Realistic Encounter

There were 2 days left until the contest deadline. Shin was on the right track, but he still needed 15,000 more words. He had strong doubts that he would make it, considering that the story had developed faster than expected. The solution, then, was clear: resort to the filler episode, or in this case, the filler chapter. Just like in anime, where there was an episode completely disconnected from the plot without any logical connection, where all the characters had carefree fun at the beach, Shin would finish his chapter where the characters took a loooooong break. In fact, if the story had been very fast-paced, the readers would probably want a well-deserved break, and he would provide it. Reading is demanding, so if someone reads less, they should be happier. Shin couldn't wait to imagine the satisfied face of a reader who had reached this point and said:
"Thank you, Shin! The reward for reading so much is that I'll have to read less!"
Of course, this was an incredibly clever breaking of the fourth wall, and it was absolutely not due to my incompetence and disorganization as a writer, Shin thought. After all, in the world of anime, manga, and light novels, there are countless cases where fillers have been used. Unfortunately, it won't be a beach episode, but it will be something entirely different. Here's the best chapter of this story, a tale that reveals something very interesting about someone:

Beach Episode (for real this time)

One ordinary day, Aya, Rei, and I decided to go to the beach.
Aya and Rei looked really beautiful.
I truly have to thank the author for giving me the chance to admire their bodies in person. You might not understand me at first, but if this story ever gets an anime adaptation, this episode will DEFINITELY be animated, and then you'll understand what I meant and agree with me.
Aya noticed that I was looking at her (respectfully) and said to me:
"You perv, stop staring at me like that!"
Aya was truly beautiful, until she opened her mouth.
Meanwhile, Rei was in her own world, and she was very quiet. There were very few people on the beach. The sea was quite clear. I tried to strike up a conversation with Rei.
"Rei, I need to ask you again to pilot the Eva."
and she responded with a loud "Huh?"
I replied:
"Um... Rei, how should I put it... I need your character to reach a satisfying resolution. That's why we're using this beach episode to definitively conclude your character. Because this is the last chapter you'll appear in."
"Eh? And what needs to happen for my character to complete the narrative arc?"
"Great question, Rei. I'd love to answer you if only I knew the answer. Okay, let's try this. Are you happy? Has this writing experience changed you?"
"Yes, I've changed—"
"Well then, we don't need you anymore. Step aside and let the story develop around me and Aya."
Rei was more confused than ever. Yet, she wasn't angry. Maybe because, to be angry, you'd first have to understand the reason for your anger. Anyway, I saw Rei gradually becoming more transparent. She was fading away. What does this mean? Had her conclusive moment in the story already come? Indeed, I feel a bit nostalgic thinking about it. Rei will likely win the contest, because she's written a beautiful story, published chapters regularly, has a nice cover, and, above all, hasn't written any beach episodes.
As for Aya and me... hmm... well, at least I can say we tried. Actually, Aya is already revising the story she wrote. In such a short time, the results she's achieved are nothing short of impressive. Anyway, Aya, semi-transparent Rei, and I played two rounds of volleyball for fun and then went swimming. We had a blast. Aya has already told me how important Rei and I are to her, and the same goes for me. I wonder if Rei feels the same.
"Rei, what are Aya and I to you?"
"Shin, what an unexpected question. Right now, I wouldn't know how to answer that. Let's see... You're good friends. I'm not someone who forms strong connections with people. Sure, I can talk to new people without any problems, and I'm fairly sociable, but all the bonds I've formed are quite superficial. However, with you two, I feel a stronger connection."
I didn't expect that kind of answer. I've always seen Rei talking with her classmates at school, so I'd always assumed she had many friends.
"Shin, the only thing that's unclear to me is why Aya suddenly decided to invite us for a day at the beach."
"Rei, I wonder about that too. But I'm not complaining. It was definitely worth it."
At that point, Rei disappeared completely.
And so, the curtain falls on the beach chapter, crucial for further characterization and development of the characters, or at least that's what Shin told me. Doing the math, I've noticed I'm just a few words away from reaching the minimum word count required to participate in the contest, so I've used them before this pragraph to convey what I believe is the main message of this work.
