Chapter 1:
SKERIA: The BeforeHand
CHAPTER 1
IT’S been three years since Sword, now eighteen, got the necklace from his father. He has yet to find its rightful owner and practically gave up looking for the owner. Sword’s reaching his breaking point and decided to go outside to one of his favorite spots to clear his head. He puts on his green zip-up hoodie, dark grey jeans, white shoes, grabs his sword and heads outside. One of the cool things that Clay brought back for his family was a broadsword he found. Both Sword and his brother, Broad, were enamored and took up practicing with it. Their Dad often monitored and mentored their training until Broad decided to give it up. It was never clear as to why Broad quit, but Sword kept up with the craft to this day. He’d often go into a clearing into the woods to swing around his sword and enjoyed spending time there to be alone and clear his head. Sword crosses the street from his apartment building and looks at the new restaurant that just opened in his town named ‘Aphy’s.’
I have yet to eat there. Sword thinks, Eh. Today’s not the day to change that. Sword walks behind the building following the path to the clearing in the forest. As he gets closer he notices a girl practicing in his spot. Woah what!? I didn’t know anyone even knew of this location! And is she-? Sword gets closer to see what the girl is up to but she notices him.
“Oh Hi! Sorry about that.” Sword says nervously
“Hi?” She says startled, staying cautious,
“Uh- I’m Sword, I just came here to practice my swordsmanship. I didn't know anyone else came here, much less that there’s anyone in this town who still owns a sword.” Sword says getting more relaxed.
“You startled me.” She chuckles, “Well, I was just doing some spring cleaning and found my Dads old sword. I ran into the forest just to play around with it.” She holds out a double edged broadsword similar to Swords, the sword has a red pentagon on the hilt and a golden orb at the end of the handle.
“Your Dad owned that sword?! That’s so cool! My Dad just randomly found this one.” Sword says showing off his sword, a double edged broadsword with a yellow diamond on the end of the handle. “I’ve had it for about a year or so. I come out here to swing it around and to pass the time.”
“Yeah he’s had it for a while now apparently, serves no use to him now though. However, I think it’s-”
“Really cool,” The two say in unison.
The girl looks at Sword with a smirk on his face and smiles at him. “Yeah that.” She says. “My name’s Random.” She extends her hand for Sword to shake.
Sword stares at her just long enough for it to not be uncomfortable. Random, he thinks fondly. Random was a beautiful girl. Just shorter than him, she had black hair tied in a ponytail, bangs split in the middle, a light brown skin tone, and beautiful grey eyes. She was wearing gold stud earrings, a maroon sports bra, a matching maroon skirt with a golden waistband, knee-high boots with a gold anklet on the outside of each and a gold outline following the top of each boot, she wore armbands which matched her boots up until the gold anklets. Sword clasps her hand within his, “Would you like to battle?” He blurts out. “Uhh oops- forget I said that!” He quickly retracts his and and scratches the back of his head nervously, “I just never gotten the chance to duel against someone before and I wanted to grab an opportun-”
Random laughs, cutting Sword off and saving himself from embarrassment. “Sure, we can duel. Just go easy on me, this is my first day.”
“Okay! Don’t worry I’m not too good myself.” Sword walks to the other side of the clearing and pulls out his sword. Random does the same on the opposite side, “Let’s go!” He shouts.
“Let’s go.”
