Chapter 224:

Heavy

Museworld

All he could do to get his mind off the humiliation was play video games. Today’s was a newer one to him- you could tell as he’d only reached his second level of new game plus, a shortcoming he’d soon correct. Other than maintaining an amusement park empire spanning the whole planet and beyond, being able to sink so much time into these things was his favorite part of being an immortal.

Why… why’d I screw up back there? I haven’t made a mistake like that since the red scare.

As if on queue, he took a dreadful blow in the fast-paced shmup he was clicking away at. He almost slammed his controller to the ground.

Damn it, I really am getting stressed.

Slack-jawed, he turned off the game and leaned back in his chair.

Why won’t I calm down…? Work brain, work. You’ve made plenty of advancements in the industry before… one giant ride and a moon-sized park is nothing!

He felt a shiver up his spine as his ancient personal phone rang. He lifted it and heard the expected voice. He still remembered the last time the Chief of Construction called. Something about that whole conversation felt off to him. Yes, that was the start of it, he thought. Maybe this time will be better, he hoped. Maybe this is the closure I need.

“Safety inspectors came and checked up on The Genesis today.” The same nasally voice of the Chief so politely informed. “Seems mostly good, just one issue they pointed out.”

Kidney sighed. “What is it this time…?”

“They’re just confused as to why it doesn’t seem to weigh anything, sir.”

“It’s the moon… don’t they know that’s how things are there?”

“But even then, this should be one of the heaviest objects ever conceived.”

“It won’t be a problem… let me brood.”

“…Yes sir.”

After hanging up, Kidney looked up at the fat mark he’d stapled onto the moon.

“…I won’t ever be satisfied, will I?”
