Chapter 11:

Kaito Fujiwara

I Ruined My Wife's Family

Chapter 11

Rei has yet to have found a lawyer. He needed to get legal issues done for Itomori Entertainment. While he does that, he might as well get two birds with one stone and visit his brother-in-law. He had Kuro do some digging where he worked and Daiki drove him to the law firm.

Rei stood outside, staring at the rundown building. Patches of green and scraped paint littered it, the paper sign on the law firm bent, half hanging, barely holding on the wall. The place looked poorly managed from outside, he entered the building, hoping for different results. He was wrong to hope. Water dripped from the ceiling as Rei walked through the halls, the lights flickered, obscuring his vision, the deeper he got in, the more he caught debris, broken glasses and closed shops. This was an abandoned building.

After a few minutes of walking, he found the place in the corner, the light reflecting on the ground, being well light. The door was more traditional, without a handle, just a sliding shoji. Rei pushed it, peeking his head in first to check if he was in the right place. Beyond, there were two desks with different name plates. He caught Kaito Fujiwara in one of them. This was the right place.

He got in slowly, smoke filled the area, fogging his sight a little as flicked his wrists, trying to shoo the air away. It was a spacious area with three different sitting areas, a big window, and two official desks with stacked up papers. There were some thugs on the seat, acting as if they owned the place as they gambled right in front of him with a game of hanafuda... wasn't this illegal? And they were doing it in a law firm? The moment he entered, they stood up, looking at him up and down. The designer clothes made him stand out. "Ha? What is a rich punk like him doing here?"

Rei didn't know how they found out he's rich. Maybe he gave off a different air? As he got closer in, he noticed there was someone behind one of the office desks. Some timid man, the name plate Yoichi Nanase on. The man's shoulders were slumped, fixing his glasses as he typed on the keyboard, slowly.

"I came here to get... a lawyer."

The men that approached him chewed loudly, the bubble gum on their mouth, puffing it and letting it pop. They suddenly sat down. "I guess you heard how good the lawyer is here too?"

Kaito accepted even thugs for clients?

"Oh! Welcome." Yoichi looked up, as if noticing him now.

He quickly stood up, the paper in his hands falling, spreading on the floor. He panicked as he got on his knees, picking them up one by one.

"Umm, I'm here for Kaito." Rei let him know.

"Kaito is outside at the moment, why don't you take a seat?" Yoichi gestured to the chairs that were near the thugs.

Rei nodded, about to sit when a man entered the room. He had such an intimidating aura to him. Black hair slicked down, a mean piercing gaze, wearing a shirt without sleeves, showing off their muscular shape. His arm had a full sleeve tattoo, a cigarette on his mouth, two earrings on each ear. Another thug... he tried to ignore them.

The thugs greeted the man who entered politely. Maybe their boss? "Oh, you are here boss. You got a client."

"Did I?" The man pulled the cigarette between his index and middle finger, blowing it lightly as he tilted his head. Rei turned around to see him properly, they both made eye contact and their eyes widened. The cigarette fell off his lips.

"Brother-in-law?" They simultaneously said, shocked.

XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO

Rei took a breath in. Wow. Just wow. Kaito sat on the swivelling chair of his office, rotating, tongue on the inside corner of his mouth, making his cheeks puffy from one side. He seemed to observe Rei.

Rei blinked at him, standing before him. He didn't expect this.

After the long silence. "Why are you here?"

"I needed a lawyer so I thought, 'Why not my brother-in-law?'" Rei raised his index finger, animatedly speaking. Kaito blinked, another silence.

"Don't you know the universal rule? Never use your family members for favours?" He was trying to indirectly tell him why he sought him out? If he didn't, he would never have found his secret. Instead of humouring him, Rei decided to annoy him. He dealt with Haru, he can deal with Kaito the same way too.

"Does Kana know? Or the rest of the family?" Rei let the words hang, amused.

Kaito frowned, glaring at him. "No... if you know what's good for you, you should keep your mouth shut."

He brought out a silver bat from the side of his office, hitting the desk, making a loud bang. His tone was threatening.

He is getting deja vu like someone yesterday threatened him or something like that.

"What job do you want me to do? Make it quick and make sure you pay. I don't do favours for people for free." Not giving Rei a chance, Kaito switched the topic.

"I have a case for you, if you take this case and win, your law firm will become famous..." Although he looked around, where the gangsters were sitting on the side, happily eating some noodles. He is not sure if they will with these thugs around.

"Famous..." Kaito's attitude disappeared, a cocky smile on his face as he seemed to daydream about it. Rei looked at him weird, why were there flowers in the background? Did he like the idea of being famous? But then Kaito's gaze hardened. "Is this about the Itomori Entertainment bullying case? I don't want to defend rich assholes."

Kaito, the brother-in-law who is quiet, sure was showing more of his rigid personality.

"If you solved this case, you will owe a debt to one of the richest man in the world? It would be a shame to pass on that." Rei switched to his other leg and placed a hand on his desk, grinning. He was confident and assured.

"Really? Your father?" Kaito laughed before scratching his head. "I don't like him. If he knew I was working on his case, he would dislike it even more."

He noticed there was some sort of recognition. "Have you met him before?"

"Aaaaaaa... you can say that." At his extended reply, Rei knew this man did something. He rubbed his face, feeling the pressure. "What did you do?"

