Chapter 18:

Good reviews

The Shiruka Collection

"Sir, what's wrong?" asked the aide.

"LOOK! See this online article!? It says, "Yowie Hunt just might be Shiruka's greatest masterpiece." They're praising that shit! Plus Grouping of ghosts is selling like crazy! Quick! Get Shiruka on the line!" the editor cried.

"He said he never wants to work with us again in his farewell letter."

"NOOOOOOOO!"

                                                                            ...

Shiruka smirked as he read a paper.

"Oh hey, heard your shit did well," Fumiyo mumbled as she walked by.

"Nah, 1/10 is a lousy review, but if you're coming from the so bad it's good angle, then yes," Shiruka snickered.

"Well I'm mad."

"About the Vegemite? Relax, that never made it in, though I snagged a copy of the footage those pervy guys shot of you getting smeared in that slop," Shiruka smirked as he held up a cassette tape.

"It's not that, but I'll take it," Fumiyo pouted as she snatched the tape."

"Then what is it?"

"You killed off a hot ero writer in the latest chapter of your horror manga."

"She looked nothing like you, nor was she anywhere near as perverted as you."

"But the ghosts shoved her in a vat of hot wax. I'd love to be encased in hot wax."

"I'm sure there is some place that will happily turn you into a living candle," Shiruka glared.

"Will you watch me do it?"

"No, I'd rather do research for my next manga."

"Wait, you're finishing up Grouping of ghosts?"

"Yeah, the second to last volume will be released on the 29th. Just like Six chances at Love, I completed the whole thing before weekly serialization."

"So what's different about this one?"

"It's mystery. That means I need to do some research if I really want to make some interesting cases."

"Mystery huh? Well, I'm going home to watch the tape," Fumiyo waved as she walked away.

"I wish that girl wasn't so perverted. Well guess that's one of her charms. Still won't ever date her," Shiruka thought to himself.

Suddenly, Shiruka received a call.

"Hello?"

"Is this Shiruka sensei?"

"Yes."

"I'm with television station T. We were wondering if you'd like to appear alongside other cast and production team members of Yowie Hunt for an interview on our daytime news program on February 29th at 8:30."

"Splendid. I'll be there. Do you also wish to discuss Grouping ghosts considering the second to last volume is releasing on that very same day?"

"No. Just Yowie Hunt, though we'll let you give it a shoutout."

"Very well. I have plenty more I wish to discus about Yowie Hunt anyway."

The call ended and Shiruka grinned even wider.

"I do hope the dear old editor is invited so I can roast him live on national TV," Shiruka smirked to himself.

                                                                                ...

In Australia, Niles Thorndyke finished a call with someone.

"Looks like my talent will finally be recognized. Now time to head back to Japan," Niles grinned as he began packing his things.

                                                                            ...

The editor sat in disbelief as he held the phone.

"An interview!? For that sh- show!?" he asked.

"Yes. Considering you are the producer, we wanted to let you know."

"Well are you praising it?"

"As a cult classic and Shiruka sensei work, yes."

"Well then let me attend."

"Very well, so far just you, Shiruka sensei, and the main star have agreed to be present."

The editor smiled as the call ended.

"Looks like that shit yielded some profit after all. Now time to hog the credit," he laughed.

                                                                        ...

"You're getting an interview?" Fumiyo asked.

"Yes, you're not invited though," Shieuka growled.

"Boo. I was smeared with Vegemite on set."

"That doesn't count as being part of the production committee or cast."

"Whatever. I'll just write a new book about how a hots sexy ero writer is dragged to the outback and forced to find her way home while covered in nothing but sticky Vegemite."

"So you're gonna do your own Yowie hunt?"

"Well now that you mention it I guess I'll inclyde some Yowie sex- "

"I think I might just write a season 2 script for fun just in case that dumb editor decides to commission you to write a sequel to Yowie Hunt."

"Nah, I'd refuse that. There's no way I could write something as witty as what you did. I also think it shouldn't get a sequel. It works fine as is," Fumiyo smiled.

"I wish you were more serious like this more often. Though I'll probably write a secret script anyway. Unlike you, that dumbass editor will undeniably try to milk this."

"Well no argument there. Though if he does push really hard for me to write, I might just give him my shittiest work."

"I think he'd probably be a bit more careful with you considering what you write. Though if he's insistent on it, just ask him to give you an erotic spin off of Yowie Hunt," Shiruka smiled.

"Thanks Nobuto. I'm gonna get writing. I think I'll call my latest work, Getting yaoi with the Yowie."

"Guess I'll have to read it then. Want a drink from this vending machine?" Shiruka asked.

Fumiyo said yes, and the two friends happily drank some juice boxes together as they chatted and laughed.
