Chapter 1:

What does she see?

What does she see?

She nearly transformed into a shooting star. When I found her standing on the rooftop, prepared to soar through the night’s embrace, I realized that shooting stars, once seen, never return. The initial sighting is also the final.

The rooftop was bathed in moonlight, casting a mesmerizing glow upon her figure. A sense of mystique enveloped her, as if she were a creature of the night herself. Her silhouette against the night sky was a celestial spectacle, and I couldn't help but be drawn to her like a moth to a flame.

I clung to the fragile thread of her existence, unwilling to let go. Her charming face, with its wide eyes and alluring lips, held a timeless beauty. Yet, beneath her exterior, I sensed a deeper story, a wounded soul that captured my heart. It felt like love at first sight.

She said she had just moved into the apartment, and as we talked, our connection deepened. We shared stories of our pasts and dreams for the future. I learned about her love for art and her fascination with the cosmos. Her laughter was like stardust sprinkled in the night, and I found myself falling further under her spell.

But she remained an enigma, a turbulent sea drawn by Thanatos, the seductive allure of death. Yet, whenever Thanatos called her, she extended her hand, and I would implore her to stay with me. We were trapped in an endless cycle, like the ceaseless ticking of a clock.

𝑊ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑑𝑜𝑒𝑠 𝑠ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑒𝑒?

The God of Death always appears in the form most tempting to the one seeing it. In the form of their ideal companion.

𝐵𝑢𝑡 𝑠ℎ𝑒 𝑑𝑜𝑒𝑠 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑠𝑒𝑒 𝑚𝑒!

I was not the reflection in her gaze, but an envious shadow at her feet, a constant companion as she gazed at the heavens above. I found myself entangled in the intricate web of her being, ever unsure of her true intentions.

“Goodbye.”

This marked the fourth time she had spoken this farewell. I knew she waited for me to draw her back, yet the word always sent me into a frantic spiral. As usual, I rushed back to her, and as always, she stood outside the railing, her back turned to me.

I stood behind her, wrapping my arms around her cold form, and whispered softly in her ear.

“Don’t leave me.”

“But I just want to die.”

“Why?”

“Because the God of Death is calling me.”

I couldn’t understand it; I couldn’t understand her.

𝑊ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑖𝑠 ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝐺𝑜𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝐷𝑒𝑎𝑡ℎ? 𝑊ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑑𝑜𝑒𝑠 𝑠ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑒𝑒?

“There is no God of Death!”

“Why don’t you get it…?!”

Tears welled in her eyes when I denied the existence of her deity. She wept for her one true love. But what about me? What significance did I hold for her? If I meant nothing, why did she linger with me? Why did she continue to wait for me when her God called for her?

“Is the God of Death more handsome than me?”

“No.”

“Does he love you more than me?”

“No.”

“Is he better than me in any way?”

“No.”

Then why do you only have eyes for him? I love you so much, so why can't you look at me?

“Don't look at the God of Death, look at me!”

“No!”

“What's the reason?”

“I’ve had enough of this.”

𝐼’𝑣𝑒 ℎ𝑎𝑑 𝑚𝑦 𝑓𝑖𝑙𝑙, 𝑡𝑜𝑜

“I’m tired of everything.”

𝐼’𝑚 𝑡𝑖𝑟𝑒𝑑, 𝑡𝑜𝑜.

“I just wanna die!”

𝐼…

“I just want to see you every day. I want to wake up next to you every morning and sleep beside you every night. I want to hold you every time. I want to talk to you and hear your voice every day. I want to laugh with you, sing with you, dance with you, and share every moment with you…"

Honestly, I didn't care what she saw. I didn't care if she would never truly see me because all I saw was her, and I never wanted to stop seeing her.

“I want to love you forever. So please, don't leave me.”

She turned, and for the first time, her gaze met mine. It was as if the mist that had obscured her eyes had lifted, and at that moment, I was no longer a phantom. She could finally see me.

“I love you.”

I had expressed these words countless times before, but now I knew she could see the sincerity behind them.

“I'm sorry,” she said, her voice trembling, tears in her eyes. “I'm so sorry… I… I… I love you."

I drew her closer, wrapping my arms around her, and held her tightly as the sound of her heartfelt cries echoed through the night sky.

The End.
