First Contact

Thankfully the trees cleared quite a lot and what came beyond was grassland and marshes.

I squinted my eyes and checked all direction.

There, in the distance, though very small, I saw some structures.

Might be a city or a town. Thinking so I moved in that direction.

The only problem is, the foliage is gone so we cannot hide properly while moving and it is becoming darker and darker very fast.

But I continued to move while being vigilant.

After moving for another hour, I clearly saw that about 700 meters away, there was a wall, built in circular shape and what lay beyond it was a city.

The water stream which we were traveling along with, is going around the wall and forming a moat.

I could see the houses and streets inside the wall from here since we were a little upstream and at a greater height.

But the visibility is not much because its almost sunset. I should hurry.

Continuing my walk for about 15 more minutes, I was about 30 meters from the gate of the city.

I was now walking on a gravel road that seemed to be coming from east.

There was a huge gate on one side of the wall.

The door were wooden and were open towards inside.

In there I could almost see the silhouettes of some people carrying some torches like devices, that were giving faint white lights.

The sun has set and it is dark now. But thankfully I have reached safety. Probably.

They did not notice me at all, even though I was just 2 meters away from the gate (maybe due to my skill).

So I decided to shout.

" Hello! Anybody there. Can you help us please, I have a sick child with me."

Commotion started and two silhouettes came out in the front from the gate.

Will they understand my language?

Two men came in wearing armor and carrying spears. They stood in front of me.

"Usta malafula pica (purpose)?"

"Pocoa mila chasa? (kid)"

Nope!. They are talking in entirely different language.

But I can somewhat make out that they first asked the purpose of coming here and seem to be asking about the girl.

Now that I think about it, my scan gives information to my brain in English.

But these people don't speak English.

Because I think the skill is just transferring data to my brain directly which is then comprehended by me in English somehow.

But how should I talk to them.

I know that my skill can somewhat tell me what they are talking but I don't think these soldiers will have such skill.

So how will I talk. Lets try with some gestures.

Since the soldiers are carrying a white lantern like object, we can see each other.

"I came from forest and this kid was attacked by goblins"

"goblins? Usta mila goblins(where)"

"Lipa usto cacasa(language)"

I was talking while making gestures. The soldiers seem to have understood the word 'goblin' atleast. So that means goblin is called a goblin in all language.

That means maybe some words may be same. Especially proper nouns.

Lets keep trying to explain.

Although they seem to be complaining about my not speaking their language but I have to try.

"can you let us enter please. These child is sick and needs to see a doctor, potion, treatment, fever, cure anything you can understand, please."

I just spoke all words that are related to treatment, so that they can understand that the girl needs doctor.

Then the guards started discussing something.

From what I can understand, they seemed suspicious that I was not speaking their language.

But one of the soldier seemed to have understood that the girl in my hand was sick.

After discussing something, one of the soldier went back inside the gate while the other stood in front of me, clearly vigilant.

Some time after that 3 more soldiers came.

What should I do? Will I get thrown in jail for being a spy or something. Should I run?

One of the soldier who came, was a female who was clearly dressed in much dignifying clothes.

She wore a fluffy white skirt like armor. Although she was wearing a helmet so her hair were covered, but she had a beautiful feminine face.

The woman knight talked to others about something related to goblins and the girl in my hand.

Then she came towards me and pointed her palm towards me and chanted something-

" Josephina Mila (goddess) langua jasta (pray), Kuka timo (convert) bastua mishla (thoughts)"

Then a blue light started to shine around her.

Me and she, started glowing pale blue. What is this?, What is going on?

I looked at myself and then at the lady knight, who was along with her beautiful face, white dress armor was now glowing in pale blue light.

I would have fallen in love with her if not for this tense situation.

During all this the other soldiers were keeping their spears ready.

So the tension was high but I wanted to quickly help the girl.

Then someone spoke in my mind. I would have panicked if it was my first time but such thing had already happened to me when I met the Goddess so I remained calm.

(Hello? Can you hear me?...

Where did you both come from?...

Who is this person you are carrying? Were you attacked by goblins?)

Thoughts flowed into my brain.

This might be telepathy magic. Well I had figured as much.

But to think that such a convenient thing was there and could be used so easily with only a few lines of incantation.

How does it even work with different language?.

Maybe the thoughts are converted into English by my brain, just like my scan skill.

(Hello? Can you not hear me? If you are listening, just think about the answering me and we will be able to converse)

When I did not respond in my mind, the lady became a little distressed and told as such.

Should I say the famous lines like 'before asking me who I am, you should introduce yourself first'. Haha, just kidding. Lets not make her wait.

(Yes. I can hear you Miss. I came here from the forest in that direction...

This girl is someone I saved from goblins on my way...

She has fever and needs help immediately. Can you please let us in...

I also have some money, if it is required to pay entrance fee or for her treatment.)

She thought we were kids.

But when I replied in such a way, she became vigilant.

(First tell me who are you and which country do you come from?...

These men here say that you speak unknown language.)

What should I say. Maybe the standard lie in the novels, may work here

(Oh, I am Ray. I was with my guardian till now, but they decided to send me to a town to experience the world and I donot know any other language than what I was taught since I was a child...

But during my travel through the forest, I found this girl being kidnapped by goblins...

And I ended up rescuing her.)

I decided to speak in such a way that I donot speak any lie, just in case.

I thought of Goddess as my guardian and rest of what I told was also truth in a way.

I am wary that since she can do telepathy maybe she might have a lie detector magic or such device.

"Hmm..."

"Uh..."

The lady knight was thinking of something but the girl in my hands leaked a pained moan.

Seeing this, the knight's face became panicked.

She came closer to me and put her hand on the girl's forehead.

The soldiers around me became more alert and vigilant.

After touching the forehead of the girl the lady knight said something to the knights and then talked to me.

(its not a convincing story, but I cannot make this child suffer any longer...

You will be granted permission to enter but we will accompany you to the doctor...

After that you will stay at the guard station. And no need to worry about entrance fee.)

Clearly conflicted between her duty and feeling of empathy, the knight decided so.

After that she told me to follow her to the doctor. The telepathy magic has been broken and there is no glow of light on us.

I miss that mysterious connection with her already. LOL.

Because I am somewhat safe now, my mind is making these jokes.

Now that I think about it, I did not scan anybody.

Everything till now was so hectic that I was loosing my bearings.

No, that's not the only reason. I was nervous because of my social anxiety and because it has been a while since I interacted with people and on top of that a beautiful lady knight.

Lets start with the lady knight.

Philia-san, hmm.. what a nice name and she is so young.

Even though she is just eighteen, she seems so mature.

Maybe it's due to her style. She is about 5 feet 6 inches tall.

Also since she has a surname, I guess she is a noble.

Rest of the soldiers had no surname and their age were between 16 and 30. All people seem young here.
