Chapter 15:

Surprise

Realistic Encounter

Today the weather was slightly more bearable. It was less hot than yesterday, but still warm. This time, to avoid sweating again and feeling sick like last night, I put on a tank top and really short shorts. I left the house with my laptop in my backpack and headed to Aya's house. When I rang the doorbell at her house, she opened the door and looked at me with her mouth agape.

"Shin... I don't know what intentions you have, but I don't want to do anything ill-advised today."
Ah, classic Aya. We went to her room. She had read my story, but I didn't know that yet. If I wanted to talk to her, this was the moment. I don't remember the details of what I dreamed about last night, but I remember in general terms what I had to do. So, I told her the guilt I had felt until now for not helping her when she moved to this city. As I spoke, she listened to me in silence. She seemed interested in what I was saying. Perhaps she wasn't silent because she was unsure of what to say, but rather because she didn't want to interrupt me. As soon as I finished, Aya smiled.

Aya thought that Shin had matured a lot in this year and that she was pleasantly surprised by the courage and honesty he showed on this occasion. She thought that it was time for her to tell him how she felt about it. She had to do it.

"Now I'll let you read my latest chapter, Shin... No, wait..."
Aya thought that if Shin had taken the trouble to talk to her in person, then Aya should do the same. Was Shin more mature than Aya? The mere thought made Aya slightly envious... not that she cared about anything (as she claimed)! And so Aya told him how important he had actually been to her during this difficult period, and how she would never forget what he had done for her. And that's how the two took a step forward towards greater and better mutual understanding. After delving a bit deeper into each other's thoughts, the two said their goodbyes, and Shin returned home. The first thing he did was go to the website and open Aya's story. He saw that the story was finished. Aya had published all the chapters, but she would surely do a general revision and make changes to the parts she wanted to improve. Shin read the last 2 chapters he hadn't read yet and realized that somehow they referred to the recent events between Aya and Shin, especially in these days.

Huh, what a beginner, Shin thought. It's really easy to understand that she's referring to me. Wait... but even in my story, it's clear that I'm referring to Aya!
Uh, obviously... Aya isn't a beginner!

Meanwhile, Aya read the last 3 chapters Shin had published and had an even stronger confirmation of what Shin felt. The two knew what the other felt, but they hadn't yet taken a step forward to say it. Shin had an idea. He picked up his phone and sent a message: He invited Aya to the park for the next day, at sunset. Aya confirmed that she would be there, though she wanted to know the reason.
Shin replied that it was a surprise.
