Chapter 26:
Will the worthless salaryman find his worth in another world?
Chapter 26
Study session with Onee chan
I bid farewell to Nyxia san.
While leaving, she teasingly asked me how I knew Mary san, and if she was my girlfriend
but I just told her that she just helped me when I came to the town and brought me here just to introduce me to a good shop.
On the way back to the guild I did an errand at the Hermit Heritage (H&H) magic tool shop. This was related to Philia san's departure tomorrow.
As I was on the way to the guild, the tower bell rang.
That means that it was 6 pm now.
So I rushed back to the guild. I immediately reached the guild and entered.
When I looked at the counters Tina san was not there.
I got a little worried that I might have missed her since I was late.
But then she came from the backrooms and her uniform was changed to casual clothes.
I waved a hand at her. Other receptionists were also leaving, it seems.
Does the guild only works till 6. To answer my question, I saw that a new staff had already taken over the shift.
Surprisingly the working hours are not that strict in this world and they even work in shifts.
Do they have labor laws or something in this world too.
Tina san came towards me and I connected to her using telepathy magic.
(Hello, Onee chan, are you finished with your work ?)
(Yes follow me)
(Ok)
I just followed her as she got out from the guild.
I could feel that other receptionists were giving curious looks to us but I ignored and went after her.
She kept moving without looking back and we crossed many streets on the way.
I don't know where she intends to take me but for now, let's just follow her quietly.
We came to an area with lots of houses. Maybe this is the residential district.
Meanwhile I was identifying people on the way.
Most of the people in the adventurer's district were of level between 15 and 25, except for the shopkeepers.
Whereas, here in this district they were between 10 and 20.
I didn't see anybody higher than Tina san.
There maybe someone on first floor or higher floor of adventurer's guild who has even more higher level than Tina san but lets not worry about them now.
She then stopped in front of two story house of about 60 meter square area.
It looked like a house for family of four.
She took out a key from her bag and opened it, then she went in leaving me behind.
What? Is this her house? Is she inviting me here,
or did she want to get something and then go to somewhere like a café to teach me? I am really confused.
After about 5 minutes she opened the door again and peeked outside and stared at me.
(What is it Onee san?)
(Onee chan, and why did you not enter?)
(You mean I should come in this house?)
(Yes)
(Is this your house, Onee chan?)
(Of course)
She said with a little pride while puffing her chest a little.
I then entered the house saying 'pardon my intrusion'.
The inside was a western style house.
There was no space to remove shoes and she did not remove her shoes either.
So I just dust my shoes on the mat and entered.
She went towards the living room area where a sofa was kept and gestured me to sit.
Seriously what is wrong with her. In morning she refused to even reply properly and now suddenly she invited me in her house.
I just hope she isn't living alone right. Being alone with a woman is nerve wreaking for me.
I sat there and she went somewhere.
I took out the booklet she gave me in the morning and kept it on the table that was lying there.
The house is quite beautiful. The light blue colored walls are calming and the decorations are minimalistic but very esthetic.
Tina san came again carrying two cups in a tray. She then put the cup in front of me and sat on the adjacent sofa near me.
" Das vita" (Thank you)
I said thank you in common language which I have already learnt.
I am feeling nervous being alone with her in this house.
I drank the content of the cup. It tasted like milk tea. It was quite delicious.
Tina san too drank her tea quietly. After finishing the tea, I decided to talk because I was getting nervous.
(Onee san, about this booklet...)
(Open the first page)
I opened the book as she said and then she started explaining everything.
(See this, this is the basic description of what the guild is...
This guild is basically a private organization that is spread across 5 kingdoms that follow teachings of the sage Meru...
Other kingdoms have their own versions of guild but, our guild card and rank will not be valid there and vice versa...
Guild basically employees people who can fight, for various quests.
Guild receives commission from the reward...
We also receive support from the kings of the five kingdoms of Meru alliance...
In return we make it mandate for adventurers of C rank and above to do emergency quests for the kingdoms...
Adventurers are not mandatory to participate in war and they may do so on their own risk...
The second page here is about the history of guild and who created it...
This you can read in your free time after you learn how to read...
The third page here tells about the ranks of adventurers and the type of quests they can take...
The ranks go from A to F and for parties it is calculated by the average rank...
You can take quests of your own rank and one rank below...
The fourth page tells about promotion of rank...
Promotion is based on number of quests completed and their ranks...
But for rank C and above a test is to be cleared on every promotion...
The fifth page is about the penalties and rules and regulations to be followed...
Basically a fight between adventurers is completely on them unless common people get involved...
The guild will not interfere in such conflicts unless it caused commotion or damage to life or property...
In case adventurer causes any harm to common people or property or creates commotion, he will be judged by the laws of the nation and a separate penalty may be imposed by the guild...
The penalty may be monetary or suspension, demotion etc...
Also in case of non completion of request the penalty is already mentioned on the quest form separately...
Adventurers are required to complete atleast 3 quests in one month till they are B rank...
Otherwise they could be demoted or expelled depending on circumstances...
You can read the more detailed rules later yourself. This much is sufficient for now. Hyuuuuuuuf.)
Wow I did not know she could talk so much.
Although she skimmed over it quite fast but she covered all of the important points and doubts.
She is good at teaching. Also she kept making weird howling noises in between.
There were many things that need to be looked into, like the Meru sage and 5 kingdoms that follow his teachings.
But for now this much is enough.
(Yes I understood this much very well, thank you Onee chan...
I also wanted to ask, if there is a library or a reference place to know about the monsters, and what to collect after killing them , also about the herbs and such.?)
(There is. A library near the city Centre, but it costs money to enter...
Guild also has a reference room and its free.)
I think that is all I wanted to know for now.
But why did she bring me here for only this much.
I mean she was free at the guild right.
She could have explained it there too.
And if this explaining is not an official job of receptionist, then how do other illiterate adventurers register.
Because I am sure this world does not have a very high literacy rate right?
So how do they read the booklet. Or is it that I am the only illiterate weird person here.
Come to think of it, the adventurers at the guild were reading the quests posted on the boards just fine.
So did she bring me here to prevent people from thinking that I am weird person who needs to be explained about the rules.
Maybe. But I don't know right now.
Well anyways, that helps a lot, but first thing is I have to learn how to read.
While I was thinking so Tina san started writing something on a page and then handed it to me.
I took it and saw that on one side of the page were some symbols, about 30 in number and on the other side were numbers from 0 to 9 in roman letters.
(Is this the alphabets and numbers used in common language)
(First practice to write these. After then come again.)
Seriously, she will do that for me. it costs money right.
But let's not act as a cheap person and try to learn without worrying about it.
She then taught me how each alphabet sounded and I tried to remember them carefully.
After that I tried to give her money for teaching me rules as well as alphabets.
But she only took the one for the rules.
She said that, the other part was her own doing and had nothing to do with the guild's work. So it was free.
Maybe I have found another one. The angel species. Why are the people so nice to me in this city.
Or is this whole world made of kind hearted people.
I am at loss as to how to respond to this kindness.
I even rudely thought of her being weird.
I am sorry!. I got up and bowed ninety degrees.
(Thank you so much Onee chan. I will never forget this kindness.
I will be sure to repay you somehow.)
(1 gold coin) ~Tina san
What!
(kidding, come again if need help) ~Tina San
Her jokes are not funny at all, because her face is sleepy and serious.
I again bowed and left the house after saying goodbye to the sleepy angel.
She has a stable job and a house. Maybe she can be my sugar Mommy if I ask her nicely. Just kidding.
