Chapter 13:

3.2 -Magic test: Night three

Daydream

The third night arrived,

and I fuzzled into the great hall. Silica, the class rep was already there. I greeted them and sat at the next table, waiting for Kendra. In the meantime, I pulled out the wand and started practicing, as I always did.

Haruka approached me and asked, "Hey, Mackenzie, is that magic you're drawing?

“Yeah, it's the first step in learning magic. You channel mana through this wand and try to form circles that cast spells. Want to give it a try?" I offered, handing her the wand. She held the wand and pointed it up. "Not everyone can use magic; it's based on luck to have magic or not. It can take a bit of practice to get used to drawing," I explained, recalling what Sensei Grignard and Silica had taught me about magic. It was rare for people to use magic. She was eager to pick up the wand and made it glow in 30 minutes. although it was faint and weak. It still glowed.

"Wow, you have serious skills," Silica commented from the next table over. "You could be a natural mage with those abilities. Haruka continued practicing with the wand, and I grew even more bored since my wand was being used. Then, a thought struck me Silica doesn't need a wand to practice magic. I extended my pointer finger and channeled mana through it, just as I did with my wand. And just like that, I could draw magic without the wand. It was more challenging to flow the mana directly, but it gave me greater control.

"Hi, senpai, how are you?" Tina greeted me.

"Good, good. I was just showing Haruka how to use the wand. By the way, what kind of magic can you use?"

"Wow, that's awesome! Magic is so fun to use. I'm a shrine maiden, can't you tell from my outfit? Healing and water magic is my specialty.”

"Healing magic? What kind of element is that?"

"Healing magic falls under the specialty category, which includes non-offensive magic,".

"That's cool. Want to play a game?" I suggested, pointing my finger to create a tic-tac-toe board in front of us. “Game? What kind?" as her curiosity spark across her face, taking the middle square. We must have played over ten games, and all of them ended in draws. Then Kendra finally arrived. She was upset about not winning and wanted a rematch. We had to settle it later tonight.

We headed to the training area, where Kendra joined the swordsman Daichi for 1 on 1 practice of her sword skills before the boys would get there. Silica and I went to the other side to practice fireballs against the targets. "All right, I think you're ready to start training against the dummy now, you can form the diagram faster now, and you're able to form a fireball."

Even on the first night, I was able to cast my first fireball, but it didn’t have any power to it. Now my magic was more stable, and I can infuse more mana. 12 hours for my first fireball spell and nearly 40 hours of almost fully practicing magic has given me practice.

Since I had given my wand to Haruka, I raised my arm and began to cast a fireball. In about five seconds, I created and shot a fireball that hit the left side of the dummy, around 20 yards away.

"Wow, good first shot. If you keep practicing your shooting, I bet you can pass your magic test tomorrow if you can cast it in three seconds," Silica praised. I was still a long way to go. But, It was about time to pack up and take a lunch break when Anna Senpai, Haruka, and Yumi walked in, carrying a bow. "It seems you two also want to become adventurers, I see," I remarked toward them.

"Yes, they recommended becoming adventurers to leave the town due to the high density of monsters outside. So, I became a ranger, and since Haruka was good at magic, she decided to use magic as her path.”

After another long day of training, we reached Silica’s house and ended the day by playing tic-tac-toe and a new game board of Connect Five with Silica as the night was over. The school would be starting in less than an hour.

Playing games quickly raised my mana capability and accelerated my learning with maintaining drawing magic. My spells became stronger before I knew it. much faster, denser, and unwavering.
