The choice between a sniper and a shotgun

Its 10 am already and the last thing I need to do before leaving is buying a magic tool or wand for mid-tier light magic and to inform Tina san at the guild that I would not be taking the quests for some time.

I don’t think she will notice me missing but it’s still polite since I owe her so much.

Also if possible, get a chance to meet Barnabus san.

Charlotte san might have already gone by now otherwise I would have liked to ask a few more things from her too which I forgot to ask yesterday.

I rode my horse Ashwood to the magic wand shop. I have already bought some food for my horse too, but he would have to do with the wild grass for the rest.

I also got some side bags for him too, so that I can load somethings if needed.

All I have now is 28 gold. I entered the shop in hope that the wand I need will not be too expensive.

The manager (probably) lady with the glasses and suits welcomes me.

Surprisingly her name is Leila Brook. She must be the daughter of Wilbert Brook who I met yesterday. Anyways, I ask her if she has mid tear light magic attack wands.

She nodded and ordered a clerk to handle the reception work in her place and took me to a different section herself.

This time it was quiet in the back and there was no other clerk handling this section so she herself started showing me the products.

She told me that unfortunately due to rare nature of mid tear light magic stones, the tools were expensive and did not have large number of choice.

I told her to show me cheapest ones first so that I would get the idea of the price.

The cheapest ones were ofcourse single spell types. Although she said the variety was less, there were still many to choose from.

Laser shot, luminous fountain, photon beam, infra flash, Gamma beam. These were just from the attack types.

There were others too like x ray scan, infra scan, rainbow wall etc. that were detection and shield type.

But I don’t think something like a rainbow wall can stop a vampire. Maybe it can but I just don’t want to waste my money on something like a defensive type wand.

I can’t even be sure.

If only I could have tested it on someone before buying. And of course it would not be Charlotte san. That would be definitely abusive.

I asked their price and all of them were above 25 gold coins.

The thing about light magic stone is that low level ones are so cheap that everyone can use light magic tools like lanterns but mid tier and high tier become very rare and expensive to obtain.

I scanned all of them. Some of them were B grade items and some were C grade. My rock bullet wand is a C grade item even though it’s a lower tier magic wand.

But I think it’s just on the boundary of lower and mid-tier because most of other low tier wands were D grade.

Anyway according to my scan, the one with maximum Magic ATP that is attack power is Gamma beam.

Then comes infra flash and then laser shot then photon beam and last is luminous fountain.

But I think luminous fountain is an area effect magic with a wide range so total damage would be more.

The thing is I am not sure if a particular spectrum of light weather it is Gamma or infra would be effective on vampires or not.

But I do know that sunlight that falls on the planet is very effective and the part that enters the atmosphere the most is visible part and infra.

So the safest choice is infra flash since its second best in attack power too.

So I asked the clerk if it was possible to test fire the wand.

The clerk said while it was not possible to have me test fire one since they could not disclose the magic spell to anyone before buying, it was however possible for me to witness its working from afar while a clerk from shop fires it.

They would of course be quite far away from me so that I could not listen to the chant.

I asked her to do so. Then she took me to their test fire area and one of the clerk fired the infra flash in front of me.

What came out of the magic wand was a conical reddish yellow flash of light that travelled about 15 meters at max and faded.

It spread wide as it moved. This one is a close range weapon. It works like a shotgun.

Should I take this or should I go for a long range snipe type for light magic too. I don’t know. What should I do?

Even the activation time was slow. But that might be the person’s poor mana manipulation because according to my scan the SAT or Spell activation time is just 500 milliseconds.

That is half a second. So it can’t be that slow.

If I want a long range one, then Gamma beam would be perfect one shot sniping type since it has high damage.

But I am not sure that it would work on vampires or not. Shall I trick question the manager about it.

But she seems smart and may become suspicious. Moreover, she is the daughter of that man. But I don’t have a choice here.

“Is mid-tier light magic harmful to humans or other races.”

“No, most of them just cause temporary vision impairment but I would not recommend you to fire it on someone’s face as they might go blind permanently….

Oh! And keep them away from Vampires, Dauphins and likes. It is definitely not safe for them.”

“Really and what about this infra flash and Gamma beam one?”

“They are the most dangerous to be exposed to for any race. They cause internal damage and burn the skin too.”