"Nothing..."

"What. Did. You. Do?" Why was Rei getting a strange case of deja vu right now again?

"Well..."

There was a dramatic silence.

"I just insulted him." He muttered, avoiding his gaze and whistling to the side.

"Just?" Yea, no, he knew something was up. He rotated his hands to ask him to continue. "And?"

"I threatened to beat him up-"

"You did what?"

"And I blackmailed him afterwards."

"..." Rei closed his eyes. Didn't Kana say something similar? What is wrong with these two siblings? Actually, what was wrong with all three of them?

"I don't think it was that bad. It just sounds worse to the ears." Kaito tried to convince that it wasn't bad in person.

"You should have ended your sentence with the first three words."

"I don't-" Kaito went quiet, glaring at him.

How was it that those two siblings were so alike? But more than this insanity, didn't his father say he liked all the children of this family? When did this happen? He was curious but he had more pressing issues that he couldn’t side track.

"So are you going to take the case? A good lawyer is still a good lawyer? Right?" Rei tried to use sweet words to change his mind.

"No. Even if he agrees, I still refuse." The thugs brought a cup of instant coffee on their table, gesturing for them to sit down and have a drink. They figured this conversation would take a longer time. Kaito and Rei moved from his office seat to where the clients usually were. Rei sat politely, legs tightly next to each other while Kaito plopping down with his legs wide open.

"Why not?" Rei really needed a lawyer who would not be brought by his brother. Right now, he had nothing but second rate lawyers which he didn't want.

"Because I'm confident..." Kaito knocked his knuckles on the table before pointing a finger at him. "Your daddy's company had bullied these people. I won't side with the predators."

"Ah? What if we were the victim?" Rei cockily said, amused by Kaito's sense of justice. He didn't strike him as a man who cared about victims but that personality... he can exploit. Thank god, he wasn't shrewd like Haru.

"Ha! When has a multi-billion company ever been a victim?" Kaito seemed bored by the games Rei was playing.

"But what if... we are victims then what?" Rei repeated, challengingly. He lowered his hands to sip his coffee. Kaito brows furrowed, confused where he is going with this, his hands interlocked with each other on his lap.

"I'll... defend you then." Kaito responded, almost amused by the prospective. "But what if you are not?" He threw it back with a winning grin. He was confident that he was right.

"If we were not victims then I'll pay you to defend... our enemies." A creepy smile lifted up on Rei's face, his horns and tail popped out, a dark aura seemed to come out from behind him. Kaito's expressions dropped, feeling a little intimidated and confused. He couldn't get a read on him. Was he really confident that a bunch of low paying employees were lying to get rid of a big corporation?

"We will see." Kaito slammed his leg on the desk to intimidate him, the paper cup staggered, spilling as he glared at him. "I'll do extensive research and I'll prove to you that your company is NOT the victim."

"I would love it if you do that!" Rei clapped his hand together, eyes closing in a cute smile as he finished the cup in short gulps. Then he stood up, dusting his coat a little before he tilted his head.

"I'm in your care." Rei bowed. Ryouga won't care about a lawyer he never heard about before. He hoped Kaito, despite having no name, would impress him by the end of it.

Kaito just waved him off, annoyed.

"This is unrelated to the case but when I sleep over again, I want you to side with me against your father." Rei smiled.

"Why would I do that?" Kaito scoffed. "I don't want to."

"Well, if you don't, I'll just tell everyone the truth. I'll bring Yamamoto Fujiwara here." Rei shrugged.

"You wouldn't!" Kaito lowered his legs, standing up, being a whole head taller than him.

"Oooh what can stop my mouth from spilling such a secret that Kaito Fujiwara is a thug who beats up people as a hobby?" Rei covered his open mouth with his hands, pretending to be shocked. He dealt with Haru already, he can handle this.

"You scheming bastad!"

"Ahhh what could possibly keep my mouth shut?" Rei's index came to his forehead, pretending to think.

"Nobody would believe you." Kaito pulled the same tactic as Haru.

"Kana would believe it." Rei gave him a knowing grin.

"You-" Kaito took a deep breath before he opened his eyes. If Kana heard, she would definitely try to find out if it was true, unlike Fujiwara who would dismiss it because it came from Rei's mouth. "Fine... I'll take your side."

Rei clapped in approval, he was easier to persuade than Haru. Kana being the magic word really helped him a lot. He will send her lots of gifts when he gets back home for all the help, she didn't know she provided him. "Good decision. I'm glad we are on the same page."

He acted as if he didn't threaten him. Kaito rolled his eyes, took a seat back down and pulled out his packet of cigarette, lightening up a loose. "Just fuck off already."

"I'll leave you be. I'll see you in a few days for the results." Rei waved him goodbye as he left with a skip on his steps.

As Rei left the rundown building, strolling slowly with his hands in his pockets as he reached his car. Daiki opened the door for him and Rei got in, enjoying his window seat as his personal driver sent him back home. Daiki looked at the front mirror, noticing the menacing aura coming from Rei. "What made you so happy Rei-sama?"

"Nothing makes me happier than everything going according to my plan." Rei's pupil glanced at the front mirror, making contact with his driver. He looked away, a Cheshire grin reflected on the glass. "This is only the start of my bigger scheme."
