Chapter 1:

Reptilian Hunt - Cold-blooded Mercenaries

"It's the gem! I found it! Elgon, I found it! Finally!"

The area was plagued by a sweet and strong smell.

"It's already the fifth time you claim to have found it. It's impossible for such a thing to be lost in the middle of nowhere."

"All the more reason! What better place to hide a treasure than in the desert itself?" He hissed proudly, "Ha, I must be a genius!"

He poked the pink object with the tip of an arrow and was disappointed to see a drop of green blood emerge. The sweet smell turned into a sour one.

"It's a corpse."

"I told you," said a voice too nasal to be human. "Wait, what's a corpse doing here?"

"Some Glider must have eaten it in half."

"No, I don't think so. The blood would have gone down the side... Pink jewel, blood... It's a Sizzla!"

"Yeah, well, I don't care."

The hissing voice trailed off until he heard the nasal voice's proposal.

"What if it had the Pink Gem in its inventory?"

The hissing being approached at full speed and began to dig with all his might around the pink spot.

§

That had been a very strange dream. Goddesses, Cherubim, reptiles. Lebe simply wanted to sleep a bit and wake up later. She also felt like eating something substantial and was tired of rats.

All she could smell was dirt and blood. What was so strange about that? Nothing.

"May luck protect the next one that crosses me," she thought, totally tempted and with an empty stomach.

Suddenly, the smell of raw meat reached her nostrils.

§

"Ah! Help me, get her off of me!"

The being with the nasal voice watched as the two snakes tangled their tails and stuck out his elongated tongue to separate them. Not only could he not, but he was also caught in the middle.

"I'm going to bite you!" the one with the hisses threatened.

"Not me, idiot!" shoted his companion with difficulty.

"Not you, idiot! Her!"

"No wait!" He managed to get his tongue out of the way and get out of the mortal embrace, "I think I have it!"

The one with the nasal voice took a dead rat out of his companion's bag and, with his long, sticky tongue, swung it around as hard as he could.

However, the mouse never touched the ground. As soon as it passed over the two snakes, the one with the grazed chest jumped like a spring and swallowed it whole midair

The two men composed themselves and surrounded the hostile snake on both sides until...

"Aaahhh! My arms! Where are they!?"

Both reptilian beings stopped dead. A chuckle escaped from the being with a nasal voice; The other began to cry and choked on his own saliva.

"Are you retarded?" He asked, broken between coughs and tears. "Sizzlas don't have arms."

"Who doesn't have what?"

"He hit his head," concluded the one with the long tongue. "No idiot forgets his own body."

"Who are you calling an idiot? No food insulted me like that in my life!"

"And who do you call food? No, more important. What kind of savage thinks about eating other Scalies?"

Lebe closed her eyes, took a deep breath, opened them and analyzed the situation. Many things were happening at the same time and her brain couldn't keep up.

Let's see, I'm in a desert. I was near a jungle. Afterwards, those meals there are very big and they are speaking to me. Something clicked. Food, jungle, desert, snakes... She looked down and realized that she could turn her neck, which by the way was very long. No, it can't be all neck.

"I've never been a neck, I had arms and legs!" Oxygen reached her brain and she remembered the most important thing. "It wasn't a dream..."

§

After a couple of difficulties in the conversation:

"Maybe she's lying. That or she's retarded" speculated the one who looked like an albino chameleon.

"Impossible, her pheromones don't lie," replied the cobra with his arms crossed.

"One thing doesn't take the other. Fools aren't stupid because they want to."

"Hey, if I were stupid I'd surely love myself a lot," Lebe expressed. But forget about that. Where am I? What am I?

The two men looked at each other at the same time. Their faces were barely expressive, but the girl could deduce emotions through smell.

"We can't leave her like this."

"I know we can't, Ikziz, but we can't escape from the Gliders with someone who doesn't even know her extremities."

"He's not lying," thought Lebe, totally convinced that she was a long neck.

Ikziz put his pink cloth-gloved hands together and thought silently.

"We are not very far from the stream."

"Are you crazy? No, we have a Sentinel in between. We can't risk it."

"Elgon, tell me with complete honesty. You think there is a chance of finding Blackwing there."

"If it can be..."

"Perfect, let's go to the stream then."

"Right on."

Lebe lost a little respect for them when she saw how easy they were to convince. Then she won it back by noticing how difficult it was for her to slither compared to Ikziz. Elgon was lucky to have legs, albeit small ones.

"If what you say is true," the cobra began, "have you been able to see the Great Dragon?"

Lebe forced herself to remember her spiritual experience.

"No, only the human goddess. Although she mentioned a certain Ophidia."

Elgon quickly stuck out his tongue and tied the girl's mouth.

"Shhhh! You cannot say the name of the Great Dragon in vain!"

Ikziz closed his hand over the tip of his tongue and tried to unroll it.

"The Great Dragon is benevolent and he knows that she did it unintentionally," he stated.

"No, the Great Dragon can judge her."

"The Great Dragon only judges after death. As long as she's alive she can do whatever she wants."

"So did I get it right or not?" she interrupted.

"Yes, that's his name." Ikziz closed his other hand around his sticking tongue, "Control your pheromones, please. It's hard to breathe."

"Yes, you're going to attract Gliders."

The girl sighed and looked away from the group. The only thing that surrounded them was an endless desert and a scorching heat. The lack of rocks or bushes to hide from the sun did little to help.

I'd like to return to my world. At least in the jungle I could hide and eat.

To make matters worse, her pink, scaly belly was growling like a frightened hyena. That rat was as satisfying as an olive.

Don't I look like a snake? The pink scales were clearly real and she was afraid to turn around and see the rest of her body. No, they must be marks from sleeping in the sand.

She patiently watched the way the other Scalies moved. The small weapons that were equipped on their waists and back were kinda cute.

Tzk, who am I lying to. I am one of them.

Before continuing to drown in her sorrows, Lebe saw a shadow that passed by their side. An albatross-like bird from the human world circled above their head.

"Hey, erm... Iki. I know I shouldn't ask you for favors, but could you use that bow to kill that bird?" She pointed with her tongue, "I'm hungry."

"The what?" Ikziz turned around and his eyes widened. The air was filled with a bitter, rotten smell, "Careful! It's a Glider!"

Lebe, incredulous at his reaction, turned around and looked closely at the bird. Of course, from a distance, it seemed small. Now that it was closer, it was clear who was playing the role of prey.
