Chapter 14:

Mercenary loved the Prince

The broken bond

The Brum'e Harbor was brimming with life with the street and laughter could be heard miles away. The boats docked near the port was awaiting for their owners to venture into new places to discover new cultures. The air was thick with salt scent, a constant reminder of the untamed sea. In the day  customers and traders haggled, sailors unloading and loading goods. In the nights, outlaws and criminals roam free. In this transition, the harbor seamlessly shifted from a bustling marketplace to a haven of clandestine meetings.

At the corner of the street the Fluxter Bar, emerged as the heart of the night. Its lanterns cast a warm, flickering light, creating an intimate ambiance. It  was known as a haven for outlaws and a meeting ground for mercenaries, pulsated with a unique energy. Quinn, the famous mercenary sat with her collogues at the dimly lit corner of the bar, amidst the haze of laughter and clinking glasses, a playful aura radiated from her presence. She moved with an effortless blend of confidence and charm, her eyes sparkling with mischief as she engaged in banter with fellow patrons. At the bar, she leaned casually, effortlessly blending with the eclectic crowd of outlaws and sailors. A dagger, adorned with intricate engravings, peeked from a sheath strapped to her side, a subtle reminder of her proficiency in the art of combat.

The door of the Fluxter Bar creaked open revealing a hooded figure. All eyes turn towards the newcomer as he made way towards Quinn table.

" You seemed to be having fun, Quinn," commented Rehan as he unhooded himself and sat infornt of her. Quinn shooed way every other patrons at her table so that they can talk business. Quinn knew why Rehan came to dim lighted bar . She was overwhelmed with anxiety and fear of what Rehan might say next as  her last mission  failed when Tadashi made an appeared at the court.

While thinking her hair fell on her face. Rehan extended her arms to move her light blonde her from her face and tucked it behind her ears. Quinn blushed as she pushed his hand away. Despite knowing that he would never love her as much she liked him, Quinn was always attracted to Rehan alluring presence. They way he conducted himself with posture and gentle, contrary to the rowdy men she was surrounded all the time. He didn't have to brag about his achievements' as it speaks for itself.

Rehan didn't mind his hand was pushed away. " You had one job. To take care of the little eyesore," Rehan made his disappointment known. " I hired you because you are the best in your job. How can you be so useless," his words perched Quinn's heart. "Your brother was good as gone when I made him wear the gloom bracelet. I am pretty sure he was half dead when I left him shrieking near the Lexdon forest," she managed to convey without choking in her tears.

"Sorry Quinn. It's just hard to know that when you work so hard for the kingdom but they always look to replace you with someone just because they are bonded with a spirit," Rehan eyes showed his frustration and sorrow. Quinn held his hand showing her support and she will be there no matter what.

"Rehan, I give you my words. The dirty halfblood is dead at the dawn of the Sunfestival and the next day is  your coronation," she pledged to him. Rehan knew she was a person of her words. They ordered food and ate quietly enjoying each others company.
