Chapter 1:
X/⅌-Amend
The alarm's screams pierced his ears. Clad in a scientist attire, lab-coat included, he stumblingly ran through the dark steel corridor, only illuminated by blinking red-turned lights. Behind him, the echoing sound of a man exclaiming in great pain overpowered the blaring sirens momentarily. His throat itched. He hastened his run until he reached a metal slidedoor, which took a few too-long seconds to open. It revealed a fifteen-ish person office which he flowed into, the entrance closing behind him, but not before he could turn his head to catch a glimpse of it standing in the hallway.
His panicked gaze cut across the room in search of any method of escape. The space lacked exits besides the entrance, so the only viable path to survival appeared to be hiding. He crouched beneath a desk and counted the seconds. The sound of the door sliding open signaled for him to hold his breath. It entered the room. It was humanoid, but with spider-proportioned limbs, oilblack eyes and slime-covered beastteeth that smelled rotten-eggish. The irritation in the man's throat continued to grow. The thing sniffed thrice, each time inhaling with increasing force. It crawled over the desks towards the scientist, casting a shadow over the man as it came to a standstill and looked around the room. The itching was starting to become unbearable. Spittledrops rained onto the ground below its head, the stench nearly causing the man to gag. Unable to locate the scientist, the entity retreated back towards the door, allowing the man to relax his muscles somewhat and softly breathe.
As the creature made its way out of the room, however, a terrible realization was thrust upon the man: he couldn't suppress his itch any longer. Just a few moments, he begged God, a few too-long seconds, that's all he needed. But God was cruel that day.
The man coughed, and his screams echoed through the hallways.
