Chapter 43:

Classmates

I’m Taking Revenge for My Murdered Classmates Using Weapons Made from Their Souls

Since I began reporting directly to Charlotte, I hadn't met up with my classmates.

It was the first time in over a year that we had gotten together, but no one paid any attention to me. Fair enough. They had bigger things on their minds right now.

"Finally! The moment we've all been waiting for!"

Katagiri, the head of the student council, shouted at the top of his lungs.

"If we defeat the evil outlaw who killed his classmates and turned them into weapons, then we can go home, right?"

"Yes, of course. That's precisely why I summoned you, my dear Saviors."

She's lying. Charlotte's full of deceit.

I learned that firsthand from spending time with her.

"Yes, we can finally go home!"

"This past year has been rough as hell."

"Mmm, instant ramen...I can't wait to eat instant ramen."

While my classmates babbled excitedly, I alone remained unmoved.

I'd seen the outlaw fight through my telescope; what I witnessed was far removed from what a human was capable of.

It was a mistake that my sheltered classmates who had no experience fighting in the real world were even trying to challenge him. They wouldn't stand a chance.

Why then, did Charlotte look so hopeful?

What on earth was she expecting to happen?

"Let me go first, Katagiri. I'll turn myself invisible and sneak up behind him."

Kageno was one of the people who never stood out in class, and his skill was perfect for surprise attacks.

"No! Why would you play dirty like that?! We're heroes!"

"But—"

"We'll begin the battle once we declare war, fair and square. If he surrenders, we won't harm him. We're not advocating violence, you hear me? We're here to mete out justice!"

Seriously? This was no time to be idealistic.

Katagiri was clearly out of touch with reality.

"Platoon, march forth! Justice will now be served!!"

Katagiri activated his skill and spurred everyone on. Hearing his voice gave you strength and more than doubled your combat power.

My classmates roared in response to Katagiri's rallying cry.

The castle gates opened, and we set out in determination.

"Don't die."

Charlotte whispered in a voice only I could hear.

"Try and make it back alive so you can report to me again."

The march to our death had begun.

"We shall now take you into custody! Any sudden movements will be regarded as a sign of hostility—"

"Extend, 'Kotaro.'"

The long spear named "Kotaro" pierced Katagiri between his eyes in a flash, and he perished before he could finish his sentence.

My classmates screamed as he collapsed, spattering blood everywhere.

How did they expect to fight this monster when they were already freaked out by this?

Most of my classmates tried to escape without so much as using their skills.

The outlaw took out a bow gun and began ruthlessly shooting my classmates in the back.

"Skill number ten is 'Kotaro,' a long spear that can be lengthened. It can be extended over 20 meters."

I observed the outlaw from the very back and muttered under my breath.

"I've confirmed another skill. Number eleven: the bow gun 'Eiko' with the 'shining arrow' skill. Anything it hits melts and disappears in a flash of light."

One by one, my classmates got hit by arrows and melted away.

The path before me cleared, and my eyes met with the outlaw.

He appeared to remember me, and he tapped above his right eyelid as if to ask why I was still alive.

"Why don't you try shooting me again?"

I sensed the outlaw smirk at my reply, even though his expression didn't actually change.

The outlaw raised his right arm and pointed the bow gun at me.

However, before he could shoot, his arm got torn off and sailed through the air.

"Oh. That's where you were."

The outlaw said, not seeming to care about his torn-off arm.

So she'd borrowed Kageno's invisibility skill using "Rental Shop."

Charlotte gradually came into view, wielding a sword that she'd used to slice off the outlaw's arm.
