A worthless death and meeting the goddess

"uho!...."

That's all I could utter, when suddenly a truck hit me from the side.

How did this happen? I was sure I had looked on both sides before crossing the road.

The blow was so intense that I was not even sure if I would live or not after coming out of this.

Is this karma? It must be, for I was living my life without doing anything.

My whole worthless life is being flashed before my eyes.

My innocent childhood, my awkward teenage and my dull salaryman life till 28. All flashed in an instant.

The pain is so intense in all parts of my body, that I don't even know what is what anymore.

I just gave in and lost my consciousness. There goes my boring worthless life of loner.

I woke up to an unknown ceiling, rather there was no ceiling at all.

I wanted to know where I was, but was speechless by the spectacle in front of me.

I was currently in a pure white space with nothing and in front of me except for a hazy person shaped figure in front of me.

They were emitting light so bright that it was difficult to see.

I remember I was hit and then?... So where is this, Am I dead? Is this heaven?

Or maybe my sins of living without making efforts and living worthless life are to be judged here . Or maybe this is a coma state and my body is still in hospital.

Figures, being awarded a vegetable state so that I can repent for not living fully when I had the chance.

Someone spoke in my mind.

Maybe this light personification in front of me is telling me the present state of my being, through telepathy.

(Correct. My child. You died in a road accident and then your soul which was to be judged, was brought by me to this space.)

The light persona spoke in such a soothing and effeminizing voice that it could calm the greatest of tsunamis.

Although I heard the news of my death, I was as calm as a monk.

Kami sama or perhaps should I call her Megami sama seems to have brought me to this place, instead of the regular process that is followed during one's demise.

But why? I did not do any special worship to any gods during my life.

In fact, I rarely ever visited shrines or temples. Although...

(You seem to be in dilemma over something. But first will you listen to my request?)

The goddess Sama interrupts my thoughts.

"A request from Megami Sama?"

(Yes. You see I am not a goddess of your world. I am a minor new goddess who governs a world in another dimension entirely. And I need some seeds for my new world.)

"Seeds as in, for plants?"

(No. I mean souls with knowledge to be born in my world so that they can progress my world and make it advanced. My dimension has a planet called Ellisium just like your planet earth....

But I want this planet to advance enough to spread life on other planets of my world. But right now it is only at level of medieval ages as compared to earth...

So, I am slowly borrowing souls from this world, to increase the development there and for that purpose I called you here after your death.)

The story is really unbelievable just like the Isekai novels I used to read.

Another dimension Megami Sama wants to take me to her world.

But why does she wants to progress her world so fast.

She said she was a minor new goddess.

So perhaps doing so will increase her rank as goddess.

It is really unbelievable that even goddesses have to compete in race of being successful just like mortals.

Seems like race of life is unescapable for any form of life.

Anyways I am no scientist of any kind.

Nor am I extremely knowledgeable.

Although I do have an engineering degree.

But, doesn't the Goddess Sama know that the humanity here has not yet learnt to travel to other planets yet.

Only unmanned missions have been sent.

And to expect me to impart knowledge of pioneering to other planets in space, to these other dimension beings. Just wow.

Seems like the Goddess Sama has captured a wrong soul.

Maybe she should have captured a soul of an alien in our world.

"Sorry to say this Goddess Sama, but I don't think that I have the knowledge or ability to complete your task."

After saying this I was ready to be punished.

Maybe now that I was deemed useless, I might be purged.

Maybe my existence will cease to exist even as a soul.

Well that is all well and good since I am tired of living and being conscience anyways.

(Fufufu... What a pitiful child you are. Just keep calm and listen to me...

I do not want a very rapid progress. What I want is a little catalysts to keep the progress going....

You see, I cannot take away souls that are very prominent in your world as that would affect your world too...

Also as for the aliens that you talk about, let's just say they are a little incompatible.)

Goddess Sama did a dry laugh at my self-depreciating way of thinking of myself. Also the aliens exist, what a surprise.

And since the beginning, the light personified Goddess Sama is reading my mind.

Well duh she's a Goddess.

So in the end, since I am useless and worthless, nobody will feel a loss even if my soul is passed to other dimension.

But even then I do not think I have any knowledge for progressing the ages even a little.

Knowledge like farming, production, electronics etc. is needed for such task.

And I do not think that any normal citizen would know such things in detail unless internet is available.

