Chapter 4:

Grandfather Dead

RedCrusader

"The old man gently took the injured boy into his care to treat his wounds. When Shin woke up in the morning and saw the old man, he asked, 'What happened to you? When I first saw you, you were covered in blood.'

Shin replied, 'I am a prince from a small kingdom called Veron. Bandits attacked my kingdom, and my parents were killed in the attack.' At that moment, an old woman entered through the door; she was the wife of the old man."

"The old man's voice carried warmth as he assured the boy, 'This house will be your home, and I'll look after you.' However, the old woman bristled at the suggestion, sparking a heated debate between her and the old man over Shin's fate. In a decisive moment, the old man clasped Shin's hand firmly and whisked him away, leaving the old woman speechless in the doorway

"They returned home, and as the days passed, a bond formed between the old man and the boy, Shin. However, the old woman harbored a deep-seated dislike for Shin. One fateful day, consumed by ambition and jealousy, she devised a cunning plan. Sneaking into the king's banquet hall, she obtained Shin's blood sample, knowing his royal lineage could bring wealth and resources to their family from the imperial palace.

As time marched on, the old man's health deteriorated rapidly, his days numbered. Despite being a skilled healer, he was powerless to save himself. Meanwhile, Shin ventured into the treacherous mountains to gather herbs for the old man's medicine. Amidst a fierce storm, with thunder booming overhead, Shin's determination was tested as he navigated the rugged terrain. A lightning strike narrowly missed him, toppling a tree that blocked his path. Undeterred, Shin pressed on, risking life and limb to procure the herbs needed to save his grandfather.

But fate was cruel. By the time Shin returned home, exhausted and covered in mud, it was too late; the old man had passed away. Heartbroken, Shin wept through the night, mourning the loss of the only family he had ever known.

At dawn, the callous old woman wasted no time in shifting blame onto Shin, demanding he take responsibility for her husband's death. Her greed knew no bounds, and she saw Shin merely as a means to maintain her newfound wealth and status. Despite his grief, Shin obediently toiled away, his every effort met with disdain from the selfish old woman.

Yet, amidst the hardship, Shin found solace in memories of his grandfather and the lessons he had imparted. Determined to honor his legacy, Shin persevered, unaware of the tangled web of deceit and betrayal that awaited him. Little did he know, his journey was far from over, and the challenges ahead would test his courage and resilience in ways he could never have imagined."As Grandmother ventured to the well to fetch water for the evening meal, a misstep sent her tumbling into the abyss. Her head collided with the stone walls, echoing a tragic finality. In that fleeting moment, the tranquil routine shattered, leaving behind a haunting silence as her life slipped away into the depths below.
