Chapter 102:
En Passant Grandmaster
"So who exactly are we seeing?" Zago asked as he followed Daria.
"Her real name is Safumi Bouzi, as I mentioned, she's one of the current SPCMs, though if she keeps up her recklessness, she may not last much longer," Daria sighed.
The two entered a room to find a bandaged up Safumi laying on a bed.
"The hell you showin' your mug here for," Safumi snarled.
"I came to see how you're doing. I heard you tried to ride your motorcycle even though your wrists are in such bad shape."
"Why the hell can't I?"
"Just look at yourself! All that happened because your busted wrists prevented you from handling your motorcycle properly!"
"You're soundin' like a mother. Then again, guess you are one. Well if you want me back, fix my wrists. It's your damn fault I got fucked up in the first place."
SPCM Himitsusan, aka Safumi Bouzi, had always had a foul mouth and bad attitude. However, one day, she encountered Daria and discovered she had a talent for chess, particularly speed chess. She quickly rose to become one of the fastest female chess players in the world, however, all that had come crashing down after the Michiko incident. As a result of losing a DESPER match against Michiko, she like the other SPCMs were brainwashed into aiding Michiko's plan. While she had been seemingly freed from her brainwashing, thanks to losing to Mimoko and Utami in a team 4-way chess DESPER match, her wrists had also been permanently injured as a result. This caused her not only to have trouble properly playing fast chess, but also with basic day to day activities.
When she heard the full details of what happened with Daria, she immediately lashed out at her and blamed her for her suffering. She then began abandoning her SPCM duties and begun recklessly trying to do things she was previously able to do before her wrists were injured. As a result, of trying to ride her motorcycle, she now had multiple fractured and broken bones, meaning she wouldn't be doing much for a while.
Daria stared at Safumi and sighed. "You know that's beyond my power. Even the DESPERs can't-"
"I AIN'T GIVIN' UP!"
"You're still registered with one, right?"
"Yeah, so?"
"We should focus on getting you unregistered. Who knows what might happen if the Ultima-master is beaten."
"Why should you care. I'm just a broken bitch. I can't even hold chopsticks without my hand shaking and going wack."
As a result of being brainwashed by Michiko, Safumi along with all the other brainwashed SPCMs had been forced to join the Desperado league and register with DESPERs. While the WWCF had given some leniency to them, it was only under the condition that they don't use the DESPER and try to unregister with it. Safumi however, had been desperately dragging people into DESPER battles in hopes of curing herself, and while no one had been seriously hurt or killed, it was clearly beginning to become a problem.
There was one main reasons why Safumi was unable to heal herself with the DESPER. That being the irreversible clause which prevented her punishment from ever being reversed even if she beat Michiko, the one that originally inflicted the punishment on her. To make matters worse, Desperados couldn't force each other into DESPER matches meaning even if Michiko hadn't placed an irreversible clause on Safumi, she still wouldn't be able to beat her in a DESPER match, let alone challenge her to one. However, Safumi didn't care and was dead set on rampaging until she was back to how she was before.
Daria closed her eyes and let out a sigh. "I see. Is there anyone else that could convince you to stop being reckless?"
"Why would there be? Heck, my folks probably wish I'd die so they don't have to spoon feed my ass. I guess that's what I get. Anyway, who's the kid ya brought with ya?" Safumi asked as she glanced at Zago.
"Just a stranger," Zago nodded.
"A stranger... Yeah, why would ya wanna acquaint with a broken shit like me," Safumi somberly snarled as she struggled to hold back her tears.
"Let's go," Daria nodded.
As soon as the two had left, Safumi burst into tears. "Why'd I have to be born so defective!? Every time I try to enjoy myself, my body just keeps fucking up! All these doctors can't do shit! Even if money's not an issue, they still say there's nothing they can do. Shit, I guess I'll have to try goin to that scientist then. Maybe he can make me a sturdy cyborg or somethin. Then maybe I can at least function. As soon as I get out of here, I'm headin' to that guy. Skab-whatsit was his name I think. Whatever, I say Desperado scientist, they'll take me to him."
"Ahem."
Safumi turned in shock to see Zago had returned. "Y- You didn't hear all that did ya!?"
"Yes."
Safumi went red in the face and began to cry even harder. "I CAN'T EVEN SINK MY HEAD INTO A PILLOW LIKE THIS!"
"Want me to help?"
"What? Ya gonna suffocate me with it?"
"No."
"Then why the hell are ya here!?"
"You looked so sad and lonely."
"...That's what I want. Now fuck off! I'll die of humiliation if ya stay here!"
"I-"
"I AIN'T LYIN! I GOT A DEFECTIVE BODY!"
Zago decided it was best to give her some space and left.
"He's gone. Ugh, bastard nearly gave me a heart attack. Who was he anyway. His uniform looked familiar though... AH! It was the same as that asshole's! That asshole... Now that I think about it, he was the last guy to beat me proper. Though I think there might have been a few others. Guess my memory's going too. No surprise there."
In the hall, Daria nodded as Zago approached her. "I take it her attitude towards you was much better than how it was towards me."
"That's right," Zago nodded.
"My apologies for asking something like this from you. Sadly though she's turned hostile towards me. Not like she doesn't have any right to, it is ultimately my fault she ended up like this. However, I don't want to see her spiral down any further. Damn you Michiko, was this your way of getting the last laugh? Ah, my apologies. You are free to leave. Though if possible, I would kindly request either you or one of your friends attempt to steer Safumi back onto the right path. She may not be able to return to how she once was, but at least she'll no longer be hurting herself and trying her best to make do in life."
"I'll do what I can."
"Thank you."
