Chapter 113:
En Passant Grandmaster
Okisato could only watch as Skaberghast and the 5 college girls sat down across from his clubmates.
"Now lets experiment a bit. Let's say whichever team loses gets stuck here and will be subject to whatever Svetlana feels like doing to them, which could include killing. Winners get to walk free and even get teleported directly to their desired travel destination. For us that'd be Stanford University, and you guys, London England. Though lets try and tack on some minor punishments for individual losses. I lose, no sleep for 24 hours. Yuusuke Shousen loses, hmm..."
Skaberghast thought for a moment before opting to make Yuusuke's punishment wearing diapers and being forced to go to the bathroom in them for an entire week. Yuusuke naturally exploded in anger, but that was what Skaberghast wanted.
"What kind of sick punishment is that!?" Yuusuke fumed.
"An even one. For me, going 24 hours without sleep is hellish. Now moving on to the others; Olga, you lose you strip naked."
"Professor, why are you suggesting such a degenerate punishment befall me?" Olga glared.
"Cuz I don't know enough about your opponent to know what makes him tick, same for you Mona. So all in all, the punishment for the 4 of you losing will be getting stripped naked.
"Pervert," Mona, the girl with medium length blue hair scoffed as Skaberghast continued his spiel.
"Now for the other half. Abby, you lose you gotta act like a chicken for 24 hours. If Rodeo Gorou loses, he gives you his wallet and any other valuables he's got on him."
Rodeo scowled as Abby, the girl with long orange hair smirked.
"Jackie, if you lose, hmm... Your last name's egghead so you get all your hair shaved, waxed, and lasered off. Eyebrows n' eyelashes too, and you'll need to maintain the look for a month. And Syouma Numakawa... Same thing, I guess," Skaberghast shrugged as he glanced at Numakawa.
"Hoh? So in a battle of minds the loser is to be humiliated with extreme hair removal. Very well, I shall prove my intellect before you," Numakawa gloated.
"I studied up since that loss. The nerd queen won't lose a second time," Jackie glared.
As for the remaining college girl, Maria, her punishment was identical to Jackie's and Numakawa's but with the added stipulation that her makeover would be irreversible. And for Utami...
"You lose, you quit chess forever and take up shogi for the rest of your life, and just like Maria, the punishment shall be irreversible."
That threat shook Utami to her core. "H- How is that an even punishment!?"
"Because my hair is my pride and defines my individuality. Being stripped of it and forced to live my rest of my days completely devoid of hair is a humiliation and fate worse than death for me," Maria glared as she ran her hands through her curly turquoise afro.
"So he's trying to get rid of Utami. That bastard. He must have realized she has potential and wants to cull it before it becomes an issue for the league," Okisato thought. "Utami-chan, you lose and Madman Důras will make your life hell!" he called out.
Skaberghast began to scowl. "Outside interference results in automatic loses."
"You haven't started playing yet, in fact, you still have to set the time control, yes?"
"Well aren't you observant. Normally the time control would be standard, but for this match it will be 30 minutes with no added increments. Now, we may begin."
Okisato nodded and sat down next to Yuzuha.
"Seems I'm getting left out of the fun," Yuzuha sighed.
"Are you unhappy about it?"
"Not as much as you might think. Zago-kun and Azenira-chan are rising stars. Even Gorou-kun's starting to find his stride. I'm just average."
Okisato nodded and directed his attention towards the Skaberghast vs Yuuskuke game. Skaberghast had opened the game by moving his pawn to e4 while Yuusuke followed up by moving his pawn to e5. Skaberghast then played the king's gambit by moving his pawn to f4, which Yuusuke gladly accepted by capturing said pawn with his e-pawn.
"Hook, line, and sinker," Skaberghast thought as he moved his knight to f3.
"Calm down. Okaa drilled the king's gambit and all the lines into ya. After knight f3, the best move is... G5!" Yuusuke thought as he moved his pawn to g5.
Skaberghast smiled and moved his bishop to c4 as Yuusuke advanced his pawn to g4. "Just what I wanted," he thought as he castled on the king's side.
"Guess you're a rookie. Castilin' ain't always the best move," Yuusuke snarled as he captured the knight at f3 with his g-pawn.
Skaberghast responded by capturing said pawn with his queen while Yuusuke moved his queen to f6.
"Why is he playing like that?" Yuzuha asked as Skaberghast moved his pawn to e5.
Okisato explained to her that the gambit was known as the Muzio gambit, one of the most insane gambits out there. However, the true terror of it wasn't the gambit itself but rather what it could evolve into.
"You think I can't counter a Muzio? I told ya I know the lines and if my memory's right, this here's called the Sarrat defense," Yuuske declared as he captured the pawn at e5 with his queen.
"Then how bout the DOUBLE Muzio gambit!? Skaberghast maniacally grinned as he captured the pawn at f7 with his bishop.
The move clearly rattled Yuusuke as his confidence began to waver. "Shit, I don't remember what to do! Best move is probably king captures, but what then!?" he thought as he captured the bishop at f7 with his king.
Skaberghast responded by moving his pawn to d4, which Yuusuke promptly captured with his queen.
"Guess you're in check and your gambit failed," Yuusuke nervously smirked as Skaberghast moved his bishop to e3.
Then, Yuusuke made a massive blunder and captured the pawn at b2 with his queen.
"Oh look, it's check," Skaberghast taunted as he captured the pawn at f4 with his queen.
"Shit! Well, you're gonna lose a rook. Ngh, where do I move? Knight blocking would lose my queen so I gotta move my king. E6 is mate so... E8!" Yuusuke thought as he moved his king to e8.
"Guess you only learned as far as how to defend against the standard Muzio. Well, you are still in diapers after all. Checkmate," Skaberghast sneered as he captured the bishop at f8, winning the game.
Yuusuke went pale with fear as the board before him and Skaberghast vanished.
"Now we just sit and wait until the others are done," Skaberghast snickered as he reclined in his chair.
