Chapter 5:

Past Vengeance

Arrow of Freedom

The shore of Deva, a place where names whispered by the waves promised moments of respite on the sun-kissed sands, welcomed Aiger and his party. The salty breeze carried tales of distant lands as the group dispersed, finding their corners of solace amidst the festive atmosphere.

Aiger and Maria, choosing the bustling Central Square, felt the heart of the Shore’s activity. Laughter and the gentle lapping of waves filled the air as merchants peddled their wares, and musicians provided a melodic backdrop.

However, tranquility shattered when Aiger’s heightened senses detected an unsettling ripple. He rushed towards its source, Maria following in a state of shock. Leaping onto a sturdy tree branch, they witnessed a grim scene below – Zeolums Kingdom knights mercilessly attacking civilians.

Aiger notched three arrows, releasing them swiftly to halt the soldiers in their cruel acts. Maria, landing beside him, revealed her hidden sword, ready for the confrontation. A group of knights, led by Captain Roderick, an unwelcome figure from Aiger’s past, remained.

As Aiger’s arrows found their marks, Maria sprang into action, engaging in a whirlwind of combat. Each calculated strike became a dance of lethal elegance. In the chaos, Maria’s mind flickered to a distant memory, a moment when her village faced the wrath of Zeolums knights led by Captain Roderick.

This isn’t the first time I’ve seen the innocent suffer, Maria thought, parrying a knight’s blow with finesse. But this time, I won’t stand by.

A flashback revealed a younger Maria watching helplessly as her home burned. The memory fueled her fury as she fought. The golden Aura, manifesting her resolve, enveloped her like a protective cloak.

As Maria fought on the frontline, her blade danced with deadly grace, each strike a testament to her skill and determination. The clash of steel echoed through the air as she parried blows with fluid agility, her golden Aura flickering with each movement.

Aiger, positioned behind her, provided support with his bow, his arrows finding their marks with unerring accuracy. He remained vigilant, his eyes scanning the battlefield for any sign of danger as he provided covering fire for Maria.

Meanwhile, Captain Roderick, a towering figure clad in imposing armor, stepped forward with a sinister grin. “Ah, Maria,” he sneered, his voice dripping with malice. “I see you’ve grown since our last encounter. Pity it won’t be enough to save you.”

Maria’s grip tightened on her sword as she locked eyes with her adversary. “You’ll pay for what you’ve done,” she spat, her voice laced with defiance.

Roderick chuckled darkly, raising his weapon in challenge. “We’ll see about that, my dear. But I assure you, your efforts are futile. The Zeolums Kingdom will reign supreme, and no amount of resistance will change that.”

With a roar of defiance, Maria launched herself at Roderick, their swords meeting in a shower of sparks. Each blow was met with equal ferocity, the two adversaries locked in a deadly dance of blades.

Aiger continued to provide support from a distance, his arrows finding their marks with deadly precision. But Roderick, undeterred by the onslaught, pressed his advantage, his attacks growing more relentless with each passing moment.

Despite the odds stacked against her, Maria fought on, her determination unwavering. With each strike, she drew upon the strength of her Aura, pushing herself to new heights of prowess. But Roderick, a formidable opponent in his own right, matched her blow for blow, his skill and experience proving to be a formidable challenge.

As the battle raged on, Aiger’s resolve hardened. With a renewed sense of purpose, he redoubled his efforts, his arrows finding their marks with lethal accuracy. With each well-aimed shot, he whittled away at the enemy’s numbers, providing Maria with the opportunity she needed to press her advantage.

But Roderick, sensing the tide of battle turning against him, refused to relent. With a fierce roar, he unleashed a barrage of attacks, his sword a blur of motion as he sought to overwhelm his opponent.

Maria, undaunted by the onslaught, met each blow with steely resolve. With a final, decisive strike, she lunged forward, her sword finding its mark with unerring accuracy. With a triumphant cry, she watched as Roderick stumbled backward, defeated at last.

As the dust settled and the sounds of battle faded, Maria stood victorious, her golden Aura flickering with fading light. Beside her, Aiger lowered his bow, a sense of satisfaction washing over him. Together, they had emerged victorious, their bond stronger than ever as they faced the challenges that lay ahead.
