Patroclus and Achilles;
One to heal and one to wound;
Through spear and arrow impaled;

One gone right in time for the other to go too soon.

Desperation turned Patroclus’ advice into pleas and wails,
because of his partner’s pride, it was to no avail.

Healer’s choice to avoid defeat came with a cost;
the warrior paid for his insolence with his dearly beloved lost.

Ashes intermingled, their fates once intertwined,
forever never single, the starcrossed lovers’ stars aligned.
With the muses’ blessing, in art, their romance thrives,

for a myth about the strongest love

is a story that survives.
