Chapter 2:

Judgement

Psychomancer: Reincarnated as a Madness Sorcerer in Another World

If my parents were still alive, what would they think of me? I wondered as I was escorted to my seat. I looked at Nile, who was hunched over on his seat, staring blankly at the floor.

It was the second day of the trial.

Yesterday's trial ended on a sour note for us as the witness was well-prepared for his testimony. Yule is one of the best, after all. No matter how much Nile tried to press him, the witness never contradicted his statements. This pointless cross-examination, followed by the immediate adjournment of the court, was the conclusion of yesterday's trial.

Nile had explained today's plan to me a few hours ago, but it didn't look like anything would work at this point. We had to use the last resort plan he previously came up with. There was no other choice.

Knowing deep down that nothing could be done, I glanced up at the judge as he began to talk.

"Court is in session for the second day trial of Mr. Oni Yanzo," he said in a tired voice. "The prosecution may deliver his opening statement."

Yule got up from his seat, looking more confident than ever. From the look on his face, he looked like he had found out something that would win him the case. My heart started to beat faster as I grabbed a water bottle lying in front of me. Taking a sip from it, I waited in despair for the words that would win him the case.

Before he spoke, I noticed that for some reason Sakura's parents weren't present.

"Your honor, following yesterday's trial, the investigation for this case has uncovered a crucial detail we had overlooked, one that might totally change our understanding of this case. See, this isn't just a simple murder, an act of psychopathy or whatever reason the murderer has for killing a random person. But this case is different. Recent evidence has uncovered that the victim Ms. Sakura is not in fact a random person, but someone Oni knew before the murder, which means there could be a possible motive," declared Yule, knowing he had hammered the last nail in my coffin.

He was right. I knew Sakura, and dare I say I knew her well.

She was the first person I had truly loved.

I tried to remember the time I spent with her, but my brain had locked up these memories deep down, throwing away the key. I was protecting myself from a truth I couldn't face.

How pathetic.

We lost the case that day, the judge sentencing me to death for the crime of brutally murdering an innocent underage girl with the motive of love failure and possible sexual assault attempt, something that Yule had somehow proved even if it wasn't true.

It was over. This was the end of my life. I was going to be executed. If we let this man live, who knows what he'll do to another girl? Yule had said.

I'm sorry, mom and dad.

As I was being escorted out of the court, I made eye contact with Nile, who nodded at me.

Wait. It isn't over yet, there's one more thing left to do. The last resort.

I screamed at the top of my lungs before attacking the officer who was escorting me out of court.
