Chapter 2:

I saw someone recently.

Are you serious?

It was in a dream.

Of course it was.

They asked something.

Go on, then.

Are you you yet?

Is it supposed to mean something?

Hey. Who knows?

Anything cool happen in the dream?

No, it wasn’t a good dream.

You don’t have to say if you don’t want to.

No, I’ll tell. There was a house... It was yellow like a rubber duck, and it was melting. A young boy—must’ve been 12—approached it. When he got closer, the house melted faster. I knew and felt everything he did, so I knew how much this scared the boy. He was shivering (in fear). It wasn’t warm or cold in the dream though. But this house seemed like it was going away somewhere (melting away). If it melted for good, he’d never get to visit it again. I say that, as in the boy felt like he had visited it before. A familiar feeling, this nice warmth, filled the boy. He reached for the door, but it was locked. But someone else was inside, and somehow the boy could sense that someone else was inside, and this person…

Get on with it.

This person looked identical to the boy. And he asked him that.

Are you you yet?

Wonder if I’m telling myself something.

Did the boy respond?

He just stood there. Then I woke up.

Guess you got to see some people other than me. It’s so quiet right now with just the two of us. The town is.

Maybe it wasn’t that bad of a dream then? Whoever they were, even if they were part of a dream, you’re right, I got to see someone.

The town really is quiet.

Hey.

Yeah?

How do we know if we’re us?
