Chapter 4:

Dosumn 201

MMA: Medical Madness at the Arena

“They are there! Took the left!” screamed one of the men trailing them. Like every time they took a turn, they waited for him. Chiyo lunged at him, stabbing his leg, while Samuel hit him across the face with his half of the javelin. They continued to run.

“Where now, Chiyo! We are running out of-” he got interrupted by her.

“Lady Shoda!” as she glanced back, four more of the men turned the corner and went after them. Chiyo threw her weapon and a purple aura surrounded it. As it impacted in the ground near them, it sent a small shockwave that launched them against the walls and the ceiling. “There! Opening crea-” Six more took the corner, right as Chiyo was about to turn around. “Sigh. Nevermind.”

“Good fucking job, we are one weapon down!” he reprimanded her, but the javelin tip flew back to her hand. The shit eating grin she gave almost made him hit her. Almost. What stopped him wasn’t that she was a woman, but seeing something out of the corner of his eye stopped him.

“Look out!” He pushed her out of the way of an incoming projectile, a knife. Instead it got buried into his arm. He reacted with a loud “fuck” followed by a “you”.

They took a left turn and saw more purple ties at the end of the corridor, about three. They shouted and pointed at them. “Fuck, let’s go right then.”

When he peaked around the corner, a knife flew past his head, “God- Chiyo─”

“Lady Shoda!” She screamed, pulling him from the back of the neck of his shirt, almost making him trip.

“Just do the thing you did!” He screamed as well, turning around to run by her side, going towards the three purple ties.

“I can’t! It’s a one time deal.” She replied after a short sigh. Either way, the men had gotten too close to comfort and they had big mean swords and bats. Samuel, however, didn’t want to give up so easily.

After rolling his eyes, he accelerated and ran in front of her. At the last second, before one of them could take a swing, he jumped against the wall and pushed himself on it. He came crashing down on the biggest. THONK, was the sound the impact did. His head bounced in place and he fell backwards.

The one next to the big boy lifted up his sword and was going to take advantage of his vulnerability to attack. When it was coming down towards his face, Chiyo’s weapon landed on his forearm. Samuel jumped to his feet and pushed him against the last one with a kick. Before they started running again, he picked up the big guy’s bat and Chiyo picked up the sword.

“We actually make a good team, eh?” He felt confident that they could escape that shitty situation. So far they had evaded many armed men. Hell, he had a knife sticking out of his shoulder and felt fantastic. Seeing her indifferent gaze towards him undid all of it.

“Shut up and focus. More in coming,” and as she said that, three more appeared, turning a corner.

“More? How many there are, Jesus,” like before, he rushed forward with Chiyo staying back. One of the ties did the same, screaming at the top of his lungs. She carried a hammer and when she was close enough, she swung sideways at Samuel. In turn, he slid on his knees to her right leg and swung his bat to her legs.

Crack. Her knees gave up, she screamed falling forwards and clutching her legs. Like before, he was left vulnerable for an attack but he didn’t need Chiyo’s help. As the second grunt tried to cleave off his head, Samuel jumped above the swing and hit his head as he fell. The last one tried to stab him, only to get his arm chopped off by Chiyo.

He smirked at her, pointing at the mess they made with an, “I told you so,” to which she only huffed. They continued forward.

After taking a few turns, they had lost the six following them. Everywhere they passed, people rushed inside their apartments and closed the doors. Samuel took the breather to take a doubt out of his mind, “Anyways, why are they chasing us so- fiercely? What did you do to them?”

“I guess you deserve an answer,” after a second of silence, “but not right now. We need to keep going.” Her face soured. Not like usual, not her pissy self. She was serious. She had been for the time they had been running.

“Eyes up. The stairs are ahead,” as soon as she said that, he rushed forward like before.

“I’ll check it out, see if there are any ties in front,” was his excuse.

“Wait! You idiot, watch-” just as she said that he noticed he had fucked up, “out!”

He slammed into an iron bar that was mysteriously floating in the hallway. The air was pushed out of his lungs and his back twisted in a way that made his bones crack funny. When his vision unblurred, he noticed it wasn’t an iron bar but a big, meaty arm.

“Quick on ye feet like always eh, Chiyo? But ye still too stupid. Summonin’? In my turf? What wer’ ye thinkin’?” The voice came from a big, tall man. Wide and with depth. He looked like a dwarf from fantasy movies, but he was around his height. His voice was deep, rough; like a chain smoker after their thirtieth cigarette. Times ten.

Samuel looked around, clutching his ribs. They were surrounded by all sides. When he tried to stand up, the man stepped over his chest, making his back feel even worse.

“Thrricco, you look uglier. I thought that you would be distracted by the games.” Samuel looked at her, angry and indifferent as always. But her hands were shaking, the sword on them finally fell to the ground. “Someone told you, who?”

“Boss! Your plan worked!” Said one of the men that had been following, hyperventilating after he stopped running. They quickly took the place behind Chiyo, stopping her from leaving.

“Shut it! O’course it worked, no need to point the obvious ye idiot!” Thrricco snapped at the man and he hid behind his fellow grunts. He then cleared his throat, spitting a disgusting looking thing next to Samuel’s head and then he looked back at Chiyo.

“Non’ ye business, lass. Now, what should I do with this one, ei? Ah, its tiresome playing this game with ye. I’ll just kill’im,” from inside his coat, the man pulled out a gun and pointed at his head.

Really!?
