Chapter 6:

You Are What?!

Tales of the Eternal King: The Heretic King Part I Winter’s Chill and a Hot Heart

Princess Kitarra looked at Rowen just blinking her eyes. She looked to be parsing what she was told in her mind.

After a couple of minutes Rowen cleared his throat and said, “Your Highness, it is an honor to meet you.”

Kitarra shook herself and said, “You can’t be a Magedi, the last of the Magedi were killed fifty years ago!”

Rowen thought, “That would have been good information to know, Guardians!”

Out loud he said, “I have been brought here from a distant land by the Guardians themselves. I don’t know what to tell you about the Magedi here. All I know is I was given this rank by Dawn herself.” And he lifted up his left hand and showed her the ring on his index finger’s knuckle.

She seemed to involuntarily step forward to get a closer look at his ring. She then reached her hand out and touched the ring and mumbled, “True tale.”

There was a brief flash of greenish light and then the princess smiled and asked, “Is this your servant?” motioning towards Jade.

“Yes, she’s my protector.”

“I have never fought anyone who could keep up with me in two handed combat.” With an admiring look in her eyes.

“Yes, and I believe she was holding back. She is…now what was that term again…oh yes, she’s a homonculus. A fusion of science and magic.”

“A golem you mean?”

“Yes and no. In my wor…land we would call her an android, but I guess golem works for all intents and purposes.”

The two of them turned to the other woman when they heard her moan.

Kitarra quickly kneeled by her side and checked her. She looked perplexed and said, “Her wounds looked healed.”

“Yes, I had Jade here heal her. I’m able to use runes and I made those sticks to cast healing magics.”

She looked at him incredulously and said, “You, a rune mage? You have no mana aura whatsoever. How can you be a rune mage?”

“Let’s just say that I am different.”

She turned back to the woman…Elf? This was the first time Rowen noticed her pointed ears. He was glad the elves here don’t look like the Japanese anime elves.

This elf woman had sharply pointed ears, but they weren’t much longer than human ears and they didn’t hang down like some anime elves.

Kitarra said, “My sister isn’t bleeding anymore. Thank you for that. But she appears to have lost too much blood. I am not sure what we can do for her but pray and hope.”

“Your sister?”

She smiled up at him and said, “Yes. When I was born, my mother passed away. She was the Duchess of Foxia. Her sister took over as Duchess, but I was then raised by Dana’s mother, Dana has been my sister for all intents and purposes for as long as I can remember.” She gently caressed her cheek.

She went on, “Dana is the First Princess of the Duchy of Eilon. How much do you know about our lands Lord Rowen?”

“The Guardians were rather short on details. Let’s say I could always learn more.”

“Right. First things first. We need to find some shelter and figure out how to treat my sister.”

“Ah, well I can help with both. Shelter first.” And he looked around and found a nice flat and level looking area.

“Jade, if you will put this over there.” He handed her the diminutive cabin and pointed where to place it. Soon, the cabin was rising into place.

All the while he was talking to Kitarra, his inner, analytical self was saying to him, “Weren’t we going to keep our title a secret?”

Consciousness, “Yeah, I don’t know why I told her.”

Libido, “That’s because she’s a fox in more ways than one. Just look at her! You know you want a piece of that!”

Consciousness, “Damn it, I thought I locked you up!”

“I knocked the door open with my…”

After unpacking his cabin, picking up and carrying Princess Dana to his bed in the cabin, he told Jade to clean her up and get her ready for more treatment.

He left the bedroom to give them privacy and he went out into the living room space and sat down on the couch, closed his eyes, and tried to work out how to give a runic “Transfusion”.

His mother was a nurse, so he remembered her talking about transfusion reactions and other complications about the process in general. However, he knew hearing her talk about the thing didn’t make him an expert in it.

He thought about the syntax and text of the healing runes and how he had worked them out as part of his dream guidance. He had developed three different levels of healing spells, level III being the strongest. The way he had worked it out was to encode the runes to tell the body to mend all wounds and injuries to the body at an extremely fast rate. Keeping in mind the rules of three he told the runes to mend all injured bones, skin and organs and to boost the body’s healing to three weeks, three months and three years of natural healing prospectively. The Roman Numeral III sticks took a long time to focus the energy into the runes and stick to create so he only made a few of those whereas he made more Roman Numeral II and even more numeral I.

