Chapter 6:
Vampire Lanterns
Danica couldn't believe, what she had seen just now. She ran in a wobbly way out to meet her best friend. Luka slowed her down so she wouldn't trigger Elena's prey drive. "I am aware you are happy to see your friend, just be cautious... She is right now very sensitive to everything. She might attack you."
Elena took a deep breath and turned to Luka. "Thank you for looking out for me, but I will be fine. I would never hurt my best friend..." Luka looked into her eyes to see if she was telling the truth. He smiled and stepped aside to leave them some privacy.
Mirko came to check how Elena was doing. Of course, he kept his distance. He knows how dangerous it could get for him... a stranger. "Will she be okay? Won't she hurt Danica?" Luka folded his arms and leaned against a tree trunk. "She deals with it very well. I am honestly surprised myself.
She even went through her first change into a werewolf. She was for a short while impulsive, but she pretty quickly figured it out. She holds it under control. I am positive she can manage it just fine. Also, I don't think Danica will be in danger and neither you. Don't worry I still will keep an eye on her."
Mirko sighed. "I am glad about that, but I have good and bad news for you. I had a chat with Danica and told her the reason we were chasing after Demyan... The good news is that I know the name and whereabouts of the flower... the bad is the flower is on the other side of the world."
That shocked Luka. "How the heck will we reach it then?" Mirko combed through his hair with his fingers. "I don't know, maybe we could take that metal bird. How do they call it? ... Oh right, with a plane. But still, we have to find Demyan and restore his memories..."
Demyan fell to his knees into the cold snow. He was wounded and also exhausted. Angelika didn't want to let him rest. They still had a long way to escape. She hoped she would reach a point, where she would meet her henchmen.
She paid for this trip into another world with parts of her soul to snatch Demyan away from Petrona... shortening her lifespan. There is no other way only to return with him as her husband.
Yan began to questioning her intentions of helping him and also ditching her friends like that... "Why do you insist on me to flee away?" Angelika turned to him stuttering. "W-what are you t-talking about? I am here to h-help you... You saw that monster..." She was behaving suspiciously.
A roar echoed through the forest. Angelika got again into her panic mode, grabbed Demyan by his arm, and dragged him along. In the distance, she finally spotted some lights of cars. Her men! There they were!
A sudden rustling behind them made her blood run cold. She speeded even more and her men began to point their guns in their direction. She knew what that meant. "HURRY UP!" She made Demyan and herself fall to the ground to avoid any ammunition.
Yan covered his head while the bullets were whistling around them. Angelika regained her sanity, patted Demyan on his shoulder, and pointed towards the cars. They were crawling all the way to them and then just jumped inside. Yan looked out of the window just to catch a glimpse of two werewolf-like creatures. He was petrified and glad he could escape.
Luka was frustrated he couldn't reach Demyan on time. Elena turned back and asked him for the next step. They had to return to the cabin to reunite with Mirko and Danica and hatch a new plan.
Yan somehow fell asleep inside the car. It was exhausting for him to be actively hunted like that. Angelika was watching him and dreaming about her future back in the Lush Lands with the union of the Vampire King. She will become the Human/Vampire Queen. Everything that she dreamed of will come true!
Yan had a dream... Ash brown hair... Hazel eyes... A hill with glowing butterflies... Lanterns floating around in the sky... that smile... that kiss...
He abruptly woke up. Was that a dream or a real memory? Bewildered, he looked around himself. He felt that this was all wrong, that he was in danger despite knowing Angelika for a long time and her also being his coworker, but...
Angelika placed her hand on his shoulder to calm him down. Instead of comfort, he felt how his hair began to stand up and a chill ran down his spine. Silently he looked at the two stranger men who were also armed. Angelika was very shady and she knew something that he didn't. But what could he do right now?
He was trapped. He had to come up with something. Meanwhile, for now... "I am fine, just had a bad... dream. I will be fine. This whole night was very hard on me. I need some time to process all of this."
Angelika smiled at him and made herself comfortable in her seat. He will ask them to stop at a nearby gas station and then he will disappear. He can't stay with them. This feels too dangerous.
After the car stopped, Yan excused himself for a while. He entered the building and then went straight to the toilet. To his luck, there was a window big enough for escaping. He crawled over and made his way into the dark shade of the trees.
What he didn't expect was, that someone was already waiting there for him...
