Chapter 9:
A Boy Showed Up At My Door (Unexpectedly) On a Summer Morning?
I stared out my window. I had never looked out my window before. It had never mattered to me. I looked out on my neighborhood; many houses were comprised in the area. All varying architectural styles, some newer, some older. My house was on the older side. Where did he live? Was it a house far beyond mine? Surely it was. Who was he? I had never harbored any curiosity towards him, perhaps I do now. Who was he really? It began to rain, droplets of water fell fast from the sky, the noise their collision with earth's objects produced was offensively loud. I sat staring from the comfort of my room. When had I last gone outside? I could find no value in the outdoors, but perhaps now... It was still early morning; the sun had barely risen. I looked to the side, towards my bed. There lay the boy, still deep in sleep. I had removed myself from my bed only a few minutes prior, I had yet to wash my face of last night's embarrassment. Perhaps it was simple laze, my boredom kept me from productivity. But what was productivity of my own? What had I ever accomplished with it? I was still unsure.
I began to exit my room.
I made way down the stairs.
I stood before my door.
Myself prior would’ve hated the sight. Now I am thankful for the purpose it’s provided.
I opened the door.
The intensity of noise grew, breaking the barrier of inside and out.
I stepped outside.
Rain failed to hit me as I was sheltered by an awning of sorts (positioned above my door).
I stepped toward the steps.
I stepped down a step.
I stepped down another step.
And another step (There are 3 steps).
Rain hit my skin. I felt an abnormal sense of peace. I was calm. I felt little. I stood still in the rain. Letting it beat me in infinite content. I would’ve stayed that way; I wouldn’t have any sense to move without the noise I heard behind me. I hesitated. Perhaps I was scared? It was quite an oddity to willing remain in the rain.
I turned. (slowly)
I faced him.
He faced me.
“I uh...”
“…what are you doing?” He interrupted.
Before I could muster any courage to respond he began the walk towards me.
He descended the steps and stood before me.
He held out both of his hands. I took them without hesitation. Unsure of what intentions he held. Looking up at me, a smile began to form on his face. He pulled us out further onto the walkway before my house, with the rain still pouring, he began turning us in circles, I struggled to hold on. My footing was unstable due to the slippery state of ground we stood on. I strengthened my grip on his fingers as they interlocked with my own... we continued spinning.
“Why... why are we doing this?” I yelled over the rain
“We have nothing else to do!” He said with a smile.
Myself of prior would’ve objected, my mind could be occupied by greater feats. But perhaps... perhaps this joy, perhaps it mattered! Perhaps it’ll better myself!
With a smile, I pulled him closer to me. He was surprised by my sudden movement, I looked him straight in the eyes and with all my strength spun him as he once done to me.
My footing lacked in strength, and I fell. Pulling him along with me.
I was happy.
