Chapter 5:

Chapter 5, part B (Chamber affairs)

Ankh Holder (Season 2) (The Reboot edition)

In the western chamber, King Narapati took pleasure from the “care” of his queen consort, Devi Nagasena.

The queen was a quick talker, fluent in words, and possessed an elegant face, adorned by makeup. Yet, she has a sharp, egoistic mind, and none of the servants find pleasure in their service. Despite being as sweet as sugarcane to her king, she treated the servants and maids of the palace rudely like slaves. The ministers saw her as a queen beautiful in appearance yet hollow in mindset with no modesty. Rumors about her spread like wildfire on the palace grounds.

Some said she was an unfaithful wife, some said she was a former prostitute, and some said she was a fishmonger. All agreed that she was not of royal blood, not even of merchant or minister blood. Nobody knew about her parents. The king met her during a donation ceremony to U Agga. She was a puppeteer at the ceremony. (Burmese rich donation ceremonies often came along with some forms of entertainment including plays, operas, and puppet shows. This tradition still exists nowadays)

For the king, she was the love at first sight. Ignoring all traditions and royal formats, the king made the random lady, Nagasena, the head queen consort. After she became the head queen, all ministers, who blocked her not to, got silent.

Every maid and minister expected this role to be given to the consort of Narapati’s brother, the former co-ruler and King of Ava. However, instead of elevating this lady to the position of head queen consort, Narapati demoted her to a low-ranking concubine. Witnessing Nagasena's rudeness towards the former queen now turned concubine, the palace maids were disgusted. The former queen, however, didn’t keep that rudeness in mind.

(Historical context: Narapati was never intended for the throne. Before he became a king, his brother, Mahathihathura, ruled the kingdom alongside the father, Ming Khaung II of Ava. They ruled as co-kings, sharing the same throne. Unfortunately, Mahathihathura passed away before his father. This led to the coronation of Narapati after the death of the father, Min Khaung II. As soon as he ascended the throne, Narapati executed the twelve-year-old son of Mahathihathura, Shwenawratha, by accusing him of the case of an assassination. One of the servants of Shwenawratha plotted to kill Narapati but failed. Narapati accused Shwenawratha that he ordered his servant to kill him and executed the young boy by drowning him to death. In monarchy burma, royal blood should not be shed during execution, so most of them got either a hard blow in the neck or got packed into a sack and drowned)

Nagasena cared nothing about the people’s disgust of her. For her security, she placed some of her companions as her personal maids. This also angered the original maids and servants again as they had to witness random people taking their titles of “maids” and “Her Majesty’s service”.

Devi Nagasena had nothing to worry about as long as she got the king’s favor. Even then, the king had drained enough after getting the “care” and “leisure” from her. Thus, before he returned to his chamber with the help of maids, Nagasena spoke,

“O, my great husband, I have heard that our master ascetic’s monastery had been burgled,”

“Yes, Devi, a vile weizza did it, he said,”

“What have the monk tell ye to do, my majesty?”

Narapati briefly summarized what U Agga said and told it to his queen. The queen said,

“What his holiness said is suitable, my dear king. I think only Master U Agga can help us with the affairs of Ava. Thinking about our kingdom’s future made my soul weary, O, My husband,”

Devi Nagasena said it in a low, sobbing tone. This saddened the king’s heart and made him say,

“Oh, don’t worry, my beloved. I will follow exactly as he said. Don’t let your pure soul weary,”

And with just these words, the king would follow exactly as he said. Then he moved from the queen’s chamber to his own. (No matter how weary they were, after making love with a queen, Burmese Kings always go back to their sleep chamber. They would never sleep in the queen’s chamber.)

After the king had left, Nagasena was left smiling on her bed. It was just a light-hearted experience and didn’t really satisfy her. She wanted more.

Thus, she opened a mysterious box, went inside, closed it, and chanted a spell. Then she opened the lid again. She wasn’t in the western chamber anymore. Instead of wooden walls, there was metal. Instead of boring lamps and torches, there was a splendid chandelier hanging from the ceiling. The room was cold despite the hot climate of Ava. In the place of a wooden bed, there stood a soft, luxurious bed. On the bed, U Agga was lying. He wasn’t wearing the robe of an ascetic monk.

“Nagasena, my maid, why didn’t ye answer quickly when I contacted you with the mind? Haven’t ye practiced psychism these days?” U Agga said to her while sitting on the bed.

Nagasena Devi made a freckled smile and said, “You blame me as soon as we meet. I am a queen. I got queenie jobs to do,” and she pushed him gently.

“Also, don’t add too much poisons. If Narapati gets mad, my plan will be ruined,” U Agga said while hugging the waist of the queen. Their lips also got closer.

“I just add a little bit of poison to his water as you told me. It was not that strong enough to lose his mind. U Agga… If your great plan has succeeded then favor me as you’ve said,”

“Oh… you, human ladies, are so talkative. I am a man of my word. My plan will success for sure. Don’t worry. Now, the key to success has come right into my hands. After that, with the power of my ancestors, I will make you the queen of all witches,”

U Agga's hands moved upwards from Nagasena’s waists. His lips almost touched her chin. Nagasena moved U Agga’s lip gently and said,

“You, always thinking about doing that. Alright then, just make me a better witch than that b*tch, Saw Nan Mon,”

After that Nagasena Devi gave her “Care” to U Agga longer than she gave to the king.

(Five hours before this,

As U Agga went outside his private chamber, he was furious to see his monastery in a mass. Most of his cyborgs were lying on the ground, and the two phantom robots were fixing them. Through the memories of his robots, he watched the case in detail. At once, he saw something from Zeya, he was unspeakably delighted)
