Chapter 5:

Day 2

Grimm: Life or Death

The second day at Asphodel Meadows High School had arrived, ushering in my first B-day—filled with a mix of anticipation and a gnawing sense of unease. As I entered the school premises, my thoughts were a whirlwind of emotions, each step a testament to the tumultuous journey ahead.

Algebra class was my first destination. Little did I know that this would be the moment that changed everything. As I entered the classroom, my heart skipped a beat, and the world around me seemed to fade into the background. There she was—the enigmatic figure that had captured my thoughts since the moment I laid eyes on her.

Time froze, and I stood there like a statue, lost in the depths of her presence. It took the teacher's gentle prodding to snap me back to reality. I quickly moved to take a seat at the back, away from the crowd, my eyes never leaving her form.

The class began, but I was adrift in a sea of emotions, struggling to make sense of what I was feeling. Every word the teacher spoke was a distant murmur, a backdrop to the intense magnetism drawing me towards her. I had never experienced anything like this before—this inexplicable, consuming pull.

The bell signaled the end of the class, and I knew I had to do something, anything. I summoned all the courage I could muster and approached her. But as I opened my mouth, words failed me. Panic surged through my veins, and before I could embarrass myself further, I moved on, leaving my intentions hanging in the air.

The following period went by in a blur, her image burned into my mind, her presence affecting me even in her absence. And then came the final class of the day—AP Computer Science. I took my customary place in the back, hoping to find solace in the routines of the day.

As the tardy bell rang, the door opened and a familiar voice burst out saying "Sorry I'm late, I had gotten a little caught up." Her voice reached my ears, sending a jolt of electricity through my veins. I turned my head just slightly, and there she was, taking a seat in the front of the class, as far opposite to me as she could be as if the universe itself had conspired to place her in my path.

This wasn't a mere coincidence anymore. It was as if destiny was weaving its intricate threads around us, binding us together in ways I couldn't comprehend. My heart raced, my palms grew clammy, and I struggled to concentrate on anything other than the presence of Yvonne. I had figured out her name by the teacher calling on her, she was a real teacher's pet, a real go-getter. Always trying to go into the spotlight. Lucky for her she didn't need to waste all of her energy doing that, she had already captured all of my attention.

Throughout the day, I found myself oscillating between euphoria and despair. I yearned to know more about her, to understand the depth of the connection that had taken root within me. Yet, I was paralyzed by my own emotions, unable to bridge the gap between us.

I had done some thinking, uncovering her name—Yvonne—an unusual yet captivating moniker. And yet, the name felt approachable, a reminder that behind her captivating presence, she was a person with her own stories and complexities.

My thoughts veered between the realms of curiosity and insecurity. I longed to initiate a conversation, to delve into the depths of her world, but every time I tried, my voice failed me. It was a powerlessness I had never experienced before, a humbling reminder of the vulnerability that comes with love.
