Chapter 1:

Just a Vacation

Ashes of War

Takahiro sat on his couch one last time. He had everything packed and ready to go. He opened his laptop one last time, and started a video call with Commander G.

"Are you ready for your vacation, son?"

Vacation, it was a simple precaution, which means a sign that tells the operation is about to start.

"Yes dad, I have a flight to Paris this evening. I will be heading out soon."

"Oh it's a long flight, isn't it. Don't forget to greet your sister there, she had a hard time since she left the house."

Sister, basically describes a nun. Takahiro was already informed about a girl, that he gonna meet at Mohe, a city in China at the border of Russia. The documents he received from Shin mentioned secret agents, who led the investigation at the border. As the investigation came to the end, they had an idea about where the headquarters of enemy organization is. It was somewhere near to Mohe, in the forest inside the chinese borders.

However, even with all the investigation they made, that was their only clue, which leads to the enemy organization. A secret agent named Gina were going to help Takahiro by providing him intel and equipment.

"Don't worry dad, I'll be taking care of her."

"Alright then, have fun with your vacation, don't miss your flight."

As the conversation ends, Takahiro removed the hard drive and put it back to his backpack. JGSA didn't want to leave anything to chance, even against an unknown enemy.

Commander G is the another thing, that they're being overcautious about. Even Takahiro don't know who he really is. His name, his face, his voice, all his identity was unknown. The video call they just made was made with voice changer and his camera was always off.

As he leaves the house, he locked the door. He was wearing a black raincoat and a black beret, which completely covers his ears, carrying a big black backpack. He walked towards the exit. It was time for him to get started.

Takahiro took a flight to Mohe Gulian Airport as a tourist and took a taxi to the city. He directly went to the city church, which was newly built. He didn't want to lose any time.

Church was almost empty. As he enters the church, he took a seat and acted like he was praying. A nun approached him slowly and handed over a Bible. After spending some time, Takahiro took the Bible with him and left the church, started walking to his hotel.

As he entered his room, he immediately locked the door and opened the Bible. The pages were scraped in the middle, he found a dismembered pistol and a note. A place outside the city and a time was written. As the night comes, he moved towards to the place to meet with Gina.

After a long walk, he found an old shack. He knocked the door five times, in a certain rhythm. After few seconds, he heard the lock got opened. The nun, who gave the Bible was standing front of him.

"You're late." said Gina, as if she got bored from waiting in this old boring shack. She had a short black hair and green eyes.

"I walked all the way up here. Let's just start talking the business."

"Well, there's not much to talk about." as she spoke, she reached a silver colored suitcase behind a shelf, and brought it out. "Here is all your ammunation, a suppressor, a radio to make contact with JGSA, a map showing around the city and possible locations of enemy bases marked on it." She handed over the suitcase to Takahiro and looked into his eyes, as if she got much more to say.

"Anything else?" asked Takahiro. He was curious since he received everything he needed. But the look Gina gave to him seemed like something he won't gonna like is about to happen.

"I know you're alone on this mission but I want you to take me with you."

"No."

"I gave you the information."

"Well that was your damn job and you've completed it just right now."

"I have my own reasons."

"And I don't care your reasons at all."

Gina didn't say anything, just kept looking Takahiro's eyes. She seemed a bit mad because she probably realised that she couldn't change his mind.

"Just get some rest and get going, Lieutenant. It was a pleasure to meet you in person." said Gina and moved towards to exit. Takahiro felt her disappointment.

He didn't ask anything about those possible locations marked on the map. That was all the information they found so far. Tracking down an unknown organization is always hard, especially if you don't know what are they really planning.

"Gina did her best with tracking all those suspicious activities." said Takahiro, as he inspects the map front of him. There were four markings, first one was in the airport. A hangar was closed during a maintenance that started 2 months ago. Airport was outside the city in the forest. Intel they got was saying that the enemy organization had its headquarters somewhere in the forest, so there is a good possibility to find some clue in there.

Second mark was showing an old sawmill in the forest. It wasn't too far from the city. Third mark was showing a factory in the city. Under the mark, there was a note saying that there were some weird smoking breaks at the factory. Every 10 minutes, a person switched with another and had a smoke outside, just as if they were on a watch against a threat.

Finally the last mark, covering a big area says there is a hidden bunker in the forest. Not only its entrance but its whole existance wasn't confirmed. There was no roads leading towards to it, which means it should be hard to transport any supply there.

"It better be my last stop." thought Takahiro aloud. "Let's just start with factory and follow any vehicle that gets out of there. If they have any connection with the organization, they should led me to their headquarters."

Takahiro folded the map and put it in his backpack. He lied down to the old dusty bed, and tried to get a sleep.
