Chapter 8:

Big City

Hearts Beyond Horizons

“Ryutane-kun! Lilac is gone!”

My eyes shot up, instinctively realizing that I had overslept.

“Wait, did you see where she went?” I asked.

Izusaki nodded no, pushing my fears overboard. I was also shocked to see where the train stopped.

It looked to be around a big city. I’ll be honest when I say that I’ve never travelled anywhere outside of where I lived. How was I possibly going to find Lilac now, knowing she was missing in a place I haven’t been to before?

That is when Izusaki patted me on the shoulder and pointed towards the sky.

“Ryutane-kun, it was raining just yesterday and there are a lot of puddles. Maybe Lilac made footprints. We could find your dog if we follow the tracks it left.”

What I was hearing didn’t sound like a bad idea. The question was, where do we start looking? The train was around a lot of other trains and the ground was filled with so many tiny rocks everywhere. I remember my father showing me one of these places before though. They are called rail yards.

We snuck out of the cart we were in before running into a nearby station up ahead. We climbed up one of the station’s ladders to check our surroundings.

Fortunately, no one was there.

After we entered through an open door and went upstairs, our view of everything changed.
