Chapter 37:

What happened with Hinari

Spice of Life

After the pool incident, the girls went back to their rooms to mingle with one another in groups.

"I can't believe that happened to your mother," Zuina said as she chatted with Matcha.

"If I had known that bitch had evidence to prove her innocence, I'd have pounced on her," Matcha growled.

"I thought you said you didn't get along with your mother," Rika asked.

"I don't, but that doesn't mean I don't want to save her. Especially now that Yumeko and Fujiko are involved. It's also possible Purin might get reinstated if she's close with them."

"What do you mean?"

"Right, I only told Itsuki. Yumeko and Fujiko are the daughters of one of the salon's former employees as well as the daughters of the current superintendent general of the Tokyo metropolitan police."

"No way, so then your psycho sister might actually have the connection needed to get her a slap on the wrist!?"

"Sadly it seems likely. If that gorilla truly was with Yumeko like Itsuki claimed, it's likely Purin's on good terms with her too."

"Now that you mention it, I just remembered your sister mumbling about how a "Yumeko" needed to hurry up and babysit the gorilla."

"Then that confirms it. Though if you picked up on that, I wonder if Mochi did too. She's the genius of the family after all."

"Might wanna just ask her then, Hina said they got a room here with stock money."

"Guess I better."

"I'll come with you."

"I guess I'll go mingle with the others. Thanks for being level headed Matcha," Zuina smiled.

"No worries, I can understand why you'd be frustrated."

"I'm not mad at you, you made a sound judgement call. My employer's the one I'm upset with."

"If it makes you feel any better, I put Hinari's restored cooking license on her grave," Rika sighed.

"It does a little, but I'm still upset. If you are such a skilled killer, why didn't you just restrain her?"

"I tried to, but I messed up..."

                                                                                 ...

"Hey, are you Hinari?" Rika asked as a depressed young woman with disheveled black hair opened the door.

"Huh? YOU! WHY ARE YOU-MMPH!"

"Oi, keep it down, the neighbors will hear," Rika glared as she walked into the apartment covering Hinari's mouth.

"I'm here because I wanna help get your license back. There's a remedial-"

"OH NOW YOU WANNA GET OFF YOUR ASS AND HELP! WELL TOO LATE! I'VE BEEN THROUGH HELL AND SOON I'LL BE GOING TO HELL!" Hinari glared as she kicked over the chair she planned to use to hang herself with.

"I can get the license back," Rika sighed as she gazed at the noose hanging from the ceiling over where the chair had been.

"HOW!? I'M THE ONE THAT WOULD HAVE TO GO THROUGH ALL THAT BULLSHIT!"

"I could disguise myself as you. If-"

Hinari grabbed a dull knife and charged at Rika.

"YOU SAYING I'M NOT GOOD ENOUGH!? THEN WHY THE HELL BOTHER!?" she shouted as she jabbed the knife at Rika, whom dodged the jabs nonchalantly.

"I'm saying if I participate in secret, everyone could pass and we'd humiliate Makihara, but I'd only pose as someone that doesn't want to participate or someone with low- _!"

Rika was unable to stop her self quickly enough as Hinari's attitude worsened.

I HATE YOU! I BET YOU ONLY "WON" CAUSE YOU BECAME MASARU'S BITCH!"

"I love him and beat him with my own skills," Rika glared.

"I DON'T CARE! I'M SENDING YOU TO HELL BEFORE ME YOU ASS KISSING BITCH!"

Hinari then began grabbing jars on the counter and throwing them at Rika. The smokescreen from the flour jar caused Rika to shield her eyes as Hinari lunged for her. On instinct, Rika crouched and unleashed a kick into Hinari's abdomen which sent her flying into the air. Hinari began coughing violently as Rika tried to clear her eyes. When Rika could see again, she saw Hinari strangled to death in the noose she had originally intended to hang herself with. Rika stood in shock before shaking her head and pulling out a pair of gloves from her jacket before checking Hinari's pulse.

"Shit, I can't feel a pulse. The rope's all twisted up too," Rika glared as she tried to untangle the rope.

                                                                              ...

"Once I realized Hinari was dead, I decided to have her preserved to make it look like she'd died after the remedial exam. That way, I could disguise myself as her. It's also why I suggested that Waki undergo a drastic makeover and act like a gyaru. That way, all the focus would be on her. Makihara was right to suspect I'd disguise myself, but if he turned his attention to Waki and found out she was the real deal, his confidence would shatter a bit, and well it helped restore everyone's licenses," Rika said as she finished recounting her story.

Zuina stared at Rika before pressing her hand into her forehead.

"So you kicked her into her noose. That idiot. If she didn't hang it up, she wouldn't have died. Please leave me alone. I don't want to be disturbed," Zuina growled.

Rika and Matcha quickly let her be. When they were gone, Zuina broke down in tears.

"YOU IDIOT! IDIOT!" Zuina cried.

                                                                            ...

"I didn't know that was how it happened," Matcha said as the two walked down the hall.

"I just kicked and forgot the noose was there, or perhaps maybe my damn instincts activated because there WAS a noose there. I was taught efficient and effective ways to kill people, not save them sadly," Rika somberly stated.

"And that's why you now only kill thugs? In order to save those whom might have become their victims?"

"Yeah. I'll never erase my killer's instinct, but I can at least choose where I point my blade unlike before. You don't know how liberated I felt when I enrolled at Tabemono. For once, I wasn't ordered to fill a kill quota. Aside from the Madagascar incident, I didn't have any really bad memories of my time at school."

"What about when we were all unfairly expelled?"

"Well yeah, I was mad that you all were unfairly kicked out, but I didn't feel like I was helpless to escape my fate like before I enrolled."

"So then what happened in Madagascar?"

"I was hoping you wouldn't ask," Rika groaned.
