Chapter 3:

Our Home//Contract (July 28th)

32 Reasons To Live

Our home. The first time Rie came to our home was the night I met her. For context I lived alone. I lived alone because I needed alone time for my studies, or at least that's what I told my parents. The real reason, well, I just wanted to live alone is all.

"So why a bridge", I asked Rie looking into her eyes. She had decided not to kill herself today and I let her in we now sit across from eachother at my table.

     "E-Exuse me?", she said confused.

"Why a bridge", I asked again. "You could've overdosed, used a knife, a rope, so many ways. So why a bridge?"

"I uh don't know, I just um saw it I guess", she said.

We made eye contact. I observed her appearance thoroughly as I do to all.

Brown eyes. Black hair. Looks average. Small nose. Skinny neck. Skinny, little body fat. Wears long sleeved sweater. Black pants. Shoes blue with yellow stripes.

"D-do you think about .. killing yourself... ever", she asked quietly. She flinched when she mentioned the act of suicide.

"No, I do not", I said seriously observing her expression.

"W-why did you want to talk to me", she asked. It was a practical question, after all I a stranger asked her to speak over dinner and gave her my address right after meeting her.

"Your interesting. I have an intrest in other people, the kind others find creepy once they know about it", I say being one hundred percent honest.

"Then why'd you just tell me", she asked  curiously.

"I don't know", I said. It was a lie. I told her because the dead can't share secrets.

    "Oh", she said.

"I don't want to die", she said. I looked at her curiously. "I don't want to die. I don't want to hurt myself, I don't want to hurt anyone. It's just when- sometimes, when I do wanna die, it's like my mind acts on its own."

"Interesting.... Do you care if I write this down?", I asked.

   "Uhmmm", she said.

"I won't show anyone, I swear. I just like to keep a book of interesting experiences... one second", I say. I walk to my room and grab a large notebook and pen.

"This is my book" I say setting it on the table, "open it if you want".

She opened it. I watched intently. She read it. My notes were all about my studies on people. There were notes about famous people, regular people, rare people, and others of that nature.

"So are you like a psychopath or something?", she asked.

"No, I had myself tested", I say. Looking back I think this statement is quite funny.

"I just record things and learn about human behavior."

    "I see", she said.

"There was a patient, if you look there", I say pointing towards the book, "he let me interview and record him, I payed for his chemo therapy until he unfortunately passed on"

"Oh, so you'd keep someone alive just to speak with them?", she said. She seemed intrigued.

"Yeah, I guess.", I responded casually.

"Then I-I'd like to make a deal... if you want", Rie said looking into my eyes.

"What kind of deal?", I asked. I looked into her brown eyes.

"A sort of contract almost", she said breaking eye contact to look at my book. "You help me live and I... I'll l-let you interview me all the time."

   "Deal", I said without thinking.

And that's how it started. That was the start of my relationship with Ishimoto Rie. At the time I didn't realize that this was a bad decision.
