Chapter 24:

Reunited

Beasted

The daybreak finally came. Patty was eager to leave this forest and eat something after two days of literally starving. Her stomach was growling louder, than a werewolf. Romulus felt bad for her, he wasn't hungry, yet. Since he can keep up longer periods of time without food.

They were walking slowly, since Patty had no energy. A cliff stopped their progress. Romulus was thinking and decided to look around, figuring out a path up the hill. Patty sat down on a rock sticking out of the ground to take some rest. She noticed a specific familiar eyeshine glowing blue and green between the foliage. Her eyes sparkled with joy. She stood up and slowly made her way towards it.

Zeev smiling together with Miro came out of the bushes, relieved seeing Patty healthy and alive. Romulus shot out of nowhere towards her yelling. "Be careful! I sense danger!" Swiftly he turned into his werewolf form standing tall in front of her for protection. Zeev shocked after he spotted him screamed too. "Run!" And he also turned into a werewolf, with him Miro as well.

Both sides were angrily growling at each other. Zeev was a full-grown werewolf, but that size difference was enormous. Romulus was two times bigger, than a regular werewolf. Patty collected her last energy to jump between them, so nobody gets hurt. "Stop! Both of you! Please, change into a more talk... fitting form."

Miro snorted at her request and Zeev snapped at him with his teeth. Romulus shook off his werewolf form standing naked with his arms crossed glaring at them. Patty facepalmed. After Zeev and Miro obliged too, all men dressed back into clothes. "So you were the one I was smelling on her."

Zeev pulled Patty behind him soon after. Romulus reached out, but Miro got between them all, staring at him from downstairs. He was the shortest of all of those men. That made Romulus aggressive. Patty once again stopped the situation from escalating. "Please, don't fight. Everything is okay, I am okay and here my friend Romulus is not an enemy."

Miro jumped into her. "Do you even know, who you pointing at and calling him a friend? He is a disgrace. He kills his own kind. Did you know that?" Confused she looked at Zeev. He slowly nodded. Then her gaze turned to Romulus, who was now avoiding her eyes. "Is it true?... Romulus?"

He took a deep breath. "Yes, it's true... but I was only killing those, who flew out of the handle. I needed to keep hunters out of my territory, so they wouldn't find me. But when some disturbance happened, I had to get rid of it. That is the only reason, why I killed my own kin."

Patty realized something. "So that night, you appeared, because you were hunting again for your own?" That meant he was after Zeeve and he got into this mess, because of her. "Then you should kill me, because I am the whole reason for this problem. The reason, why hunters appeared."

Romulus stared at her with wide-open eyes. Zeev jumped into the conversation. "NO! I am the reason, because I killed those hunters and also those people..." Patty snapped at him. "Yes, but because of ME!" Romulus whole heartly proclaimed... "I could never... hurt you..." Miro rolled his eyes on them. He wasn't really a fan of Patty and agreed that she is the troublemaker. Also, he would prefer, if Zeev would stick to his own kind for the choice of a mate.

Patty slipped to the ground out of exhaustion. "I hope now... just to keep the peace and go back to the village. We were already on the way..." Zeev glared at Romulus. "I don't think so... Actually you were heading deeper into the forest. The village is that way." He pointed with his finger in the opposite direction.

Patty looked puzzled at Romulus. He fidgeted with his hands. "I... I wanted to feed her first... the path to the village is still long... and also quite arduous. There is a small cabin up on the cliff... and there is food inside..." Zeev cut him off. "I am sure you had some different... evil plans with her. Didn't you?"

Patty stopped him with her hand. "If Romulus says so, I trust him. Thank you for thinking about my well-being." Romulus showed a slight smile on his lips, but inside of his head, he knew, he was saying just half of the truth. Zeev turned towards Miro. "Pass me my sachet, please." He had there some fruits and water for Patty. He expected her to be hungry, so he brought some.

With a serious tone in his voice, Zeev warned Romulus. "This time, I let you go, but keep your distance from my mate. Next time I won't be so nice to you." Romulus kept his cool and was somewhat snarky with Zeev. "Your mate? Well, now she doesn't smell like one. She is drenched in my sweat and scent."

Zeev was furious. "We are leaving!" He grabbed Patty so swiftly into his arms, she didn't even have the chance to say goodbye to Romulus. With a sad look on his face, he was watching them fast disappear between the trees.

At the cabin, Romulus was sitting at the table reflecting about these past two days. Thinking how he changed the first plan into another and another, as the time passed. Patty changed the whole point of his view about the world and life. Experiencing new feelings and impressions.

At first, he wanted to kill her. As soon as he smelled Zeev,... another werewolf, he wanted to use her as bait. Later he tried to help her to get back into the village, for helping him. At last, he let go of his childish and selfish wishes. He wanted to take her to this exact cabin and keep Patty captive. Making her HIS mate.

He was angry at first for Zeev to appear, but now he was kind of thankfull, because he wouldn't be any better, than those lab rats at the government facility, who kept him as a prisoner.
