by determination, Fin swam to the edge of the pond, where the gentle flow of the river awaited him. With each passing current, he ventured further away from home, meeting various creatures along the way, each with its own tale to tell. From the wise old turtle to the mischievous river otters, Fin's journey was filled with new encounters and experiences.

The river was both beautiful and dangerous. It enchanted Fin with its mesmerizing waterfalls, mysterious caves, and hidden treasures. However, it was also teeming with unseen perils. Predators lurked in the shadows, and unexpected challenges tested his courage at every turn. But Fin pressed on, knowing that his quest for knowledge outweighed the risks.

As Fin ventured deeper into the river, he marveled at the wonders that lay before him. Sunlight filtered through the water's surface, creating an ethereal dance of light and shadow on the riverbed. Swirling schools of fish moved in harmony, and vibrant corals adorned the rocks, adding a splash of color to the aquatic tapestry.

But amidst this beauty, danger lurked. Fin had heard tales of the ominous Water Serpent, a fearsome creature said to dwell in the heart of the river. As he swam cautiously, the whispers of caution from his fellow fish echoed in his ears. "Beware, young one. The Water Serpent is not to be trifled with."

Undeterred, Fin pressed on, his curiosity overshadowing his fear. He encountered schools of playful fish and wise river sages, each with their own stories to tell. One day, he met an old and weathered catfish named Kuro, who had seen many seasons come and go.

"Ah, I see the curiosity in your eyes, little one," Kuro said, his whiskers twitching with amusement. "You're not like the others. Most fish here are content with their simple lives, but you seek something more."

"I do," Fin replied earnestly. "I want to know what lies beyond the river. I want to explore the vast ocean and discover its secrets."

Kuro smiled sagely. "The ocean is a vast and unpredictable place, young Fin. It's filled with wonders and dangers alike. But if your heart yearns for adventure, I won't hold you back. Just remember, the journey may not be easy, but it will be worth it."

With newfound resolve, Fin bid farewell to Kuro and continued his journey. Along the way, he encountered fierce currents and treacherous whirlpools, but each challenge he faced only fueled his determination. He knew that the answers to his questions lay ahead, and he couldn't afford to turn back now.

As days turned into weeks, Fin's tiny body grew stronger, and his once timid nature gave way to bravery. The river, which was once his entire world, now seemed like a mere fraction of the grand tapestry that awaited him. He dreamt of the vastness of the ocean and the freedom it represented.

One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Fin stumbled upon a group of river otters playing by the water's edge. Their playful antics brought a smile to his face, and for a moment, he forgot the weight of his journey. Intrigued by the tiny fish, one of the otters approached him.

"Hey there, little fish! What brings you all the way out here?" the otter asked.

"I'm on a journey to the ocean," Fin replied proudly. "I want to see what lies beyond the river and explore the world beyond."

The otter laughed heartily, patting Fin on the back with a wet paw. "You've got guts, kid! The ocean is a vast and wondrous place, but it's no place for a little fish like you."

But Fin was not discouraged. "I may be small, but I'm determined to make it there. I've come this far, and I won't give up now."

The otter regarded him with newfound respect. "Well then, little adventurer, I wish you the best of luck. May your journey be filled with excitement and discovery."

With renewed determination, Fin swam away from the river otters, knowing that the real challenges were still ahead of him. But he was not alone, for his encounter with the otter had taught him that even in this vast world, there were those who would offer encouragement and support.

As the moon rose in the night sky, Fin felt a surge of hope within him. He knew that his quest was far from over, but he was ready to face whatever came his way. The ocean beckoned, and Fin was prepared to answer its call.
