Chapter 112:
Spice of Life
Masaru glared at Rika as she sat at one of the arcade machines. "What? I'm on break," Rika shrugged.
"You shouldn't be exerting yourself though," Masaru glared.
"I barely am."
"But you're moving your fingers around frantically."
"Uh, that's just normal gaming. Have you never played a video game before?"
"Never."
Rika blinked for a few seconds before sitting Masaru down in the arcade next to her.
"Huh!? Rika, what are you doing!?" Masaru protested.
"Relax, you're on break, now I'm gonna teach you how to game," Rika grinned.
"I don't want to-"
"Just put the coins in, now get ready to fight."
The arcade machines Rika and Masaru were seated at hosted a fighting game. Rika had played the game beforehand and was naturally good at it. Masaru however had never touched a gaming console of any kind before today.
"Come on, just mash buttons if you don't know what to do," Rika grinned as she pummeled Masaru in-game.
"RI- RI- RIKA!? I CAN'T KEEP UP! WHY AM I WATCHING YOU KILL SOMEONE!?" Masaru cried.
"Uh, that's your character and you're getting beat up because you aren't pressing any buttons."
"ME!? That looks nothing like me!"
"Well yeah, because it's a game character, though some games let you customize your appearance. Well anyway, try and make a comeback in round 2," Rika shrugged as she won the round.
"Wait, I thought you killed that man, why is he alive and just fine!?" Masaru cried.
"Uh, because he's a video game character and it's a new round. Here, why don't I show you how to play," Rika grinned as she took command of Masaru's arcade. "See, if you input this sequence, you can perform a super move. Oh, guess I should so you the basics first. Here's jump, duck, punch, and dodge."
"Rika, I don't want to learn the ways of an assassin," Masaru glared.
"I'm teaching you the ways of a gamer."
"G- GAMER!?"
"Seriously, how sheltered were you to not know about video games? Heck, there are plenty of cooking video games out there."
"Cooking video games?"
"Yeah, I think there's even some food themed ones here," Rika grinned as she began dragging Masaru around the arcade.
"Huh, but what about the ones-"
"Oh, you wanna finish the fighting game? Sorry about that, well let's resume and then I'll show you the cooking games," Rika grinned as she sat back down at the fighting game arcade. Within a few seconds, Rika had won the match. "Alright, time for the cooking games," Rika grinned.
Rika dragged Masaru around until she found what she was looking for.
"A game where you prepare meals? Rika, this looks to be highly inaccurate," Masaru glared as he watched Rika play.
"I mean, it's a game so it's not going to be completely realistic," Rika shrugged.
"Everything about this upsets me! The inaccuracies, the unappealing look of the food, the-"
"You know this game features Goran Randy too."
"G- GORMAN RANDY!? No, are they insulting his legacy too!?"
"Uh, he agreed to be featured in the game."
"WHY!? G- Gorman Randy would never-"
"Hey look, there he is, wanna take a shot at beating him?" Rika smirked as Gorman Randy appeared in game.
"W- What have they done to him? He looks like a small child with a lopsided head," Masaru trembled.
"That's because the game uses a chibi art-style for the characters. Ugh, maybe teaching you about video games is gonna be harder than I thought."
...
An exhausted Masaru trudged into the kitchen once his break was over.
"Why do you look so overwhelmed?" Itsuki asked.
"Video games," Masaru groaned before quickly regaining his composure and heading over to his cooking station.
"Guess there really is some magic in the kitchen. Wonder if it will heal me up faster," Rika grinned as she entered.
"So you were gaming with Masaru?" Matcha glared.
"Yeah, but he sucked at it and complained about the cooking game."
"It was inaccurate and insulting," Masaru retorted.
"He clearly doesn't sound like he enjoyed gaming," Matcha glared.
"I can sympathize. Video games are quite scary. They have flashing lights, loud sounds, and scary imagery," Itsuki shuddered.
"So you don't like playing video games either?"
"No, more like I've never actually played one-"
Rika's eyes glinted as she immediately grabbed Itsuki's arm. "In that case, why don't I teach you the ways of the gamer," Rika grinned as she began dragging Itsuki out.
"Wait, no! Matcha, help me!" Itsuki cried.
"Ugh, guess I'll be taking a break now," Matcha groaned.
...
Matcha glared as she stared at the spectacle before her.
"EAT THIS YOU GHOULISH GARGOYLES!" Itsuki laughed as she sat at an arcade machine.
"She... really got into it," Rika nervously chuckled.
"If this affects her work, you're getting the blame. Oh, and her break ends in 10 minutes so make sure to bring her back by then," Matcha glared as she headed back down to the kitchen.
...
"Just one more game!" Itsuki cried as Rika struggled to drag her away.
"When you go on break again," Rika sighed.
Once she had dragged Itsuki back to the kitchen, Rika returned to the arcade and gazed at the high score. "Geh! Looks like I've unleashed a terror upon the gaming world. Hmm, wonder if that's actually a world record," she thought.
