Chapter 3:

The Airpack

Rueda the Witch

I put on the Airpack and it's surprisingly light despite there being a lot of science gubbins inside it.

"Oh wait, let me attach these sensors first." She's attaching these circle things all over my body and the bag that I think I look like a person made of coins. "If there is any problem turn off the force and land slowly."

I take a deep breath and press the force toggle.

I immediately launched into the sky at such an insane speed that I could barely breathe. I try to turn off the force in panic but I can't figure out where the fuck is this button like I swear to god where it is?!

I start slapping the harness to try to press the button until finally, it stops. The flap also opens because I accidentally press the flap toggle too I think? after I turn off the force it's somewhat relaxing to glide around in the sky just like a bird, well until the speed starts to get uncomfortable.

I have zero control of this junk's speed, I spin around trying to make my landing as flat as possible but I just keep going faster and faster!

Fuck it, I take off the Airpack and try to make my landing as soft as possible with my magic!

I focus on making my body float to reduce the speed at which I'm falling, and it's working! I'm slowing bit by bit until I can float for a little bit and land on the ground only experiencing a slight trauma and exhaustion.

"Rueda! Are you okay?!" Anne shouted and ran towards me.

"I have zero control of the speed of that thing! If I wasn't a witch I'd turn into a meat mush right now!"

She's relieved, "At least you survived, and thank you for the feedback." and then said that like it was nothing.

"I want a bonus from you almost killing me."

"What do you want?"

"A fancy dinner buffet."

"Sure, but why a dinner?"

I faint from exhaustion.

I wake up in this room, I guess it's her guest bedroom or something like that, my body feels heavy, like I just slept for a year. This bed is very comfortable, much better than what I slept in the military, because who cares about comfort there? not losing your limbs was considered lucky back then if you were not talented like me.

If I wasn't the one who was testing that death machine, the tester would most likely be dead.

Someone enters the room, it's Anne with food, "my husband made you a porridge to give you some energy, do you want me to feed you or you can do it yourself?"

"I can barely move my body."

She starts feeding me, "Here, open your mouth."

I open my mouth just like a baby, I never felt more weak than right now, which now I just realized is kind of crazy.

"Why are you so adorable right now, even though you're a cold-blooded killer?"

It sounds embarrassing when she puts it that way, "What the hell are you talking about? Anyway, I feel better now so I can do it myself."

"Okay then, meet us in the living room if you're ready for dinner."

I'll just eat a little bit more of this porridge to not make myself full before the big dinner, that would be a waste.

A few scoops later, and that's enough. I stand up and it feels pretty good.

I put on my hat that's been on the bedside table, and I just realized that there is a mirror just beside it.

I look in the mirror and am I cute? I don't know what people think of cute anymore, that green eyes of mine look kinda pretty though.

I walk to the living room and there is only Anne there staring at her notes, "I'm ready." I say.

She's still staring at her notes and says "Daniel is in the carriage, I'll be there soon."

I walk to her and grab the notes from her, "You can do it later."

She sighs, "Alright."

We enter the horse carriage, this is fancy, I feel like a royal right now, without the burden of taking care of an entire nation and the chance of getting assassinated by freaks.

"Do you always ride these?" I ask them.

"No, I never go outside and Daniel usually rides a horse if he needs something in the city," Anne answers.

"Wait, his name is Daniel? why did no one tell me?" Seriously, I don't know his name all this time. "Well, whatever, thank you for the porridge earlier, it's good."

"No worries, the least I can do after she almost killed you, haha." He answers jokingly.

"Speaking of almost killing you, how did you do that? I saw the data where you slow down before touching the ground." Anne asks me.

"I try to make my body float."

"I thought witches can only fly with their broom."

"We can fly without anything, but it uses so much energy, that's why I fainted after that."

"Tell me more."

"So witches use objects to focus our magic and make it more efficient. Like, we use wands to concentrate our magic on the tip of the wand and make it more effective even though it reduces the area, and another one is the broom where we focus our magic on the brush to push us from behind only."

"Why not use a finger instead of a wand?"

"The tip is bigger, so less efficient."

"Interesting, if I were to find a way to make it more efficient, would you like to test it?"

"Maybe, as long as it doesn't kill me."

"I can't guarantee that."

Then we kept chatting for over an hour until we got to the restaurant, we talked about how Anne and Daniel met, they met at the academy and Anne took a liking to Daniel because he didn't mind being Anne's test subject, and then her inventions like the printing press.

We're at the restaurant, this is some rich people stuff that I never experienced. At the entrance, someone greets and escorts us to our table, and then gives us a glass of wine. It smells good, much better than the junk beers we got in the military.

Not long after, servants bring us foods from whole roasted chicken, whole pig, lots of steaks, and a plethora of fruits to choose from, not to mention these foods smell amazing, they probably use expensive spices from the east.

I can't hold myself and start munching on everything that I see, and my energy is now at the highest state that it's ever been. They are all so delicious and I can't stop eating them even if I try to.

The only thing that stopped me was my belly, it's bloated like I'm pregnant right now. There is still so much food left but my body can't take it anymore, it's too much.

"Satisfied yet?" Anne asks.

"No, but my body disagrees."

Anne pulls my hand, "Let's go home."

She drags me to the carriage, and in the entire trip, I only stare at the sky because I can't move anymore.

After that, I immediately go to my room and sleep again.
