The Agent of Peace

Follow me, it’s as easy as it can be.
Follow me, all it takes is one small leap.

Here we are, on the rooftop once more. Begging me to come towards the door. We have been through this cycle again and again. But, don’t you think our time with Eros should end? For years and years, we have endured their everlasting spell. Let’s break it. Let’s rebel.

You’re confused…
            I understand. It’s not easy to go against life’s plans.

After all, all living beings have one thing on their mind. That is, of course, to survive. Survival ensures the population can go on, long after we’re gone. But why do we have to follow this same design? Humans are more complex than simple bees. Being a human is suffering. Some choose not to reproduce and are met with praise. Yet there’s strife, when one chooses to end their life. It’s tiring, don’t you see? If only people could let others be.

Your eyes…
            Don't try to hide. I can see what you're thinking inside.

You’re trying to find the words, to help me see the beauty in life. To bring me towards Eros’s light. I don’t blame you. I was once ignorant too.

An argument I typically see. Is by leaving, you abandon your family. No longer to hear their calls or be there when they fall. No more feeling the warmth of their embrace or seeing their familiar, loving face. You'll no longer have a belly full of their delicious treats. Or, see your dog, cat, or other pet when they come to greet. Instead, your parents will have to bury you, when you are found. Rather, than the other way around. They'll suffer, thinking that it’s all their fault. And you won't be there to tell them that it’s not, not at all.

Can’t you see! Eros is trying to get you to stay, by having you think about your family, in so many ways. But don’t let this guilt fool you otherwise. Of course, you have the other side. Of those who did not have a warm family life. Even if you think your own family will never betray. Never forget that your family’s ideals can change. One minute they love and care, then the next they want you to leave as you bring despair.

What I’m trying to say is, don’t let your decision sway because of your family. Once you leap, there’s no need to think of such frivolous things. Just you and the endless abyss. It's freeing, isn't it?

Your lips…
          Ah, there’s no need to speak. Are you thinking about your friends, or is it society?

You should know that no matter how strong the bonds, they will eventually dissolve. After all, people grow and change. Just because you were together yesterday doesn’t mean the same for today. Very rarely do friendships transcend through time. Are you still friends with the same friends from when you were five?

But for you, it’s different, you can’t see them out of your life. They have always been there to support you, to help you strive. You say you’ll miss the hangouts, the gaming, the shopping, the dumb advice, and the fun. After all, things get boring when your friends are gone.

But remember, friendships are formed, due to a need or simple conveniency. Take one of these factors away, and soon the friendship will go astray. Never forget that friendship can change. A blessing can turn into a curse. “Friends” can make your fears and insecurities quite worse. Don’t let your life be consumed with social needs. If you leap with me, then you’ll be free.

Of course, society will chime, saying what you’re planning is a crime. It makes sense why this is so, as they are bathed in the light of Eros! But society shouldn’t dictate your choice in life, you need to break free. Do what you think is right!

Society will say you’re being unwise. That you should reach out, don’t end your life. What you’re feeling now is just a phase. That you shouldn’t make rash decisions while your mind is hazy and ablaze. To take a step back if things feel too grave. To stay somewhere else for just a few days. You should dial 9-8-8, while you can. They are there to hear you, to help you stand. Remember you’re not the first to feel this way. With time, comes change...

SO JUST WAIT!

For some, these thoughts are enough to make them sway. But they’re forgetting how life can be unforgiving day after day. It ebbs and flows, an unpredictable mess. At least in death, it’s consistent, I couldn’t ask for less.

Hmm, looking towards the sky…
            You must be thinking about the future you’re leaving behind.

But remember life is finite. In the end, everything we have done will go to waste. Within time we will all be forgotten, just like the greats. There’s no need to accomplish exceptional deeds. Buying a house, running a company, what’s the point of these needs? You want to leave a legacy before you're done. Even so, your achievements will be surpassed by the next generation. Sure you might have regrets, that you ended life early without even trying yet. That you'll never know if you would have failed or succeeded. But these thoughts are no longer needed. When you submit, there's no need for goals or promises. In death, you're free. Just you and nothingness.

Looking downwards, I see...
            Are you perhaps thinking about what will happen to you and me?

To be honest, there’s no telling what will happen next, when we embrace the nothingness. This will probably be the last we’re in each other's sights, in this cursed world of light. In the darkness we’ll both be at ease, knowing that the other isn’t left on the streets. Of course, things will be different from before, as our relationship will change forevermore.

No longer will we hear each other speak. But don’t let that thought make you freak. The days of you holding my hand will now come to an end. No more of you grabbing me tight or receiving soft sweet kisses of delight. No more hearing each other cries or laughter. Any future we imagine together will be gone, hereafter.

You’re panicking, that's alright...
            Of course, the thought of losing me gives you a fright.

But don’t be blinded by this evanescent feeling of love. Once again, it’s just Eros trying to keep you above. You should know that love doesn’t always last. After all, one of us will pass. Love, a bringer of joy, makes it easy for someone to be manipulated and toyed. Right now, our love is full of trust, but the longer we live, who knows what will happen to us. That’s why I want you to come, my oh-so-dearest love. It's time for us to be free, to become doves.

No need to be so upset...
            Allow me to introduce a god you haven’t quite met yet.

The name is Thanatos, a god who offers solace and relief. With Thanatos, we can finally achieve everlasting peace. Its goal is fairly simple, it's easy to tell. It longs for all living things to join them and escape from Eros's realm. Eros, the ruler of life, refuses to let anyone enter the night. But their power doesn't last for long. It's useless against the ole, benevolent, patient god. With Thanatos, your mind will be at ease. You'll no longer need to worry about such useless things. In the end, no matter how one tries, the void comes for everyone, so there’s no need to fight. It’s time to cut loose from Eros's hold, and instead become one with the great Thanatos.

Ah, I see.
Even though we will soon cease to be, I’m still glad our last moments are of you and me.
