Chapter 5

Took an arrow to the knee, almost

I was hit by an arrow and fell near the tree.

The girl groaned in pain as she fell along with me.

Oh no! Did she get hit too.

I saw an arrow sticking out of my leg from behind but the girl seemed unhurt.

I then immediately crawled behind the tree, removed the tied hand of the girl from above my head and cut open the ivy on her legs to free her.

I then laid her down behind the tree.

I peeked the tree and there were five goblins coming here carrying knives and bows.

Did my conceal skill stopped working or was it because I was directly spotted.

I might have become careless while escaping.

Where did they come from?

They might be the ones that might have gone to collect food or something and had just returned and then they may have saw me escaping their settlement from behind.

Right now they are about 10 metres away. I quickly checked on the girl again.

There was no arrow on her body. Seems like luckily only I got hit.

But the pain is unbearable and how should I deal with the goblins.

My adrenaline is pumping very high and I can still bear the pain.

I hope we can make out of this alive.

I quickly appraised the potion bottles.

There are two of these and rest are some spider anti poison and two HP recovery potion (C Grade and 8(10) effectiveness).

Potions in this world seem very specific and not an all rounder type as I read about in isekai novels.

Without thinking much I just pulled out the arrow and poured half a bottle of wound heal potion on it.

The pain was immeasurable and I groaned very loud.

My hands which were red with my blood were trembling with pain.

The wound closed somewhat but not completely.

I also drank a little of HP recovery potion. The taste was very bitter but the pain subsided.

Next I peaked the goblins and they were already here.

They also seemed to have fired some arrows and some of them were stuck on ground near me.

I took my iron shield in my left hand and took out the sword and faced the goblins after standing up.

My bag and the girl are behind the tree.

I have to keep vigilance or I might end up being flanked by them as their numbers is more and they may try to get a shot on the girl or me from behind.

I will finish this as quickly as possible. But the goblins seemed intelligent.

There were two archers and three knife holders. The archers are behind the three with knife holders.

I decided to cover the girl with the 2 extra iron shields I had, to protect her from arrows.

The small girl who was curled up in fetus position and groaning in pain was now shielded completely.

Then I ran towards the goblins who have reached quite near to us.

I kept one eye on the three knife holders and the other on the the archers.

I did a big swing on the first approaching goblin.

My sword and his knife collided. But the momentum of my swing won and I was able to cut his chest.

In the meantime the other two goblins, moved towards my right and left rear and thrust their knives in my back.

But thankfully due to leather jacket the knives did not penetrate deep.

Even if I was wounded a little, the adrenaline was so strong that I did not notice.

I then kicked the goblin in front and did a back jump and immediately slashed the goblin on right with a rotating swing.

He tried to block it, but my swing was faster and it injured his face and shoulder.

The goblin on left then came thrusting his knife but I blocked it with my shield.

I tried to kick the left goblin, but it was avoided.

Meanwhile one of the archers started moving around, to get to our rear and attack me or the girl with his arrows.

The situation was becoming too hectic. He also started saying something to the other goblin archer.

"Gurrraaa guga gugga (call)"

"gugga (ok)"

He probably ordered his archer buddy to call other goblins, it seems. That would not be good.

In the meantime, I did a swing on the left goblin, cutting his arm.

Now all three goblins were injured. I decided to ignore the goblin on left and thrust my sword on the right one.

Thankfully it connected and the right goblin was pierced. I then kicked him away and he fell down and died.

Meanwhile the goblin in front of me, came towards me with a swing, but I cut him too with my sword.

But the right goblin took advantage of my gap and again thrust his knife in my back.

Even with leather jacket I felt pain running my back.

Somehow with my shield in my left hand, i bashed the goblin very hard.

It staggered and backed away and I killed him with my sword.

Suddenly then an arrow came and grazed my right arm. This was from the archer who remained.

I exchanged the shield with wound heal potion from item box and poured it on my wound and also took a sip of it too.

My wounds on my back and shoulder seems to have been healed more of less and the pain subsided too. As expected of B rank potion.

Meanwhile the goblin was reading his arrow again. I ran towards him with sword ready.

He got scared and started running away too because now he was all alone.

I swapped the heavy sword and shield with a knife and chased him in full speed.

After reaching him I lodged my knife in his neck from back with full force and with a loud cry it fell down and died.

I immediately ran back to the girl. Put my knife in my item box.

Tied the shield on my back behind the bag pack, to protect from arrows.

Then I princess carry the girl and started running in full speed.

After running for about 20 minutes, I stopped.

My leg muscles were screaming in pain as I had run in full speed for 20 minutes straight.

I checked my surroundings. But there was no sign of goblins chasing.

I hid in a particularly tall bush and laid down the girl.

She seems alive somehow but has fainted and no longer groaning in pain.

I took a sip from the animal skin sack containing water. It tasted horrendous.

I may get sick from drinking this. Anyways, now I had to choose, if I should give the remaining HP recovery potion to girl or should I save it for future fight.

Honestly I have never used any weapon and I won because of these potions and the fact that goblins were also very skilled.

But they were still using their instincts and had more experience than me.

They did not seemed like sex crazed dumb animals as I was expecting them to be.

Even though the girl was in front of them, they were focused on fighting with me first.

Or maybe they were so angry at me taking their 'gift for their boss' that they forgot about their libido due to fear of their boss.

I donot know, but the fact is that, this last HP potion is my lifesaver.

I cannot afford to fight without it and also cannot even be sure if the girl's fever can be cured with it or not.

Still I opened the girl's with my hand, and poured just a few sips worth of HP recovery potion in it.

Her temperature is still high. But she is breathing atleast. She swallowed the potion somehow.

I kept the remaining potions in my item box. Sorry dear but you will have to endure a little more until we find safety.

Then I will give you the remaining potion too. But first I should find the way out of here.

I looked around and saw that, to my surprise there was a tree here that could be easily climbed.

So I immediately went up the tree. Seriously, though this body is quite well built.

I had never climbed a tree in my previous life. My body was not athletic at all. In fact I made my body so.

On earth, after the age of 13, I don't think I ever went for a run. From age of 13 to 28, I never even once went for a run nor went to a gym.

Therefore my reflexed became very weak after about 21 years of age and my stomach became flabby and round.

My food habits were also not good, especially during my hostel days in college or while I was staying alone during my job.

But here I am in this new body. This body does exactly as I try to do.

No gap or delay in reflexes. Perfect control. Maybe, this might also be due to a passive skill.

I donot know.

Seriously that goddess just threw me in the worst possible place and did not even give any info about skills or anything else.

I know that it was my mistake for not confirming and asking that but still.

A tired sigh escaped my mouth as I made my way up the tree.

Reaching a height of about 6 meters, I looked around.

The sun has gone down quite a bit. It seems around 4 in the evening now.

And with reference to the sun, there seems to be a break in the trees in the north west direction.

Other that that there are trees all around. That seems like the only option now.
