Chapter 23:

Look who's back

My Weird Internship

With just one day remaining before the test weekend, the stress in the Wood Carving Technique class was building up within the villa. The normally boisterous living room seemed eerily still as everyone busied themselves getting ready and attempted to go over the lessons they had learned.

With a loud crash, the Villa's door opened as the sun descended. When the mystery man in black robes entered the room, all eyes were fixed on him. It was Mr. Pope, the mysterious chaperone who had vanished from sight.

"Good afternoon, guys! How was your day" greeted Mr. Pope with his mysterious smile.

His entrance was welcomed by puzzled faces. "What's wrong with him coming back?" Maya whispered to Zane as she put down her book and sat on the couch.

"I don't know, maybe he'll nag."

Rudy narrowed his eyes, ever doubtful. "Are you certain that Mr. Pop is here? Not an NPC in disguise?"

Mr. Pope had the impression of reading their thoughts. "I promise you that I am entirely authentic. I'm your dashing gofer. This privilege is exclusive to guides." He used a little magic, ignited a fire in his hand, and extinguished it with a single motion.

The class had soon assembled in the living room as all of them. Mike questioned, "Why are you back, Mr. Pop?" as he folded his arms across his chest and had a serious look.

Mr. Pope grinned once more. "As you are aware, tomorrow is D-day, so I returned to provide you with some details regarding the exam that day. Guys, this isn't just an ordinary exam. This test will evaluate your current level of knowledge and proficiency."

Ryo replied, "Hmmm, let me guess, it must be the same rules as the regular exam?"

Mr. Pope gave him a harsh look. "No, this exam makes a difference, it will be decisive. The outcome will have an impact on your travels within your country. You know what happens if you exceed the minimal standard score."

Everyone remained silent.

"So far you guys have been living in a developing country for a long time. Now, can you guys imagine if you live in a developed country, it will be very exciting, right?"

They stared at each other, looking for answers in each other's eyes. Mr. Pope said, "The rules are straightforward. Answer the questions honestly because I dislike naughty children lol, and approach each task with a calm demeanor. This exam will determine whether you met the standard score."

After clarifying all of the restrictions, Mr. Pope turned and left. But then, in a serious tone, he remarked, "Remember, your every decision and deed will determine your fate here. Be prepared, and may good fortune constantly guide your steps. Ciao, see ya guys."

Mr. Pope then exited the Villa, leaving the students in silence. It was the day before the exam, and anxiety and questions hung in the air.

"That man was gone again, do the other classes receive this kind of guide? He didn't even allow us to ask questions." Rudy snapped with a grin.
