Aisle 13 was entirely empty and was dead quiet except for the buzzing of the harsh TL light overhead. The space felt oddly liminal. I became claustrophobic and anxious and the space started to warp and sway in front of my eyes. I tricked myself into leaving by remembering there were other items I needed to buy.
At check out, I mentioned to the clerk: “You guys should restock aisle 13; the shelves are all empty.”
He gave me a puzzled look. “Ma’am, there is no aisle 13.”
“But, I’m sure-” When I looked behind me, the aisle was gone.
