Chapter 3:

undesireable vision

Dreamlike Seasons

Suddenly its pitch black and my body feels light. A distorted, grainy female voice starts speaking as a bird’s eye view vision of a house on green, sunny plains appears “You have been taken far from your peaceful lands” the eerily familiar voice says. The vision continues with a couple and their 2 kids playing in front of the house. “Forced to take a path that will take years of travel” a vision of roadless jagged mountains, a seemingly endless desert at sundown, and a frozen wasteland that overlooks the green plains from before. “Along the way back, you’ve been promised riches by an empire in the clutches of ruin” a vision of a faction’s banner, gold coins, pretty women, a man sitting back on a chair with luxury clothing. “The elixir of life” a vision of a vial filled with a green liquid, a sunflower to its side. “If only you can defeat the evil warlord that spreads death and destruction from his dark tower” a vision of a tall tower surrounded by lifeless black barren land. “His minions ravage the sacred lands, only you can stop him” a vision of where the black barren land is spreading into green plains. A burnt village is near, with a big fire in its center emitting large black smoke. Humanoid creatures in black armor can be seen adding bulky objects to the blaze.

“He knows of your arrival, and he will be coming for you!” is the last I hear of the voice as everything fades to black again. “Coming for me?” I repeat uneasy. Then, a new vision appears, one where I’m behind someone. He is wearing broken black armor, ice has formed, filling in where his armor has broken off. His armor is half ice, evaporating cold vapor. Some of the ice has penetrated his skin. It seems to hurt him as much as protect him.

As I’m concentrated looking at him, he slowly starts to turn his head. “He is aware of me”, I quickly realize, gasping. He turns around completely, looks straight at me. I’m rooted with fear. The upper half of his face has a metal mask of sorts. The lower half is pale blue, the skin looks chilled almost to a freezing point, it s decaying, peeling, shriveling, sprinkles of snow here and there. He takes a step towards me, with a angry growl he reaches toward me. “Hes going to get me” I think, unable to move, yet the vision ends abruptly fading to black . I’m on my knees and hands, my heart is jumping out of my chest. Something about that character terrifies me to the core. It felt like I wanted to feint from fear.

“Axel dear…” a faint voice can be heard. “Axel! hey rock head!, were here!” Pandora’s yelling gets my attention. Still on my hands and knees, I look up to see Pandora floating above me. My mind still on the character from the vision. Wait, did she say “we’re here? Have we arrived at the starting area” I wonder. Half dazed, I try to to look around me, I realize the room has changed.

The new room is dark, the floors are cold. Gray walls with old crumbling blocks surround me. There is no door only a large square opening leading to a hallway of sorts. The room openings have torches on each side. Across the hallway is another room with a large opening, just like the one I’m in. There’s dry hay in the corner in shape of a bed. “I guess this is my starting room, or base?. Is this hay bed is where I respawn?” I think over. “Now, now don’t sleep on me, thats no fun” says Pandora as she floats around me.

I get up, my knees still slightly shaking from the vision. “The game has started. I guess the main point of the game is to beat that dark warlord from the vision, but for now I’ll have to forget about him, get stronger, with strength I’ll have courage” I gather. I continued to ponder “usually I read online guides and read lore history for a game. Can’t use those here, no saves either. I’ll have to start by exploring” I conclude.

“Here we go” I say as I start to take my first step towards the hallway. “Don’t forget your dumb stick and rock, now” says Pandora with a sarcastic smile, as she floats above me in slow circles. Near me, on the floor, there’s a rock about the size of my palm, and a stick with a pointy end. The stick is skinnier than I thought, its even bent near the middle. I look at Pandora, she is looking back at me with a sinister grin. “We’ll this is what I wanted” I admit, halfway regretting my decision. I pick up my rock and stick, one in each hand, then step on to the hallway.

It’s a dark hallway with a door on each opposite end. Only standing here I realize there could be enemies around. I quickly raise my pointy stick in front of me, ready for for defense. I squad down slightly, turning in each direction scanning for enemies. “What player did I get teamed up with” I think I hear Pandora murmur. My cheeks get a little hot from embarrassment, but I must go on like this, a high level RPG player gives the enemy no chance.

Two doors, I have to chose one, “I have to start somewhere, I choose the door to my right” I say to myself. I slowly walk towards the door I chose, ready for anything. Pandora follows, floating close behind me. Shes watching me and has a sweet smile like one of an employee ready to help a customer. I get to the door, grab the door handle get ready to open it. “This is it, behind this door maybe my first battle, am I ready?.” I ask myself, “maybe I can just stay in this room?” a thought creeps inside me. “NO” I say quickly and determined. “I’m opening this door!” is my resolution as I pull the door handle. As the door creaks open, a bright, orange sunlight starts to shine in. “What is this?” I ask myself in wonder as I walk to the new area.