Ok, following the logic of time and number of three’s he decided to create a stick which would spur the body into creating its own blood with the same perspective.

He focused and visualized the stick and worked out the runes to tell the body to develop three weeks of blood. He just hoped that that would work. He remembered his mom saying something about a patient which received too much blood and how it drove his BP up and such. Since he didn’t know how to check her blood pressure, he hoped that what he was doing wasn’t going to overload her. Then he thought, “What if I worked into the syntax which the body were to create three weeks of blood or until normal blood levels were restored?”

He opened his eyes and suddenly realized that Princess Kitarra was standing right there looking at him closely.

He jumped and said, “I didn’t sense you standing there!”

“That is because you were thinking too intensely.” She said smiling.

“Right. Okay, I think I may have a way to help your sister. Give me some space here and I’ll make a runic spell to treat her.”

“Of course.” And she moved a little bit away from him.

He focused again and brought forth the blood infusion popsicle stick.

He then stood up and looked at Kitarra who was standing there with her mouth hanging open.

“What’s wrong?”

“How did you, where did that come from?!”

“Like I said, I’m different. I just made it.”

“Pure Creation magic is third tier magic. Are you a god or a dragon?!”

“No...I’m…I’m different.” He sighed and decided. In for a penny, in for a pound. He was going to explain everything to her.

He then said, “I’ll explain everything to you but first let me treat your sister.”

“No, I’m not letting you touch my sister until you tell me everything first!” there was a fire in her eyes which made him realize that she wasn’t going to budge on it.

He sighed and said to himself, “Why not?

“Okay, here’s everything which you need to know about me…”

After explaining everything about himself and his mission, the princess pursed her lips and nodded. She looked at him in his eyes for a long moment. Her eyes looked sharp and piercing at first but then they softened and she said, “I see…yes I believe you.”

She looked over towards the bedroom and said, “Very well. I shall allow you to treat my sister.” She then smiled an almost alluring smile and said, “Why not, if you wished us harm you would have left us to the Woague.”

“Woague?”

“Yes, those boar men. Those are of the few naturally occurring Beastkin.” She then got a mischievous look in her eyes and she said, “You really don’t know anything about our world, do you?”

“Like I said, the Guardians were very short on details.”

“I’ve come to expect no less from divine beings.”

Rowen went into the bedroom and looked at Princess Dana who was very pale to ashen looking with dark circles beneath her eyes. Her breathing was fast and becoming irregular. He wasn’t sure but he knew couldn’t have been a good sign.

He then lifted up the popsicle stick and pointed the runic side towards her and broke the stick. Instead of blue flame the stick flared up into an iridescent red flame which proceeded to engulf the elf woman.

After about a minute the flames seemed to be absorbed into her body and her breathing began to slow and become regular. Her color returned to a more normal, yet still pale tone.

She opened her eyes a little and looked at Rowen. She smiled and said, “Oh, it’s you. Finally, we meet my husband.” And she seemed to fall back to sleep.

“I guess she is going to need to rest more until her blood levels return to normal.” Rowen said with a perplexed look on his face.

Meanwhile he was thinking, “I guess I must look like her husband. Wait, how can she just now be meeting her husband?” but then he decided to chock it off to low blood level delirium.

He turned to Jade and said, “Watch over her. Make sure she gets plenty of rest. We’ll feed her once she comes to.”

He then turned back to Princess Kitarra who was also looking at Dana with a shocked look on her face. He said, “You can sleep in here with her, there should be enough room for you both in the bed…” he looked closer at Kitarra and asked, “What is it?”

“My sister is a seer like her aunt. She told me on several occasions that she saw the man who she was going to marry.”

“Well maybe I resemble him or at least close enough for her low blood levels to confuse her. I won’t put any stock into it until she’s feeling better.”

“Yes, maybe so, but…” and she seemed to be chewing on something in her thoughts.

Rowen thought, “Maybe I should leave it alone, but I’m curious.”

“But what?” he asked out loud.

“But I think she’s right. You are going to be her husband.”

“Now, how can you know that? We have just met!”

“I know because she also saw that my sister and I will be marrying the same man and I just know that it’s you.”
