Chapter 3:

Mission

Love Takes Many Forms, One of Which is Death

Five years have passed, now Karin is 18 years old, her height has increased by 20 cm, and some of the clothes she brought from her former home are now comfortable for her to wear.

She changed her clothes to a blood-red dress that flared up on her thighs, she also wore her mother's jet black leather jacket and covered her head and part of her left body with a blood-red veil that she took from her mother's room at that time, blood-red in a harmonious colour with Karin's hair colour.

The last five years Karin has lived on the move, trying to stay as far as possible from the city where she was born, or the city where the gangsters live.

Karin learned enough how to defend herself; she went through five years of life with full challenges, especially for a girl who goes anywhere on her own.

She learned more about this world, the people in the Ethera world where she lived used the power of Mana to strengthen their self. Mana can be used to activate magical powers and also useful to fight monsters.

Karin began to learn to understand the power that is in her; she began to understand that she can use the power of Mana energy that fused into her heart in the form of Mana Core. At this stage, the heart is no longer only pumping blood, but also as a container for storing Mana energy and pumping it throughout the body through the bloodstream.

This Mana Core has several levels marked by a colour change in the energy it emits.

Purple, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. Like the colours of the rainbow, purple is the weakest stage and red is the strongest.

For Karin, she is at the Blue level, at this level Mana allows humans to do things that even the strongest normal humans cannot, such as high jumps, run very fast, lift weights that are many times their body weight or use magic.

Everyone has a different affinity as to which elements they can use. These elements consist of fire, water, wind and earth. Each element has different characteristics as well as different uses and abilities.

And Karin has a strong affinity in the wind element. Therefore Karin can use the forces that are supported by the wind element, such as increasing her movement speed, lightening her movements in battle, this power allows Karin to move more agile, jump higher and reach her opponent with one jump.

Even though there is one thing that Karin hasn't understood until now, no one can explain the power of darkness that at that time helped Karin kill three people effortlessly. None of the four elements could allow a person to control darkness or penetrate walls, at least so far that was the information she could gather.

With a job as a hunter, a popular job in this country for people who have Mana power, Karin is quite able to make herself a good food and shelter, even though Karin does all of this secretly without knowing much and being close to many people.

She only performs tasks that can be done alone, with the aim of not attracting the attention of others or being close to anyone.

Karin slowly learns the strength of the gangster organization that is the target of her revenge. They have the strength of hundreds of people with an average level of Blue Mana Core, not high enough for Karin's level, but some of them have a level above it. One Level above Blue alone can easily beat ten people with Blue rank.

Since the last three years, Karin has always spent two weeks in four months of her life visiting the city of the gangsters, eliminating some people who roam at night, then leaving again without leaving a trace, only in this way can Karin maintain her motivation to continue living.

The main target is the gangster leader and her father, who also works there, although in the last five years Karin could not even hear the news where her father was

Karin begins to learn to take advantage of her abilities, supported by advanced technology combined with Mana Core; humans can take advantage of the power of Mana in the form of sophisticated tools that can only be used by Mana Core users.

One of it is Sync Device. The silver bracelet attached to Karin's left wrist is a must-have for Mana Core users. This object serves to keep the circulation of Mana in a person's body stable, and can record all the unique abilities of Mana Core users,

For example, when Karin shouted the word "Increase Dexterity", her body would become lighter and increase her speed and agility. Karin felt that she accidentally used this power when she fled from the gangster headquarters at that time, her body felt light and was able to run very far and long, even though she only realized it later.

Five years have passed, Karin's physique has changed drastically, and she hopes this can completely cover up her past identity, her hair that was once black has also changed to blood red, perfectly matched Karin's personality who loves fighting and her body which is often covered in blood.

Also, people at this time knew Karin not as a name, but as a nickname. Crazy Goddess, that's how people call her.

January, it is time for Karin's routine plan to be carried out by her, going to a city in the southeastern part of this country and eliminating several people from the gangster organization, the Warrior Union, that's the name of the organization.

The Warrior Union is an organization that is also engaged in gathering Mana Cores from monsters and selling them for profit, just because their organization is quite large in that area, they are arrogant and treat ordinary people there at will, including buying and selling women.

Karin had been thinking hard all this time, how could she destroy the organization to its roots, only that she could not find a solution. She needed more strength; the only way was to eat away at their organization little by little until nothing remained.

A thin smile appeared on Karin's clean and snow-white face. Even though the wounds on her body haven't completely disappeared, Karin's face has become completely clean for the past five years, this increase she always feels every time she takes a monster or a person.

Would it be better if people called her the Goddess of Death? Anyone who confronts her, in the end, will not have time to think about her beauty, but about the death that will soon pick them up. The nickname Goddess of Death is more suitable for Karin. Or maybe, the Beautiful Goddess of Death?

Who knows.

---

Karin has arrived in the southeastern part of the country, this place is close to the sea to the south and east, but access is closed by high mountains and vast forests. Nearly half of this area is covered by forest, only the upper part that connects to the capital and the eastern part that faces the strait is not covered by forest and can be occupied by humans.

On the outskirts of the forest in the southernmost part, there is a small village, where Karin usually lives every time she visits the area. There is a small inn there, with a cafe serving food and drinks on the very ground floor and several living rooms on the upper floors.

This inn is usually used by Hunters who are about to or have finished their job of hunting monsters that appear in many forest areas.

Not many people live in this village, most of them leave because of frequent monster attacks on the village, only a few people still survive, just providing services to hunters or those who were born and raised here and are reluctant to move to another place.

