Chapter 10:

Uninvited Guest

My Other Half

For a second he was staring into her soul with his menacingly glowing eyes squeezing her shoulders and then he just pushed her aside and walked away. It was a close call. That scent made his mind go blank and he almost hugged her on impulse.

That girl was left scared by not only the jackal, but also him. Ivaylo continued shadowing her every day after work. He knew only some of the info from the cops, for example, that she had been living somewhere in this area, since she got involved with him.

He stopped bar hopping for that time and also slept through the night, which was almost impossible before. He did that with the help of that scarf on his face night after night... but it began to lose her scent, which frustrated Ivaylo. It started to smell like him and he disliked that.

His obsession literally drove him nuts. Why was he behaving like this... because of a human female? He wished she would be another one of his own kin, a human was unacceptable... just WHY?!

When that scent completely faded away, his inner struggles and insomnia returned. He got back to his cold irritated self. Even growled at work at one coworker because he didn't do the task right on time, which he shared with Ivaylo and he had to complete it at a fast pace one hour before the time limit.

Ivaylo chose that day not to stalk that human girl like usual. He rather took a walk around the neighborhood of the Outskirts. He retraced his old strolling and ended up at the same bench as before and sat down looking back at that cozy apartment that irritated him before because he felt jealous.

His eyes widened in disbelief and an ironic grin appeared on his lips. There, in the huge window, a young human female appeared. It was "HIS" human girl. She sat down at that cozy sitting space on the window to crochet something, unaware of someone watching her closely. At least now he knew, where she lived. Gods are playing cruel pranks on him.

Ivaylo rather left, walking down the street. The weather still kept that sad, rainy autumn atmosphere. Aimesly, with his hood on the head and hands in the pockets, he was strolling around.  The squeaking sound of the car tires in water interrupted him from time to time but mostly he heard only the water drops falling into the puddles that built up in random places around the pathway and road.

He could smell petrichor around him, especially near where the trees were planted. He was getting cold and chose to park his tail in the bar with the Doberman owner. That Beastguy tried to involve him in a conversation, but our depressed Ivaylo was just staring holes into his drinks and finishing one by one getting pretty drunk.

Late at night, like 10 p.m. he left the bar. It was still raining and he was annoyed and his nerves were on fire. Ivaylo should try to calm down. RIGHT! He pulled the scarf out of his jacket, but as he tried to smell it... he got angry. It no longer bore the scent of that girl.

Even I don't know, how he ended up in front of her apartment standing and staring at that window. His eyes slowly lowered down at the door that led into the residential building and he tried to open it. Successfully, he went up the stairs and without hesitation knocked on her door.

Innocently, the girl opened and raised her eyes up to meet his. Ivaylo stood there, hands in his pockets glaring her down with his turquoise glow. She froze out of fear and Ivaylo, who was drunken beyond belief, pressed against the door pushing her with them, and entered.

She began to shiver. She felt, like she would be in danger right now and regretted opening the door. Ivaylo pushed the scarf into her hands. Baffled she looked at it, did he come to return it to her? Ivaylo continued and passed the entrance, taking off his shoes one by one and then crossing the threshold to the living room.

What should she do now? How can she get rid of a drunk Beastman? He reeked from alcohol, she smelled it strongly. She hung the scarf on the hanger next to the door and followed him contemplating in her head, what to say and how to convince him to leave. What was most important she didn't want to upset him.

Ivaylo looked around the small apartment. As he entered, he saw that cozy sitting area across from him, it looked even cozier in person. In front of him stood on the left a long TV table with a TV on it and directly opposite a kotatsu table with all the cushions emitting warmth. It was probably turned on ready to be used.

Behind that, was the door, probably to her bedroom. When he turned slightly right there was the kitchen. His ears twitched after the sound of a pot bubbling on the stove with a pleasant smell of something yummy cooking at that exact moment. Another door hiding behind a wall slightly opened revealing the bathroom.

"I... I am thankful to you for returning my scarf and I wish to talk to you more... but it is already a little bit too late, so..." Ivaylo ignored her and just sat down near the kotatsu still turning around. With his elbows, he leaned on the table and hung his head back with a heavy sigh. She stopped and observed him.

Ivaylo's head fell to the front suddenly. That startled the young girl and she slowly approached him closer with caution. He didn't move and she tilted her head to the side to take a better look. He slumped to the ground. She jumped towards him.

Just now, she realized, he was soaking wet and his face wasn't red from alcohol but that Beastguy ran a fever. Without hesitation, she darted to the entrance hall, grabbed her jacket with the handbag, and disappeared to the small store next to her home.