(Well let me clear your doubts again...

Firstly, the technology of science is not advanced at all in my world...

But the laws of my world are little different from yours since...

instead of pure science we have a combination of laws that govern science and magic.)

"Magic as in the one from the anime and games"

( Yes and although many scholars exist in my world that have raveled many of these principles and have made advance technological tools based on that.....

But what I want is a person who can form a connection between these scholars and common people and also use the knowledge of earth to progress the the ages....

Now I know what you have is nearly not enough for the task, but I am just doing long term experiments by sending people from earth once a hundred years.)

I wanted to know about magic but the Goddess Sama seems to have ignored my interests and continued on with her long monologue.

(Also, although you will not have any internet there but I assure you that I will impart enough knowledge to you, before sending you there.)

"Why not do that to the people living in Ellisium directly?"

( I cannot directly interfere with the minds of people already living there....

Even when they die they reincarnate there in a very automated way, and I do not want to interfere in that mechanism....

Since my world has very few workers doing the reincarnation work , it will lead to huge amount of repair work load.....

But in your world there are millions and trillions of workers working in the divine realm so they can deal with the discrepancies easily....

So after talking to some of the gods on earth I had established a deal of taking a soul every hundred years...

Well I cannot say more than that...

Anyways the world of magic does entice me.

Also I will be getting knowledge from Goddess Sama, so I am sure I will be a successful man there.

"So Goddess Sama if I may ask, Is there any danger in your world Ellisium?. Like wars, or calamities...

Or perhaps monsters and mythical beasts or dungeons perhaps?"

(Well, yes there are monsters and dungeons and my world is definitely ridden with wars and so...

But fret not I will give you enough power to sustain your life unless some very rare event happens...

You see, this is the most I can do since I already told you that I cannot directly interfere with the world or people directly after they are born.)

"What happens if I say no to your offer?...

Also what happens if I die in your world in case I go there?......

And what if I fail your mission?"

This is definitely I want to ask.

A moment ago I did not care what would happen to me but now that I am getting a dream like isekai reincarnation, I want to know if there is any downfall at all.

(Its simple, if you do not except my mission, you will be put in your world's general reincarnation system where you were supposed to go...

And if you die in my world after going there, then depending upon your performance I can keep you in my world reincarnation system with extra benefits or return you to your world system...

No punishments will be given even if you fail, unless you use my given powers in negative way to destroy my world....

In that case your soul will be given punishment in hell for many years.)

So my soul will not be destroyed huh...

(Soul is a part of god so of course it can never be destroyed.)

"Oh well. Then goddess Sama if I choose to go, what are the benefits I will be getting apart from knowledge of the world."

(Greedy are we. Well its ok....

But I cannot transfer knowledge directly to your brain, rather I will tell you as much as I can until you go to Ellisium....

So try to learn as much as you can, so that you can manage yourself there and try to spread it to as many people as possible....

Just remembering your past life experience about games, manga and anime would also help you a lot....

After that Goddess Sama gave me a brief explanation about her world and basic workings.

But she told me nothing about my skills or how they would work and I too forgot to ask about them.

I even forgot to ask about where I would be born and into what species.

A human, an elf, a beast man. Are there beast men, and elves and such?

Will I be born as an infant or would I be transferred as my old self again?.

When I was lost in my thoughts the bright silhouette of the goddess came near me and a part of that light passed into me.

"Wha......"

And suddenly I lost consciousness.

I forgot to ask how will I be reincarnated and where? Seriously me?

And here I thought I was extremely smart and careful person.

Goddess POV~

The soul this time was a highly intelligent one.

No one asked me these many questions before although he did miss the important ones.

The earlier ones were either too overwhelmed and prostrated themselves or some of them got angry for dying.

But seeing how miserably he lived even though he had such good qualities, I can see why he was so calm and obedient.

Truly unfortunate that such a gem was living such a life. Fate is a cruel thing.

Although I gave him the impression that he was chosen for being a worthless person, but that is far from truth.

I am sure living in my world that child will surely become more true to himself and start enjoying his life.

The only thing is that, due to those bitter memories of his past he is a little sensitive and can succumb to anger and depression very easily.

Due to his weakened will power, he will be weak to mind magic attacks.

Hope he can overcome that gradually.

I want to keep an eye on him but the work just keeps piling up.

He is a little serious and introverted person, but I am sure once he starts making friends he will have great fun.