One of Karin's goals for choosing this place was because many members of the Warrior Union organization were carrying out tasks in the forest area, there were so many dimensional door points in this place, those dimensional gates took people to another dimension, their main task was to kill the monsters inside before they grew stronger and out of the dimensional gate to invade the outside world.

A large number of teams to do Dimension exploration makes Karin entirely avoid this task. She prefers to have tasks outside the dimensional gate. These kinds of tasks were more likely to allow Karin to do it herself.

Karin entered the main door of the inn, a 5-story building. The time showed around 6 pm, approaching evening. Karin walked to the reception desk to book a room for a few days.

"Anything I can help?"

A woman greeted Karin with a smile that she seemed to have forced, it was tough indeed to maintain the mood to face the many Hunters who on average treated non-hunters as if they had a lower degree than them.

"1 room for 1 week".

"Fine, 1 Gold for 1 night including breakfast and dinner".

Karin showed her the Sync Device in her left hand, the woman in front of her attached a device to confirm payment.

The woman wrinkled her eyes,

"Huh"

"Is there a prohibition against using a nickname?"

Sync Device allows a hunter to cover up their real identity. It is protected by state law, so the receptionist shouldn't feel strange about this. Maybe she was new to this place because Karin had repeatedly booked rooms here and the name issue was never a problem.

"Oh no".

The woman replied with a smile,

"Door access has been registered in your Sync Device, you can use the room until the time limit is booked."

The woman pointed on the Sync Device on Karin's hand.

"Is there anything else I can help you with?"

"Bring me an espresso."

Karin intended to sit for a while at the cafe on this floor while waiting for the night to watch people enter and leave the inn.

"Ok, please wait".

Karin walked towards the table closest to the window, although Karin's aim was to pay attention to the people who visited this place, she prefers to pay attention to outside conditions nature is more attractive to her than humans.

Karin began to think about how she could increase her strength. Change weapons with stronger ones? Karin has very agile movements, so the Dagger is quite suitable for her who rely more on agility than power. As for protective clothing, she also prefers to wear light clothing because it makes it easier to move.

Meanwhile, to increase the quality of Mana Core, one way is to increase the number of battles with monsters with higher levels. For this reason, it is strong enough for Karin to try to join the team and do the dimensional exploration task.

The State only allows dimensional explorers to be carried out in the form of teams because the level of difficulty and uncertainty that often occurs in is hazardous if done by individuals. Even though with the level of Mana Core that Karin has, she should be able to do the tasks of class C or D dimensions easily.

Sometimes Karin feels that all the regulations made by the State don't make enough sense for her. Maybe it would be better for Karin to change countries and look for a place that is more suitable for her lifestyle, but she will not be able to do that. Because the target of her revenge lives in this country

Dack, dack

"Useless, useless. Why did you leave the loots of our hunt in the inside."

"You know how much risk I took against those monsters".

Three men surround one other man. It seemed that they were involved in a dispute over hunting loots inside the dimensional gate.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I was the last person there and there was no way I could bring all that stuff. Forgive me"

One of the three men lifted his neck collar and threw the man's body onto the floor, right at Karin, the man's head almost hit Karin's leg before Karin lifted her right leg to avoid.

They are not a member of the Warrior Union, nor was the man lying beside Karin's chair sitting, so there was no reason for Karin to get involved in their fight, Karin continued enjoying her espresso while turning her face towards the window. The sun was getting lower and lower in the other buildings in the area.

"Sorry Sorry"

The man next to her got up and lowered his head towards Karin, trying to apologize. But Karin ignored him. It would be better for the man to leave immediately and stop dealing with Karin.

Karin was still staring out of the window when three other men approached the man near Karin and started dragging the man out. Karin caught a glimpse that the man was still looking at Karin before they finally left the inn door.

'How annoying, why is he so weak.'

Karin couldn't help thinking of those who survived the purple or indigo level, only content with being a slave in the dimensional exploration. Their job is only to detect the environment in the inside and collect hunting loots while the hunters are busy fighting the monsters. Isn't that right if their job is only as a slave?

If Karin has to work as a dimensional explorer, maybe Karin will also need their power, maybe it's true that weak people like them should take shelter behind stronger people like Karin and serve her.

With that goal, Karin must try to be stronger than now, to then have more power and punish them. People who have used their power for personal gain and treated the weak at will

Is it appropriate for Karin to think like this? After she ignored other people who might need her help? Is there anything more important than herself in this world?

Of course not, Karin didn't try to defend the weak. But she only tries to defend her own life as someone who was once in a weak condition. Yes, that's right, Karin doesn't need to act as a hero whose job is to defend weak, stupid people.

There are no heroes in this world; only those who are strong and fight to defend their position. Therefore this country is divided into five regions, and each of them has its own strongest organization among which they compete more often than work together to protect the country. More precisely, they are doing the duty of dimensional explorers for the benefit they will get, more than to protect the country.

Krekkk

A man almost 2 meters tall entered the cafe, walk toward Karin, pulled the chair opposite where Karin was sitting and with a smile, he started to sit on the chair while looking at Karin with a happy expression.

"Karin Arlyn, Crazy Goddess. It is a pride for me to meet the most important person of our country in this filthy place. Let me sit here just to say hello and offer some interesting things."

Karin let go of her daydream and turned to the man who had sat quietly in front of her.

'How can he recognize my identity?'

Karin tried to sharpen her senses and began to notice that dozens of people began to surround the inn from outside fully armed and some of them possessed powers that Karin could not measure, indicating that they were stronger than her.
