Chapter 53:

Bio Father

My Other Half

Kay heard from Marsh about the blood bath Ivaylo pulled a while ago. He didn't expect to see it with his own eyes. This was a completely different side of Ivaylo, that Kay hoped not to get to know. It was a very heartbreaking sight.

Paetyn, after witnessing Ivaylo's misery once more, her instincts kicked in, overpowering her fear, and together with Kay ran up to Ivaylo. The shocked wolf scrambled for his damaged mask, which represented his split feelings about himself, the world, and the fresh news about Paetyn.

He was reaching for the mask to hide his "hideous humanoid" face, but Paetyn pulled him by the arm towards her. Ivaylo slowly sat up on his bed, hiding his face behind the bloodied hand. "Please, you need to leave. You can't see my face nor see me like this..."

Kay grabbed the mask and handed it over to Ivaylo. Paetyn, with tearful eyes, pulled his hand from his face and their eyes met. Once again, Paetyn fully embraced Ivaylo's humanoid face, taking it in between her palms and placing a kiss on his downturned lips.

A flood of emotions began to fill up his chest. Too much time had passed, but he still remembered the tender warmth of her touch and that close-up scent... Kay was observing the whole thing, lowering his arm with the mask in sadness.

His time with Paetyn came to an end. His ears and his tail got droopy and lifeless. The sparkle in his eyes, that he had for Paetyn... went out. From the beginning, it was a losing game.

Ivaylo began to whimper while wrapping his arms around Paetyn, pulling her into his embrace and squeezing her... but gently. Paetyn took the initiative, right now, she became brave enough to finally overcome her fears.

Her mind got at ease, as she sensed Ivaylo's love and felt the warmth, about which she had almost forgotten, because of those nasty circumstances. How could she stay away from him for so long? She missed him and evidently, Ivaylo missed her as well.

A little more sober, Ivaylo with the help of Kay walked over to the bathroom, where Paetyn volunteered to help him get cleaned up. Since there was nothing she hadn't seen already, she was gladly assisting him. Ivaylo seated on the small wooden stool, with his lower parts wrapped in a towel was hunched over, with his head hanging in guilt.

He remembered the promise he gave her about these kinds of things. "I am sorry, I disappointed you. I vowed, I would never do this..." Paetyn paused her scrubbing of his arm and looked at him for a second.

Small streams of water were running in between his hair, forming droplets on the ends and falling down. That quiet plopping into thin layers of water on the floor was the only sound right now. Paetyn hugged him nuzzling his cheek with hers.

"Everything is fine, you didn't disappoint me, also I am not angry at you. There is no reason for that. You were nothing else, than supporting me the whole time. For that, I thank you and I love you!" Ivaylo slightly turned his head to hers and with his hand caressing her face, he placed a kiss on her lips.

Paetyn was fixing something for them all in the kitchen. She wanted to be more proactive, not just for herself, but for everybody, even that fetus inside of her. Kay was addressing Ivaylo's wound.

"I was horrified, as I saw you in this state. You were always so stoic, arrogant, and proud... Seeing you broken like this, made me realize, how much fragile you are too. Why did you do that, if I may ask you?"

Ivaylo glanced to make sure, Paetyn was far away and couldn't hear their conversation. "I was just trying to come to terms with her situation... with the pregnancy... the innocent fetus inside..." Ivaylo looked into Kay's eyes.

"Like you, I was already planning to create a family with her, before I found out... that it will be impossible. Now she will have her own child... but at what cost? It still nags on my consciousness. I have to make those bastards pay, for what they made her go through. I wish I could kill the Bio Father!"
Blood was boiling in Ivaylo's veins. Kay didn't say it out loud but had the same desire.

A week later, Ivaylo sat with Paetyn in his arms at the window reading books together and from time to time taking a sneak peek at the cherry trees down on the street. Kay was still keeping them company and as well keeping an eye on Paetyn.

A sense of normality was returning back to the Outskirt household. The phone rang and Kay picked it up. It was the doctor from the hospital. She had news about the DNA test they conducted to figure out the Bio Father.

Kay's mouth was left ajar. It didn't make sense. None of those filthy humans was the father. What was the meaning of this? After repeating about the news to the couple, they were left speechless.

Something popped up on Ivaylo's mind and he excused himself. With quick steps, he went out of the entrance door, his wallet clutching at his chest. The retriever bitch was nowhere to be seen in the store underneath their apartment. Kay and Ivaylo turned her life to hell, while Paetyn was recovering.

Ivaylo grabbed two pregnancy tests and returned home. Baffled Kay and Paetyn questioned his sudden disappearance. Ivaylo pushed those two packages into her hands and told her to carry on with them right away. She was tired from the constant testing and negative results, despite being pregnant, but she humored Ivaylo to give him some peace of mind.

The trio waited that needed time. Of course, negative... what? The second test was positive! Ivaylo began to laugh hysterically, which turned into an emotional crying. Both Kay and Paetyn watched him with confusion, but why was that one pregnancy test positive?