Uhuh, yeah internal damage, that might be related to the penetration aspect of gamma rays.

But if they damage cell, wont the vampire fail to regenerate quickly. Because the basic of their regeneration is their cells, right?

If I fire them at their head and their brain cells become damaged, wont they just die. Since they cannot regenerate their heads.

Basically it’s the neurons that give the orders to other cells when to regenerate and if they themselves die, the vampire dies.

So gamma rays can help me do that. Now I want both these wands. It would be perfect combination for fighting multiple vampires at close range and sniping single vampire from a distance.

But unfortunately I don’t have that much money.

So will it be the gamma ray or the infra flash. Well I think Gamma ray can even work at short distance since the cool down is 5 second for it so I can maybe manage 2 vampires if I fire it in conjugation with rock bullet.

And it’s not like the infra flash has that much spread at short range. There is no saving me if one vampire attacks my flank while the other is in front.

So I decided to go with Gamma beam magic wand. It was the most expensive one since it is a B rank item with most damage.

But another problem came upon me. The manager said that the wand was 30 gold coins and she said that it was not negotiable.

She said that the Grade C light magic stone used in it, costs 5 gold coins in itself.

Now I had to get two gold coins from somewhere and if I do a mission today, then it would delay my departure by another day.

I cannot do that. Is there some other way? Think man think.

Oh yes the rings the 2 rings I kept from the dead people so that I can give them to their families.

But should I really sell them and will they really give me 2 gold. I scanned the ring and the gem on them seems to be rare emerald.

“Can I keep some item as mortgage for 2 gold….

Actually these rings here I have to give them to someone but since right now I really need that wand so I was thinking if it was possible to keep these as insurance in place of 2 gold and I would come and pay you 3 gold instead and get back these rings….

How about it?”

Saying that I placed the two rings on the table.

Although I know this place does not deal with rings so it was quite the brazen request but that is all I can do now. I am very desperate here and short on time.

I don’t want to waste any more time.

The manager lady seems from a high society as she is daughter of a noble.

So she would definitely be interested in pretty jewelry and I think this could work.

She thought for some time and after examining the rings, she answered.

“Though they seemed to be silver rings with emerald in them, I need to examine them carefully….

But are you sure? Each of these can easily go up to 6 gold coins.”

“That is all I can do. But please if you could give me a period of atleast 1 month before selling them, so that I can collect 3 gold coins, that would be helpful”

“Well we don’t do this kind of thing but since the section chief told me to take special care of you, I will accommodate you on this.”

Section chief? Is it her father, the dandy old man at the magic tool shop. Since when was he after me anyways.

Looks like I was being under someone’s surveillance without me even knowing.

Leila san the manager here, then went somewhere and bought a tool to examine the gem stones.

After confirming that they were indeed quite good quality emeralds, she told me that she agreed to the deal.

Finally the Gamma beam magic wand was mine.

It was black in color with green lines running across it from its base. The handle was leather and the stone was fitted inside the handle just like my stone bullet wand.

This wand was quite cool as compared to the simple brown stone bullet wand.

According to the lady, the wand could fire about 30 Gamma beams before needing a change of magic stone and the stone it uses is that from either a C rank water based monster called Angler megadon or a C rank grassland monster luminous stag.

Incidentally the abundantly available E rank magic stones that have high percentage of light magic are from insect called night flies that are very abundant in labyrinth as well as outside in hyper-mana zones.

But those are only good for simple lamp or torch magic tools.

But the thing is the E rank magic stone cannot be used in a gamma beam wand.

Maybe the magic circle connection possible in E rank stone might be very less so they could not be connected to magic circles required for gamma beam.

I did not tell her to test fire the gamma beam because I don’t want to waste even a single shot here.

I will test it on the way on a goblin or something and I don’t think I would be able to see its effect on a nonliving object anyways.

I don’t know how she allowed to test the infra flash given that each shot was so expensive. It’s all because of that white haired noble.

I hope Gamma rays don’t scatter and cause harm to people using it or near the impact place.

I asked that to the clerk and she said that the magic has been in use for over 100 years and enough experiment had been done to tweak the magic in the wand such that the impact was only on the target and not anywhere else.

As expected of the high end magic tool.
